I am running 11.1-Release on an 8G USB, and I am running out of room.
Just bought a 32G and want to move it over..
It looks like i just need to install 11.1-Release on the new USB and upload the config.db in to it..
is it really that simple?  nothing I need to get from the jails?

Thanks
Bandion

You see how I choose the right port.

Can anyone help?  What am I missing?
Thx all,

RAM: Samsung 4x16GB 2400 UDIMM ECC.

I had build up the PC, run it and I hear 5 short beeps and one long.
Then I entered to the IMPI and I see following Hardware list.

Pool usage unexpectedly decreased

I have a 9.10 server with over 200 tb of storage in a single pool.  I have snapshots enabled and it takes 3 months for deleted files to filter through the snapshots before deletion.  Today I looked at my mapped drive of the server and I felt like I had more available space than I should... to the tune of 4tb or so.  I looked over recent emails that I have set up to give me pool status and just 3 days ago my pool utilization was at 86% while today it is 83%.  I would normally assume that a...

Samba + iSCSI failing - NAS sends "ZeroWindow" timeouts on simple workloads most of the time

This is a clean update of 11.1-U1, as of a few days ago. No VMs, no jails, no weird config, no other services running, no authentication or share browsing issues, good hardware, and only configured in GUI. I just ran "verify install" and no errors. The hardware is good and new (no issues/errors known), the few tunables are well known ones that should be 100% safe, and there are no Samba auxiliary conf items related to sockets, networking or caching (and iSCSI with the same issue doesn't have...

Large 36 x 12TB Build

Hey,

I have a build for which I need to ensure rebuilds do not impact the array, I assume I would be best of doing mirrored vdevs rather than RAIDZ2 or RAIDZ3 vdevs to reduce the impact of rebuilds?

The purpose of the array is a backup target, it's worth noting my backup software does perform consistency checks on the data, hence my worry about rebuilds impacting read/write speeds!

Also it worth having a NVMe PCIe slog? I need to ensure data is committed to the array without fail, I want...

getfacl says my unprivileged account should be able to read the contents of a dir, but it can't?

I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious..... but I can't see it.

The ACLs say I can list the contents of a directory in my pool, but I can't.  I just can't see what it could be. Until I can fix this, I can't let other users access the file server so it's quite 'in the way'. Help very appreciated if anyone can suggest what's up and a fix!

Here's the getfacl output on the problem dir and its parent + grandparent:

# getfacl /mnt/data_dir/working_dir/
# owner: root

zpool import causes panic

I was running the FreeNAS 11 Nightly from 20180416. I came home and found the box had panic'd, so I reset and let the machine reboot. It panic'd again when it tried to import the main data set. It successfully imports the boot volume.

Things I have tried:

1. built new boot usb.
2. zpool import -f
3. zpool import -fF -o readonly
4. moved disks to another machine

zpool import command itself reports back that all 5 disks of the pool are online.

I am looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance.

OK so situation - I have several FreeNAS servers all running latest version (11.1-U4) but cannot get Ubuntu 16.04 server to boot on any of them.  I am following any of the various online tutorials but no matter I do at the end of it all I get is a perfectly black screen and an unresponsive VM.  The system will book the install ISO, go through the complete installation and then after reboot I power off and delete the virtual CD ROM driver, select the bootx64.efi file from the EFI menu (or...

Zpools online, kernel panics when I try to zpool import

Hi all,

I needed some advise on what the best solution would be for me to move some or all of my data out of my now corrupted FreeNAS so that I can wipe/format the OS and data drives and build a new clean system.

Here is the hardware we have available to move data to/from:
  1. FreeNAS-main -- 40TB RAW (using RaidZ2 it's about 94% full) - FreeNAS (FreeNAS-11.1-U4) installed
  2. FreeNAS-sandbox01 -- 32TB RAW empty - FreeNAS (FreeNAS-11.1-U4) installed
  3. FreeNAS-sandbox02 -- 32TB RAW...

FreeNAS running slow, high CPU & HDD usage and I have no idea why

I'm very new to FreeNAS. I have a server setup and running configured with Plex Media Server & SMB sharing. Every so often the server runs very slowly for a few days and then it's fine. When it's running slow the HDD & CPU usage are pretty much constantly at 100% but I have no idea how to check what's chewing through the resources. Also, the HDD light on the machine is just lit constantly as well when it's running slowly. I'm sorry for my ignorance and I'd be open to anything anyone has to...

First Intel build - Will it FreeNAS?

A while back I decided I wanted to build a FreeNAS box for my small personal network.  I have various files on multiple drives that I hotswap.  That's really getting old.
I've never built an Intel system before, always built AMD.  But I want to do this right with ECC memory.  Also will set up with two parity drives.
I might want to add ownCloud later.
I've been buying 4TB drives as I can over the past several months (I'm now up to six drives) and need to start buying other system components....

I am a classic home tinkerer getting his feet wet in this world.

I have had FreeNAS 9 and 10 running on a machine for a couple years now, and have always been able to access my server via the GUI using the root and password.

Today I upgraded to the latest stable version of 11, and can no longer access the system via the GUI using root and the same password.  After I enter the user name root and my password, after a few seconds I get a read bar over the sign-in screen that says "Server...

Expansion on the cheap...?

Hello!

Until last week I had a ReadyNAS Duo. Now I have a Gen10 HP Microserver running FreeNAS and I am *happy*. FreeNAS rocks, and so do a lot of people here on the forum who give good advice - thank you!

My use case is fairly low:
MediaServer (but watching max. 1 movie or four TV shows a week)
Business Nearline Storage (not on there yet, will grow to 4TB, most of that are very large files, few of which I need to use more than once, but need to keep just in case)
3 x TimeMachine backups...
