Symlinks not followable in Freenas 8 using CIFS/SMB

Hello,

I have just upgraded to Freenas 8 and I've mounted two volumes. There are symlinks on both of the volumes that point to the other.

I would like to know how I can configure Freenas such that when I share one (or both) of the volumes via CIFS that Windows will be able to follow the symlinks.

My understanding is that I can enable "follow symlinks = yes" in smb.conf, however I can't change the smb.conf file as these setting come from the freenas db and overwrite and changes I...

Issues with remote access on plex

I had issues with this in the past and never got it resolved but now I'm having to revisit this task.

I wouldn't think this would be so hard but I've had no luck with remote access on my plex server running on FreeNas. I called my ISP, since they NAT IP addresses by default and had them remove NAT. In my netgear router settings I changed my IP from "set dynamically by ISP" to Static. I set up a port forward with all 4 ports as 32400 and my plex jail IP as the IP there. It still says it's...

arp:

I've been getting an arp moved error email for a while now, and I was wondering if it could be caused by the fact that I'm only using a single ethernet cable from my NAS to my router (and that single cable/interface handles IPMI and internet).
Code:
> arp: 192.168.zz.zz moved from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx to yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy on epair0b

The first MAC address is a Super Micro MAC address while the second one doesn't seem to exist to any specific hardware vendor.

I also ran:

Machine not booting without a monitor. Solutions for headless?

Hey all,

My build uses ECS/Biostar NM70I-1037U board.  I haven't been able to figure out how to make it boot without a monitor.  It boots without a keyboard though.

I suppose it is very common to run headless, so what solution do others use?  Dummy resistor load on VGA?  I looked around and found dongles that advertise EDID support, both VGA and HDMI.  Do any of you use those, and do they work?  Or are the VGA ones just resistors on the inside?

Insight is appreciated.  Thanks!

Windows 10 VM BSoD's randomly

Hello everyone,

I am finally trying out VMs in Freenas, because I want to go away from having multiple computers for doing stuff...
The installation was quite smooth albeit slow, I have used the latest ISO from windows via their Media Creation tool.
Directly after the installation I installed the VirtIO drivers for the NIC and for a VirtIO drive, just to find out that windows locks up when trying to format a virtIO drive.
So I stayed at AHCI for the drives and VirtIO for the NIC.
The VM...

Used/available storage problems

Hello!

I have issues of understanding, why I have a certain amount of allocated storage on my volume. I have a volume over two 3 TB disks in a mirror configuration.

My volume is called "v1" and contains a few datasets. I do not store data in the root of the volume directly. See "vol.PNG" for a picture of the configuration. I actually use 500 GB of that volume with data within the datasets. I have basically no snapshots at the moment. However, I fail to see, why significantly more than 500...

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping you can help. I've used these forums for almost all of my FreeNAS questions. I very much appreciate your replies to others' problems. This is my first post and I am a relative noob--sorry everyone.

I upgraded to FreeNAS 11 recently and the system seemed to be working fine. After a couple weeks though, the system wouldn't boot--it would get hung up and result in being frozen at KDB: Enter: Panic. So I did a fresh install of FreeNAS 11, and it starts fine....

Hey all,

After a 3 year hiatus I'm giving FreeNAS another go.  I ran 9.3 before my family took my server down.  Now they realized their need for a reliable network filesystem so the server is back.  Jerks!

My machine (2014-spec build):
Motherboard: ECS/Biostar NM70I-1037U
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HBA: Dell PERC H310, IT mode, flashed to P20
HDDs: 8x Seagate 2TB SATA
USB: SanDisk Cruzer Fit 8GB

Since my 9.3 installation had some problems (bugs in Samba permissions), I chose not to upgrade and opt for...

Has anyone come across this?

I have been using FreeNAS for almost 2 years.  My job is L2 support for converged systems (storage, networking, compute hardware, OS) for computer manufacturer.   Which deals with Linux, Windows, VMware, some Unix(little Solaris and AIX).
My hobbies are building computers and playing with FreeBSD, Omnios and FreeNAS.
Look forward to learning much.

Hi! I have the following strucutre:

I have a MEDIA dataset at /mnt/vol_1/MEDIA in my Storage, with media as group and user owner.

I also have a plex and transmission jail. Both installed clean, nothing changed. Now, I am trying to achieve that both of them points to the MEDIA folder. Plex worked just fine without doing anything, but Transmission gives me a permission denied error.

I searched a lot, but did not find any post/tutorial which could solve my problem entirely. Some would help...

LAGG with LACP

I am using FreeNAS 9.2.1.2.

I have the Intel x520-DA2 card in the server. I was trying to get LACP working on it. When I setup the lagg interface in FreeNAS, it seems like LACP is working correctly. The switch side shows that the trunk is active so the LACP protocol seems to be working correctly, but when I try and pass traffic (doing either tagged or untagged vlans) it will not work. If I remove the interfaces from the lagg and assign the IP on an individual interface it works great...

X11SSM-F New BIOS Posted

Well I just checked the Supermicro site and found a new BIOS firmware file called X11SSMF7_309.  There was no IPMI update file.

Supermicro does not tell you what changed in the BIOS, very sad.  I really want to update but my system is running perfectly fine right now, but still I'm being pulled towards the dark side.  So if anyone has additional data on this update, I'd like to hear about it.

Slightly off 3TB drive sizes

I recently built a FreeNAS setup. As recently as having it finished yesterday.

Of the 8 drives I have, all of them were purchased as "3TB" drives. One of the drives is 2.9TB, while the others are 2.7TB. The smaller ones were what I expected and this is the first time I've gotten more than I paid for and had a problem with it. I can't merge them all into a single raidz2 using the basic interface, and haven't been able to figure out how to use the manual controls.

I've read numerous things...

I downloaded FreeNAS-11.0-U4.iso with a view of upgrading FreeNAS from 9.10.2-U6 to version 11 Beta.  I do not need this, but one of the tech support people suggested testing the Beta.  In any case, when I started thinking about the install, I recalled that I added 3 hard disks...
