I've progressed through the article on b3n.org about setting up FreeNAS as a VM. Ive given it 2 dedicated cores and 16 GB of dedicated RAM.

I followed all the recommendations as best I could. I have the following setup:
supermicro x10 srh-clnf4
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 (12 core w. hyperthreading)
LSI 3008 (onboard) flashed to IT mode.
64 gb ddr4 2400 ram
6 wd red x 2 TB each (setup in raid10)
100 Gb Intel s3700  x2 (mirror) as ZIL

I installed embedded vsphere 6.5, the most recent...

NextCloud - Zertifikate installieren

Moin,

Machine not booting without a monitor. Solutions for headless?

Hey all,

My build uses ECS/Biostar NM70I-1037U board.  I haven't been able to figure out how to make it boot without a monitor.  It boots without a keyboard though.

I suppose it is very common to run headless, so what solution do others use?  Dummy resistor load on VGA?  I looked around and found dongles that advertise EDID support, both VGA and HDMI.  Do any of you use those, and do they work?  Or are the VGA ones just resistors on the inside?

Insight is appreciated.  Thanks!

How start iscsi in single user mode?

My zfs volume is corrupt and throws freenas into panic at boot. I've successfully followed the forum thread that describes how to mount it read only in single user mode so that part is fixed.

Network is up and I'm able to ping freenas system from hosts, ssh is also up and I'm logged on to cli. Web gui is however not working, I'm able to log on but the page is blank, probably due to not all services are started.

What I need help with is a way to give ESXi hosts access to the vmfs volume! So...

Bhyve Boot settings are not saving

I have a Windows 10 Professional VM working in a Bhyve VM, however I am having a problem getting it to save new boot settings.  If I hit Esc while booting I get to a bios screen, and I make my changes, like to now boot only from the hard drive, and to not wait for a key to boot.  I make sure I press F10 to save changes, and it says the changes have been saved, but then after the next boot, they are all back where they were.  It's waiting for a keystroke to boot, but now I really really...

[HOW-TO] How-to Boot Linux VMs using UEFI

There have been a number of threads were people have failed to boot a Linux VM after the installation phase using the webUI of FreeNAS 11 nightly, finding themselves stuck in the EFI shell and not knowing how to proceed nor how to avoid this happening each time their VM is started.

It has been sugested elsewhere that this is due a grub error, or a grubx64.efi file which is missing or in the wrong place, or you must create a startup.nsh file or change the boot order in the EFI shell.  If...

Anyway to convert my iohyve VMs from a MBR to a GPT partition table?

Is there anyway to convert and MBR partition table to a GPT partition table within an iohyve created VM? Or would it just be easier to start over?  Normally on a bare metal machine I would boot into gparted and make the modifications, however I don't think this will work with iohyve.

Virtualization roadmap?

Dear hard working iX systems staff ;)

I stumbled on a few threads in this forum mentioning iohyve to manage VMs. I know that jails are planned to be managed by iocage in future releases, but what about the plans for VMs?

For example the three VMs I created with the web UI don't show up in iohyve list.

Upgrade/Issues

I started using FreeNAS back around 0.6.9, or 0.7.0. With each new version it's become less, and less stable for me. About 6 months ago I had a storage drive fail, and I replaced it. Since then the OS has not started. Fixing it hasn't been a high priority, and now it's finally to the point to be fixed. I think I was on 9.3, but I don't remember.

If I install the current stable version will it wipe the data on the software raid from before? Unfortunately I need to keep that data. The NAS was...

Qualified RAM for ASRock E3C236D2I Mini-ITX?

This is my first server and FreeNAS build I'm doing right now.  I am planning on using this for 16 TB of usable space with 6 x 4TB HDDs in RAID-Z2 on FreeNAS with plex. Also I want to run virtual machines on it too.
Right now, I've decided on a ASRock E3C236D2I Mini-ITX and Intel Xeon E3-1220 v6.

When I try to find RAM approved by ASRock to use in there motherboard, the Memory QVL list is located on ASRock site here:...

Lately I've seen a lot posts about ASRock Avoton boards failing < 2 years.  Just wondering how long yours has lasted and whether anyone has a board that went past the 2 year mark?

Considering FreeNAS minis run off these boards, I question the longevity of it and whether I should start looking for a new miniITX solution?

My C2750D4i lasted 13 months and just then suddenly won't POST

Issues with remote access on plex

I had issues with this in the past and never got it resolved but now I'm having to revisit this task.

I wouldn't think this would be so hard but I've had no luck with remote access on my plex server running on FreeNas. I called my ISP, since they NAT IP addresses by default and had them remove NAT. In my netgear router settings I changed my IP from "set dynamically by ISP" to Static. I set up a port forward with all 4 ports as 32400 and my plex jail IP as the IP there. It still says it's...

Hi! I have the following strucutre:

I have a MEDIA dataset at /mnt/vol_1/MEDIA in my Storage, with media as group and user owner.

I also have a plex and transmission jail. Both installed clean, nothing changed. Now, I am trying to achieve that both of them points to the MEDIA folder. Plex worked just fine without doing anything, but Transmission gives me a permission denied error.

I searched a lot, but did not find any post/tutorial which could solve my problem entirely. Some would help...

I'm trying to create a VM, it says vm started but state never runs and stays stopped (tried with Wait to boot enabled and disabled) . I don't know if my cpu is too old but I think I remember running a windows VM on a previous version (9.3? maybe I'm remembering wrong). Not sure what else to provide or how else to describe the problem.

I have a decent amount of experience with Samba and Windows but this one has me stuck.

I simply have not been able to access any share from this one WIn2012 R2 server, it's a Domain controller..

I AM trying in the correct username and password and I've tried every combination of username:

And cannot access the share.

Any other computer I try connects to it and works.  WIn7 Win10 Win8.1 Server 2008 R2..

Troubleshooting megabit write speeds on gigabit link

I have setup my first FreeNAS (FreeNAS 11) box with the components listed here.

I have configured a single RAIDz2 volume for the pool out of my 8x4TB WD reds. My current issue, I believe, is around network speeds, but if someone more knowledgeable feels otherwise, I am all ears. Currently I am experiencing proper gigabit speeds when reading from the server, but when writing to the server I am lucky to hit 120 Mbits/sec.

Here's the output...

Supermicro chassis and motherboard, doesn't recognize drives

This isn't a FreeNAS issue, but since this chassis and motherboard seem to be used for FreeNAS installations I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I recently purchased this chassis: SUPERMICRO CSE-825TQ-563LPB Black 2U Rackmount Server Case 560W
and this motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SRL-F Server Motherboard LGA 2011 R3
along with an appropriate Xeon CPU and 16G of RAM.

I also have 4 x 4TB HGST Deskstar NAS SATA3 hard drives that I want to use in it.
