Strange High Memory Usage by Services

Hi everyone!

I need help to understand what is going on with my freenas memory usage. After a reboot the nas memory is normal but over time Services increases to the point that almost entire Nas is consumed (see image below)

I only have one jail with MiniDLNA and one ubuntu virtual machine with 4GB memory allocated. Can someone help me investigate why Services are consuming so much?

Hi,

it took me a long time to do the upgrade, but finally I did it, I went from FreeNAS 11.2-U8 to TrueNAS 12.0-U3 a few days ago.

Before the upgrade, I had an uptime of more than 400 days, and now the system don't stay up more more 2 days.

I disabled the ipmi watchdog (stopped the watchdogd service and put a cron task to stop the watchdog) but it doesn't seems to be the problem, althought I am not so sure.

hi,
i setup truenas core 12 last October to replace a storage server.
The plan was to bring Truenas up on an interim system, with an external 16disk 8GB sas jbod-enclosure, so i could play a little with it and get familiar to Truenas and the underlying Freebsd (up to now, i'm more a Linux-user). When the system was stable enough, i copied the data from the old (and designated new) server
to the interim machine.

Now the time has come, and i want to migrate the system back to the final...

Recommendations for File Server - Small Business with about 20 users

Hi,

For a small business, we need to setup a file server. There are about 20-25 users. Planned storage capacity is 4 TB, with raid mirror. Down the line we would like to add another set of 4-6 TB drives.

We have a Xigmanas File server that has been running a few years with 2 TB capacity, which we are close to exhausting it. I read about FreeNas and TrueNas and considering to get our new file server with Truenas. I need some help with recommendations on processor, mother board, ram, hard...

Second home directory possible?

Dear Community!

I am currently setting up truenas which will replace our old nas at our IT. I joined truenas with our domainserver and activeted the home directory.

Is it possible to have 2 or more home directories? We want that every user has a home directory and a second home directory (for example called "backup") where they can put their time machine backups.

Alternativley, is it possible to automatically create folders for every user in their home directory? If yes, we could mount...

New to TrueNAS. Setting up a NFS server for XCP-ng/Xenserver

Hi!

First of all, I am new to TrueNAS and FreeBSD+ZFS, but I have used Linux and Btrfs extensively in the past.

I am looking to to test TrueNAS as a NFS server hosting VM images used by XCP-ng (Xenserver).

The setup I have available is:
  • Core i7-8200 6/12 core
  • 16GiB RAM
  • 2x10TB HDD
  • 2x1TB SSD
  • 1x 256GB NVME
  • 2x1Gbit network (LACP)
Primary usage = Live VDI storage over NFS (low write traffic)
Sencondary usage = VM Backups (made by xcp-ng/Xen Orchestra)

general idea is to use with AV scanning/servers for storage protection, and i see that mos of them use ICAP with other storage vendors

Hi,
I am trying to mount a share (ext4 formatted usb disk shared via smb on ubuntu).
I am in a plex jail and have no success.

I have created /mnt/mymedia in my jail.

My /etc/samba/smb. conf (on my ubuntu machine):
[mymedia]
path = /mnt/mymedia
public = yes
writeable = yes
comment = mymedia

I can connect to the share from my windows 10 pc, but my jail has problems:

I purchased a used SuperMicro CSE-836E16-R92JBD 3U LFF 16 BAY 3.5 JBOD BPN-SAS2-836EL1

I think the backplane is bad in my JBOD. I checked the cables, card, backplane jumpers. I just purchased another card, and JBOD, and I have a new spare cable. This is what happens:

Hi,

I'm in the process of upgrading FreeNAS to TrueNas Core.
Eveything going smoothly so far but on one machine.

Ever since upgrading it shows the following error a couple of time a day:
ixl...: Malicious Driver Detection event 1 on RX queue

Sometimes ixl0, sometimes ixl1.

The only effect I've seen so far is that machine times out on ssh connections. The iscsi connections seem to work ok but maybe it happens there too.
The retry on ssh (sometimes the 3rd try) almost always leads to a...

Cannot import pool - Permission Denied

Hello all,

I am at a loss for what has happened to a pool that i've had running for several years without issue. The pool is a 4TB mirror with 1 of the 2 drives presently failed and physically removed (and has been for quite some months).

Anyway, I recently upgraded to TrueNAS from FreeNAS mostly successfully. After the upgrade, both of my pools came up. One of the pools (not the one I am having issues with now) had a disk IO problem that resolved after I replaced a SATA cable.

Je suis l'heureux possesseur d'un DELL PowerEdge T320 (avec TrueNAS Core).
remplit de 32 GB de ram ECC, j'ai eu loccasion d'en rajouter 16, 2*8.
mais voilà... je me suis rendu compte qu'une de ces nouvelles barrettes est défectueuse.

lorsque je la retire de l'ensemble, des memtest à la suite se déroulent sans encombre et avec zéro erreur.
(la barrette en faute fait que le slot concerné se déclare en faute)

Hey folks!
Like some others on the forums, my dashboard's metrics graphs don't work, even on a first time install of v12! So, to satiate my need for data, I decided to use Grafana.

I've been setting up Grafana + InfluxDB on my TrueNAS 12 setup and have been struggling to find a start to finish guide on how to do it, including correctly parsing the Graphite metrics from the NAS.

I know the community plugin exists, but why use that when you can do it yourself? :grin:

Hello, for a few days now I am trying to get a TrueNAS-12.0-U3 to work with Active Directory. Please note that I am beginner with this software and I'm familiar just with the basics. The problem described bellow appears for THIRD time after fresh reinstall of TrueNAS.

So, after setting the NTP/Time zone/DNS and AD service, I have a shared directory which I can access with AD user, everything is working as expected. Expect when I reboot the TrueNAS server - after reboot I get this...

Hi

I upgraded from 12 U2.21 to 12 U3 and as soon as it rebooted I started to see error after error with SMBD and others.

These are the msgs I saw

smbd 1753 ../../source3/passdb/lookup_sid.c:1528(get_primary_group_sid)
smbd 1753 Failed to find a Unix account for andre
smbd 1753 ../../source3/auth/check_samsem.c:493(check_sam_security)

Hi,

Does anyone have experience with combining an HPE DL380 Gen10 LFF Server with a Broadcom (LSI) 9400-16i HBA (05-50008-00) for running TrueNas?
The HBA is supported by TrueNas and could be connected to the Backplane with a SFF8643-MiniSas cable.
For connecting all bays I will need 3x (05-26119-00) Broadcom CBL-SFF8643-8087-10M cables, I guess.
The idea is to load it with 10x 12TB HPE Helium disks (JBOD), and 2x SSD disks (Raid1) for the TrueNas OS.

I have a K8s cluster and use Rancher to manage this cluster. I was able to add the K3s cluster created automatically by SCALE 21.04 in Rancher and appears as a seperate cluster (cool :smile:).
