Hey Everyone,

Im sure you get alot of questions like this in here, I have done my best to follow the hardware/sizing guidelines, but still feel I'm falling short performance wise on reads/writes to my pools. Im hoping I can get some advice to help with my performance. Ill start with my specs:

Build FreeNAS-9.10.2-U3 (e1497f269)
Platform Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU L5640 @ 2.27GHz (in Host mode)

tv tuner with freenas

I didn't see much discussions on this and what I did see was quite old..

I have an aging HTPC that's probably 6ish years old or so now.  my FreeNas box is way more powerful and has A LOT of storage, ~12TB of storage sitting idle or so.

I have a ceton tv tuner that'll only work with windows 7 & 8 drivers.

Is there any solution here with FreeNas?  Can I install windows 7 in a jail so I can load up the drivers for my tv tuner card and then use plex to handle the rest?

Can I force import the volume or do I risk data loss?[IMG]

Replication failed emails, the sequel

I have replication set up between two FreeNAS machines running the latest 11-Stable.

Every time a replication finishes (once per day), I receive an email that says that replication failed. Looking at the replication task in the GUI, it says that it is "up to date". Looking on PULL, it appears that the replication went through. But, I would like to be 100% certain.

There are several threads/reports about this kind of thing happening. But, I don't see any solutions. Is this an unresolved...

How to install Minecraft server in a jail!

As every single one of my guides has been, I'll be doing a dummy's guide to Minecraft in a jail. I do 1 jail per program that way if I trash that one program and have to destroy the jail only 1 program gets lost. Jails use very little RAM and almost no CPU on their own, so there's no reason not to have this level of separation unless you just want "one jail to rule them all".

DISCLAIMER: The default values I will use for Minecraft are 512MB of RAM minimum and 1GB maximum. So worst case you...

Windows Server or FreeNAS for deduplication

Hi all,

I've done quite a lot of searching for this but most forum threads seem to recommend compression over deduplication, however I don't think this would work well for our requirements, so I've signed up to hopefully find out a bit more. We use NextCloud and we're looking to upgrade our storage backend, currently a Synology box. The way NextCloud stores data, specifically the previous versions of files, is by simply storing another copy of the file, that is incredibly similar to the...

System crash on SMB file copy

Hello all,

New to the forum.

I have a fresh FreeNAS box. Upgraded from my super micro to a Dell r710 with the PERC H310 HBA. Having issues with a system crash when I copy to a SMB share. It copies full on at 115MB/s then drops out to 0 then the server crashes. I have tried copying to the RAIDZ1 and copy to the 500GB Stripe as it is a different brand of drive. Same result. I have tried different files and different client machines.

I have a feeling it is a driver or a firmware issue with...

I'm running iSCSI to share multiple iSCSI targets. Since I'm new to iSCSI I'm concerned I have the LUN IDs or other settings setup incorrectly.

Here's how I'm connecting:
  • I'm running globalSAN Initiator on the connecting Mac Mini (mac-data).
  • I'm running the built-in iSCSI Initiator in Windows 2012 R2 running in Parallels VM on Mac Mini (starscream-backup)
  • I'm running the built-in iSCSI Initiator in Windows 8.1 in Parallels VM on Mac Pro (bonecrusher-data and...

I've got some badness going on. I'm hoping for some guidance for how to approach.

My box is running:

- FreeNAS-9.10.2-U3 (e1497f269)
- ASRock C2550D4I motherboard
- Updated 0.30.0 BIOS firmware to prevent the watchdog bug
- 16GB Memory (2x Crucial 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600 - PC3 12800)
- Eleven HDs in a single RAIDZ3

Last week I started getting some SMART errors and prepped disks for replacement. When I went to do the replacement of the first one today, I saw that...

[HOW-TO] How-to Boot Linux VMs using UEFI

There have been a number of threads were people have failed to boot a Linux VM after the installation phase using the webUI of FreeNAS 11 nightly, finding themselves stuck in the EFI shell and not knowing how to proceed nor how to avoid this happening each time their VM is started.

It has been sugested elsewhere that this is due a grub error, or a grubx64.efi file which is missing or in the wrong place, or you must create a startup.nsh file or change the boot order in the EFI shell.  If...

So, as I mentioned in my intro thread, I'm looking at a box that I can use for media storage, security camera storage, and as a VM box.  I use Emby, and the system needs to be able to handle 4 concurrent streams throughout the house at any one time (kids...).

Currently, I have a 42u rack in the basement, and Cat6 run throughout the house, a minimum of 2 lines in each room.  I have a 4u RSV-L4000 case with a Seasonic S12G-550W power supply just begging to be used, and 12TB of data that needs...

Win10 VM Issues.

Hey,

I have Window 10 Pro VM installed using the GUI on FreeNas 11.

Windows 10 Pro, Ram = 8GB, CPU cores = 2.

This VM has RDP, TeamViewer etc. running so I can remotely access my home network.

ISSUES

Since I installed the VM it seems to be shutdown anytime I go to access it. Usually it will stay up for about 10 hours. I can’t figure out why it is shutting down.

All the VMs on my FreeNas seem very slow. Increasing the RAM had no noticeable effect.

FreeNAS prosumer HCI build

So I recently decided it was time to retire the Dell C2100/FS12-TY build and make a new one from scratch. This is to be an HCI build (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-converged_infrastructure). I've been doing burn in for a month+ and it has been rock solid. Before I move it into production, I wanted to ask here if anyone has anything they'd like tested on a setup like this before they potentially make a similar investment/build. I can't promise I will do everything asked but I...

9.3 to 11 Upgrade with Jails & VirtualBox

Is upgrading my box from 9.3-STABLE to FreeNAS 11 really as simple as selecting the new train and clicking Manual Update? That seems way too easy, convenient, and naive.

I've got Plex, SABnzbd, Couch Potato, Sonarr, and VirtualBox (running Windows 7 and a few Window apps) all running in their own jails, and I'd want them all to work afterwards, too. Evidently FN11 replaces VirtualBox with bhyve... so that will require some tweaking, I'm sure.

What other landmines, gotchas, and surprises...
