[FreeNAS10] Partitioning system disk/installing containers to it?

Good morning.

I have a Freenas 2017-02-03 server running with the following disk configuration:

- 8x10TB HDD in Raid6 as storage disks (connected to 8 SATA3 ports)
- 1x256GB SSD as boot disk (connected to USB3.0 port with a USB3.0-to-SATA3 adapter)

The problem is that I need to install some containers (plex, transmission, owncloud...) and I cannot select the path to the boot disk, I guess, as it is not partitioned, so it cannot host a volume/dataset.
Installing the containers to any of...

How to install MineOS-node in a jail (alternative to using the MineOS plugin)

This tutorial is intended to be a simple cookbook for FreeNAS users that would like to set up MineOS in a jail without using the MineOS plugin. More info on that plugin here.
I've been using the plugin for many moons myself, but I found myself wanting & needing some more control what versions of Java & Node are used, as MineOS has been getting ahead. I noticed there were quite a few people in...

Adding a volume remounts existing volumes???

I needed to move some data to another filer, so I plugged in a USB disk (da8) and created a new volume using just the new disk. It took a really long time so I checked dmesg and /var/log/messages and saw:

Code:
da8 at umass-sim0 bus 0 scbus8 target 0 lun 0
da8: <ASMT 2105 0> Fixed Direct Access SCSI-6 device
da8: Serial Number 00000000000000000000

Hi, on the FreeNAS-10-MASTER-201702070501-b34202062, I tried again with the replication, and now it went right to configure it through the GUI w/o problem, fixed also snapshots, but replications will not start, I put it on every hours, but has never run, Peering works nice as well, is there anything I missed to do?
Grateful for the help, and thanks for the great job you have done.

Problems enabling HTTPS with CA generated cert

So I'm trying to set up HTTPS on my 9.10 FreeNAS box. I have an MS AD integrated CA with an offline root and an online issuing CA that I am using to issue a certificate. I loaded the Certificates section and generated a CSR. I used the text of the CSR to request a new certificate from the CA, utilizing a "general web server" template I already have configured. I went and approved that certificate request on the issuing CA, and then downloaded the certificate chain file (p7b) from the...

Multiple sites FreeNAS, AD and DNS

Hey all,
I currently have a windows 2008 (just 2008 not r2) domain with 15 remote sites connected via lan to lan vpns.
At each site I have a small FreeNAS server versions range depending on the install date. Oldest version is about 2 years back.
I am using FreeNAS for the users home shares and the local facility share.
Each facility has between 3 and 8 people who are domain users.

I seem to be running into a few issues that stem from connectivity back to the home office when we...

Thanks.

New to FreeNAS. I have a very small customer who in the short term needs NAS for storage, but down the road would like to move to virtualization. When I say small - tiny would be more like it. they have 1 DC/ File server and 5 work stations. However, the owner has to be one of the most dedicated data backup - DR minded person I've ever come across. They do not have a server room, and whatever I build them needs to be reasonably quite.
So I am looking to build them a FreeNAS 9.10 box to...

rsync off-site backup question

Hello all! This is my first post, so please bare with me. I have tried googling and searching this forum and FreeBSD documentation as much as I could and I got quite far, but sometimes that doesn't really help grasp a concept.

Anyway, here's what I'm trying to do:

I have a 4TB mirrored Volume (2x WD Red) and a 4TB striped Volume (1x WD Green). The mirrored volume called "kompact_nas" will be my primary "working" storage and I'd like to clone it regularly to the striped volume called...

I have a FreeNAS Mini that has suffered what appears to be a motherboard failure. I have a FreeNAS Min XL, with enough empty slots to move the four drives from the failed units to it. I have several questions:

1) Must I power off the XL, when installing the four drives from the failed unit?
2) How do I get the XL to recognize the additional volume?
3) The volume names in both units is called "tank". Will that be a problem when adding the drives to the XL? If so, how do I work around that?...

Looks like the Avaton family, used in the FreeNAS Mini, many home builds (myself included), and other products may have a potential fatal failure due to the clock generator on the chip.
Not sure if it's been reported or made known to y'all here on the forum, but wanted to share if it hasn't.

Essential, basic testing before a build release, scripting testing?

Is it possible to script the following somehow?

Latest build, installed fresh on to a wiped machine / VM (at least 2 disks free presumably, one boot, one storage)
A volume created.
A zvol / directory created
Said directory / zvol shared
A single 'known reliable' docker container installed.
One folder written to a share?

I know that sounds like a lot but it's about 25-40 clicks or something.
I am finding myself totally unable to do these very elementary things, very often with the builds....

Hello,

since i am new to FreeNAS (only have one box, which has some HW problems) and would like to replace it, was thinking going with this confuguration. I am using it for ISCSI host for test databasese. Maybe even some VMs.This is not production.

I would use HP server since i can get it preety cheap ( around 2k € )
HP DL380 Gen9
1x Xeon E5-2620v4
32GB of ECC RAM
P440ar and P440
16x disk slots

So i thought why not use regular Samsung SSDs. 500GB EVO or PRO? I know they got limitations...

Storage solution - multiple small volumes or one big

Hi,
I have a question about best solution for best performance regarding volume sizes.

We have one Supermicro server, SSG-6048R-E1CR36N, with 2 x CPU E5-2620v3, 256GB RAM and 11 x 4 TB SAS, 11 x 8 TB SATA, 6 x 500 GB SSD and 4 x 256GB SSD. (We have one more with the same performance for our backup system.)
This storage will serve our virtual cluster running Proxmox on four physical nodes. We have 40 running virtual machines.

The disks are for now

How Do i properly setup the storage for a web server jail?

I am not asking how to setup a basic F/LAMP stack. I have done that before on stand alone systems. I consider myself a newbie to a lot of linux/bsd stuff. I can do/understand the basic stuff but the advance stuff gets above my head very fast. So on to the show....

I can log into the phpvirtualbox gui just fine and everything operates however when I try to access the gui for FreeNas it will load 1% in about 15minutes and times out. I suck at CLI (yes bring on the shaming but I am purely self taught). This all started with the 9.10.2 removal of phpvirtualbox support. Had to rollback and never been the same. Other interesting finding is that when at the console assigning interfaces for network is also super slow and occasionally fails reporting database...
