Server read cache does not work

Ask about 32g memory, 3 12t for raidz, 7200 RPM hard disk, and copy 15g files under the 10 Gigabit network. The speed of copying to win10 is only 400MB. It seems that the memory read cache does not work, but it can reach 1g when the same file is overwritten and copied for the second time. Why does the read cache not work when copying for the first time? But write cache seems to work every time!!

S3/Minio - Cannot get it to work on SSL

Hello everyone - long time freenas user, first time poster.

I'm on 11.3 U1 ... everything working awesome, nice work!

The one issue I have found is I cannot get the S3/minio service to work with SSL. I've imported certificates, done everything I can think of but it just won't work with SSL. Works fine with non ssl.

Any insights for me ?

Help with first FreeNAS build for a medium-sized home server?

Dear all,

in the current Corona lock-down I finally find the time to start a project which I have in mind since quite a while. I would like to finally build my own FreeNAS server.

The requirements for the system are rather 'standard':
  • I want to use it mostly for backups and for storing/accessing/streaming photos and music.
  • The data should be natively encrypted.
  • 2-3 people might need to access data in parallel.
  • Due to my current flat situation the server will have to...

Unable to update/upgrade jails from 11.2 to 11.3 on FreeNAS 1.3-U1

My current system is FreeNAS 11.3-U1. While still on 11.2, I replaced my Warden jails-based plugins with iocage jails-based plugins. They all behaved as expected. After a few weeks, I decided to upgrade the 11.2 iocage jails to 11.3, and found I could not. So, I come to you asking for help getting my jails template to update or upgrade from 11.2 to 11.3. From an SSH connection I ran the "iocage fetch" command. Below is the output:

Code:
root@freenas[~]# iocage fetch

Issue with "Modified" timestamps on Windows file copy

This past weekend I migrated from a Netgear ReadyNAS system to FreeNAS. The migration went pretty smoothly, but since migrating, I have discovered an issue with the "modified" timestamp on files copied from Windows getting changed to the date/time of the copy, rather than being preserved as the date/time that the file was last changed.

Note that all of the timestamps associated with the migration to FreeNAS are correct; I'm referring to the timestamps of files that I copy from Windows to...

Hello all,

I've built up a new FreeNAS box from an ASRock Rack C3758D4I-4L board. This board has quite a few onboard SATA ports.
  • Motherboard ASRock C3758D4i-4L
  • CPU: Intel Atom C3758
  • RAM: 2x 32 GB
  • Hard drives: 2x Seagate Ironwolf 110 SSDs, 1.92T each
  • Hard disk controllers: Onboard first (causing troubles), then LSI-9211 (works)
  • Network cards: 4x onboard Marvell, appearing as Intel
  • Power supply is a PC Power & Cooling 500W (overkill, but taken from another box)...

Pool Config Disconnected, but Data Remains any possible recovery?

Apologies for asking, but I couldn't find this particular situation only similar ones with key differences. I was working on fixing my FreeNAS server as something had corrupted on it disabling jails, plugins, and other functionality, possibly due to a HDD breaking, which I did manage to get its data saved from that one. But that taking several days of dealing with slow transfers to save it and my plan was to get things functional again and begin working on the backup server. And in my tired...

Hi, I think I have an issue with OpenSSL within FreeNAS freebsd jail.

My FreeNAS version is 11.3 Release
My jails have been updated to use 11.3-RELEASE-p5 as the base

I'm installed nginx and openssl from pkg within the jail. The openssl version from pkg is installed within /usr/local/bin/openssl.
The pkg version is OpenSSL 1.1.1e 17 Mar 2020

There is another version of OpenSSL installed within /usr/bin/openssl.
The jail version is OpenSSL 1.0.2s-freebsd 28 May 2019

How do I make my...

11.3-U1 Google Drive Custom Credentials Issue

Since upgrading to 11.3-U1, I began to use the new cloud credentials GUI to set up a Google Drive access token for rclone cloud sync tasks by following the instructions in the official FreeNAS documentation. This included using the interactive OAuth consent screen that is published for the FreeNAS app to automatically generate an access token to access my account. After setting this up, I discovered that my Google Drive (GSuite Account) cloud push task (set up through the FreeNAS GUI) was...

Replication Tasks in FreeNAS-11.3-U1 need to be started by hand

I have several replication tasks. There are two pools where the replication happens, one internal and one external. Both the internal and external pools are switched on by demand (the internal pools is a Dell PowerVault external HDD enclosure where the pools is imported by hand and the second pools is a N54L with FreeNAS-11.3-U1).

Both pools have the problems that the main FreeNAS does not realize that the pools become available and remains stuck with the error message that the pool is not...

Syncthing Issues - Crashes FreeNAS and Slow speed

i installed syncthing on a 11.3 U1 system, and it seemed fine.
trying to sync data between freenas and a series of desktops (one for now) on a lan
but two issues; one, the freenas server now crashes periodically
and two, the speeds are horrendously slow

checked the syncthing address and it says 'relay client' which according to syncthing is not a good thing, and will cause the slow speeds. which is what i have. but they show no solution

also checked the version numbers; the freenas...

Join the FreeBSD team!
Linux-Folding@Home Port is an easy install on FreeBSD, but if you get the error "FATAL: kernel too old" you will need to adjust a sysctl value: compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.32 which can be done by root for the present session, as sysctl compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.32 or permanently by editing your /etc/sysctl.conf to add that same line. ZFS - Recover overwritten pool

I know I will be smashed and trashed to bits asking this question but I am a brave idiot ;)

The storage setup consisted of 6 4TB WD Reds (storing data - called "ocean") and two mirrored 240GB SSD (storing jails - called "whirlpool"). A few months ago I bought 3 8TB WD Reds and changed 3 4TB disks over, one by one re-silvering them. All went fine.
The new 8TB WD Reds were running much hotter (13-18 C hotter) than the 4TBs so I switched the system off and investigated. WD said they are good...

Is it possible to change RAID configuration

Hi,

so I am a newbie when it comes to NAS and RAID,

I tried searching, but I couldn't find much.

So, when building my machine people told me to just do it in RAID 1, that way my files will be safe and it makes sense, so I did it, and I knew that out of 2 x 4TB HDDs I'll be able to use only 3,8TB or so, I was fine with that, now I'm kind of regretting it because I am at 82% used already,

so I would like to know if it is possible to "unraid" (haha), my HDDs, so that 1 still has all...

Guten Abend zusammen,

What are Spare drives in pools useful for?

After an experimental phase tuning my then-new Sisyphus NAS build (for 10gigE speed and capacity), I ended up with 3 vdevs of 3x4TB RAIDZ1 for my pool, plus I had a couple of spare slots and drives so popped another two drives in and set them as Spares to the pool.

Whenever ZFS decides to kick out a drive, one of the Spares hops in and takes care of things until I replace the ejected drive. While this is happening the pool is Degraded, not Resilvering. The Spare isn't being used to take the...

The goal of this build was firstly to provide a strong 6-bay NAS, Plex server and offsite backup for my Primary NAS. Also, it needs to run ESXi in a performant manner, and will host Windows, OSX, Linux guests, as well as a pfSense gateway. The ESXi installation was the pilot project for an ESXi upgrade I am planning for the Primary NAS.

The Supermicro X10SDV-TLN4F is a Xeon D 1541...
