Will it FreeNAS ? Storage Server for ESXi (NFS) and personal data

Hi everybody,

I´m about to make a new build for my homelab.
Right now i´ve got a "all in one " solution with FreeNAS on ESXi. This works fine for me, but i´d like to go a little bit more "advanced" now.

The hardware (or most of it) ist already here:
Intel Xeon E5 2620 V3
Asus Z10PA-D8
64GB DDR4 ECC RAM
4x Intel DC S3700 800 PCIe NVMe SSDs
4x 4TB WD Red
2x Samsung 850pro 256GB (for FreeNAS installation)
HP Ethernet 560-SFP+ 10G (should work so far, otherwise i will look for a used celsio)...

set zfs default mountpoint

Dear all,

I made a mistake when I tried to set a new mountpoint with "zfs set mountpoint=/newpool tank"

After that I realized that my Sharing (SMB/NFS) mounts aren't working anymore. It's no big deal but annoying to set all my shares to the new mountpoint.
So I tried to set the mount point to the default: "zfs set mountpoint=/mnt tank" BUT after checking the directory the zfs dataset was set to /mnt/mnt/tank and not to /mnt/tank. I tried also "zfs set mountpoint=/ tank" ... well then I see...

set zfs default mountpoint

I have FreeNAS 11.3-U3.2 running on two HP Proliant Microservers. I also run Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, Sabnzbd and Transmission plug-ins.

I am quite keen to upgrade to the TrueNAS Core 12 Beta train as soon as I can, but I am obviously a bit weary about rushing in if there are problems. I have been checking the forum since the Beta was released last week looking for feedback on the upgrade. So far the only issue I have seen is with a Plex Server installation that sounds a non-standard...

Prevent IPCameras from accessing home network.

OS: FreeNAS-11.3-U3.2

I've got two NICs on my server.
One connected to my home network while the other is connected to a switch dedicated to my ip cameras.
I realize ZoneMinder has to be able to communicate with FreeNAS (or else I can't access it), but is there a way to block the cameras?

All this talk about backdoors in Hikvision and Dahua cameras.....

Trouble Determining Cause of Reboots

I have been on FreeNAS-11.1-U4 for quite some time now. I am recently starting to deal with a run of random reboots starting a month or so ago. There is no discernible order to the reboots. Sometimes it is every day, sometimes it is a few days. Being as nothing in my system has changed in the last year I am leaning toward hardware failures, but I have no idea how to narrow down what the issue might be. The system is running on an older SuperMicro 3u server chassis with dual power supplies...

DXE BS driver Unrecognized: Any hints?

Hi everyone.

In my bios event log I found this line:

Error Code:EFI 03058007
Severity: Major
Description: DXE BS driver Unrecognized

Google only finds very few results and none of them are helpful. Therefore my question:

Does anyone know what this means or can point my toward where I could find information on this?

Привет, я тут новенький
И смотрю за вопросы про non-ECC тут бьют, ну не то что бьют, но не любят.
А у меня как раз память простая.

И я подумал, ну включу эту проверку, посмотрю, вроде производительность сильно не падает.
Но возникли вопросы, как правильно это сделать.
То есть вроде бы нужно поставить флажок

0x10 ZFS_DEBUG_MODIFY Check for illegally modified ARC buffers

Но подскажите, как правильно это сделать и будет ли это работать на обычном ядре, а то как-то странно написано...

PSA: Fix pkg after upgrading an iocage jail to 12.1

After upgrading a jail using iocage upgrade -r 12.1-RELEASE jailname on TrueNAS Core 12.0 Beta 1, pkg inside the jail will fail, thusly:

root@traefik:~ # pkg info
ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libarchive.so.6" not found, required by "pkg"


Fix this by running pkg-static install -f pkg inside the jail, which removes the reference to the removed libarchive.so.6.

Which in turn allows you to run pkg upgrade -y to complete...

I would be grateful if someone could shed some light on why I cannot access FreeNAS or a FreeNAS share from a virtual machine on a separate VMWare ESXi host.

Hardware Config:
FreeNAS server:
Motherboard make and model: ASROCK B85M PRO4
CPU make and model: intel Core i5 I5-4590S
RAM quantity: 32GB Corsair CMX16GX3M2A1333C9
Hard drives, quantity, model numbers, and RAID configuration, including boot drives: 6 WD Red 4TB, lz4
Hard disk controllers: SATA
Network cards: On board B85M PRO4, no...

Currently not really having any issues, but I do have a dilemma that’s I was hoping some more intelligent than I could offer some proper guidance on.

Originally I had a single 16GB USB Cruzer running freenas and I have since added an additional mirror after seeing some weird read errors. I thought that this should help me keep some uptime. However I have been reading that due to the increase read/writes to the system, USB dongles are no longer the ideal or preffered method. However i...

Processor:
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU G1610T @ 2.30GHz (2 cores)
Memory:
16 GiB

Setup:
4x 1.36TB Samsung HDD's in a RAID5 setting (ada0,ada1,ada2,ada3)
Boot Pool on ada4
Grub Loader on da0 (needed to be able to boot from ada4 without the use of Hardware-RAID [Gen8-Specific] )

Overall Status:
Device: /dev/ada2, Self-Test Log error count increased...

Приветствую.
Поставил 11.3-U3.2
Система запускается, пишет, что можно зайти на веб морду по таким то ip
Ввожу адрес в браузере, вижу чудесную рыбку и всё, дальше загрузка не идёт.
Логотип в браузере загружается подозрительно долго.
Что с этим делать?

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone in this forum is offering remote assistance? I have Version: FreeNAS-11.3-U2.1
Earlier, I used version 9, and that worked fine. However, since migrating to 11 I am unable to properly configure Win and Linux/Unix shares.
It is very frustrating for me since I don't have the knowledge or time to devote to resolving the issue.
Any volunteers that can help?

While i was looking for an installation guide on how to install NzbHydra2 in a iocage jail in FN11.2, i was unable to find any.
Since i do really like the added benefit of running nzbhydra2, i tried to figure it out for myself and eventually succeeded!
I figured this could also be helpfull for others, which is why i decided to share it here.

Create jail + install dependencies
echo '{"pkgs":["openjdk8","python27","ca_root_nss"]}' > /tmp/pkg.json...

About to set up Zoneminder plugin on my Freenas, but I was wondering how much RAM would be required for smooth operation of 2-3 POE cameras (1440p). Currently, I have 16GB ECC - should this be sufficient? Thanks in advance.
