UPS setup for multiple All-In-One (FreeNAS-on-ESXi) servers on the same UPS

Setting up the UPS NUT service to shut down a standalone FreeNAS system is straightforward. But things become more interesting when you have multiple systems, especially when those systems are All-In-One (AIO) servers with FreeNAS running as a virtual machine on VMware's ESXi. In this case you don't want to shut down FreeNAS directly. Instead, you want to shut down ESXi and let it shut down all of its virtual machines, including FreeNAS.

If you're running ESXi v4.x/5.x/6.x, you're fortunate...

FreeNAS 11.1-U4 Jail Oracle JDK Port Build ELF Errors

I'm running a Java-based application in a FreeNAS iocage jail.  I've been experiencing some serious performance issues with OpenJDK, and the software vendor actually recommended that I not use OpenJDK but rather use the Oracle JDK.  So this is the path I'm on.

I've enabled the linux_load tunable in FreeNAS and kldstat shows the proper modules are loaded.

However, when I attempt to build the port using the documentation on the FreeBSD web site (https://www.freebsd.org/java/ -...

Hey all, good evening!  I'm new to the forum, but am excited to be here.  I have been using FreeNAS for a little over a year, and am just having my first major problem.  Looking forward to hearing if you have any suggestions.  I know this problem has been encountered before, but I haven't seen any posts with definite solutions.  So here goes:

I did an upgrade to FreeNAS from a remote location over SSH... I broke my rule of always doing upgrades on site.  After the reboot, I was unable to...

Hi all, real quick intro, FreeNAS newb, linux beginner at best.

Recently moved to a FreeNAS setup at the house for main data storage, and so far its been great.  Got a few plugins going even and really enjoying it,  however I keep getting failures and even the occasional crash from it.

I installed on a matching pair of SanDisk Cruser flash drives, day 1 went great no problems, day 2 experienced my first failure, but honestly pulling the offending drive, and replacing with a different, it...

Copying Datasets to New Machine With zfs send/recv

I'm not quite grokking the semantics of copying datasets around using zfs send and recv.  Specifically, I think my familiarity with rsync is causing me confusion when thinking about copying datasets.

As I understand it, zfs send and recv operate on snapshots.  This seems simple enough:  Create snapshot of source dataset, zfs send it to a stream (over the network), zfs recv the stream into a destination dataset.  That...

Hello everyone,
I have build my test FreeNAS 4 months ago to test functionality and if I will like it. It's was build on old unused components: Intel Celeron CPU 847, 4 GB RAM and 2x750GB disks. I know it doesn't meet minimum requirements, but all data I have on it is on another place and it can be damaged. In this period of testing I found FreeNAS super system and I like it. But reading many post on forum and HW requirement I've read of ECC RAM. First I thought that I can't build FreeNAS...

Writing speed depends on install location

Hey FreeNas!

Yesterday I installed FreeNAS 11 on two thumb drives attached to a server that handles 12 sata disks behind a storage controller configured there as a raid0 array and in FreeNAS itself configured as an raidZ3.

Somehow the writing speed that it produces was around 40 mb/s, the same writing speed that the USB2 produces. After which I installed FreeNAS again on a mini-hdd, which produces a writing speed of around 100mb/s.

In short my question is: Why is FreeNAS it's writing...

Hello guys, with FN 9.x I was able to execute a ssh command (passwordless ssh) from another machine which would login to FN and execute a poweroff.
To obtain this, I needed to make this script run at every boot on FN side:
echo "userxxx ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown" >> /usr/local/etc/sudoers

However now, this does not seem to work any more (after updating to FN11, as I am prompted with an error saying that this user doesnt have permission to execute /sbin/shutdown
I've also tried to...

This is a how to install Nextcloud 13 with all checks passed on FreeNAS 11.

New in this guide is how to create and iocage jail and it also works with version 11 & 12 of nextcloud

This is a rewrite of the original post https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/how-to-nextcloud-10-w-apache-php-and-mariadb.46111/ with a few added adjustments where needed to make this fully functional.
I know this works as I have re-emulated this 4 times today to insure its accuracy...

L'intallazione finisce senza errori....
Ma poi il sistema non parte...
Ci sto smanettando da 2 giorni, provando anche a cambiare le USB...
Come fare? Inoltre, volevo chiedere se c'è un canale telegram italiano.

UFS Import Volume Issue

Hi, I am having a severe issue.
I have setup a little nas box at work (FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-x86 (10351)) on a fresh 16gb Corsair drive (yes, overkill, but the original drive developed some physical errors--originally running FreeNAS-8.0.2).

Anyways, I reinstalled the original FreeNAS-8.0.2 first.
I was unable to auto-import/import my original volume (2x 500gb Western Digitals – Mirrored Array).
The issue is duplicated after installing FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-x86 (10351) as well.

The...

How to diagnose SMB/CIFS drop outs from FreeNAS

Hi,

I have a FreeNAS/ESXi AIO, and am having an issue with SMB access from a VM on the same ESXi host the FreeNAS VM is.

FreeNAS and my Windows Server 2016 VMs both run on the same host, and are connected to the same vSwitch with vmxnet3 vNICS.
I have an app running on 2016, that stores and reads data at length, on a share on the FreeNAS box.
I am finding that the app repeatedly reports it is unable to write to that location.

I originally thought it may be a networking issue, as I was...

linux vm will not boot with kernel >= 4.15

Hello everybody. I have plenty of arch linux VMs installed in bhyve, and since kernel was updated to 4.15, I cannot boot them normally. I was able to fix this by booting with install iso, and downgrade kernel to linux-lts, that is 4.14. For now the kernel is 4.16.3 and still no luck. I have made a screenshot with "debug" option sent to kernel, so you can see what is freezing the system.
I know this may be not freenas issue, but upstream, but you here are good guys, I think you can help me...

Large Backup Storage Appliance

I'm in the midst of designing a storage appliance to house client offsite backups which will replicate to one another bi-coastal (freenas replication).  The files housed on the storage appliance would range in 10GB - 50GB in nature, typically no smaller and are 95% writes versus reads.  There is likely a ingestion of 5 terabytes per day.  There are no VM's connected to this storage its only for offsite backup targets and replication.

Here is the hardware I'm currently looking at:...

Hi All!

I have installed Nextcloud 12 on FreeNAS 11.1-U4 following this guide (https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...3-on-freenas-11-with-all-checks-passed.58634/) sort of.

Now I want to access my Nextcloud installation (192.168.2.100) from the internetz.

This is what happens: When I am connected to my LAN I get to Nextcloud (192.168.2.100) just fine BUT when I i try to access from internet (trough dynamic dns and port forwarding in my router)...
