Good afternoon everyone,
I will start with a big thanks to all in this forum as reading it has been greatly helpful as I am quite new to FreeNAS.

To start I would like to describe my setup slightly... I have a FreeNAS system directly connected to 3 cluster nodes and 1 backup server. So I've run this through PCPartPicker and a friend who has a FreeNAS box already running but I wanted some final verification before I take the plunge.  Budget is $2k. Use cases: Plex server (4-5 streams simultaneously max, regular load 2), TimeMachine back up for 2 Macs, general file server, NextCloud/OwnCloud, 3-4 VMs (windows 10 and a few linux flavors).  I'm expecting this build to last roughly 10 years and expect a couple drive failures along the way....

Case suggestions

Hi all,

I recently completed a proof of concept build of a FreeNas box in a standard atx case. I would like to move it to a rack mount case.

I am looking for a case that has the following items:

8 or more LFF hot-swap bays
2 internal drive bays
2u or 4u would be prefered, noise isn't really a factor
Will fit a full sized standard atx motherboard
Can be used or new, preferably used

Had this board and freenas working, for the most part, for about 3 years now. Yesterday, I shutdown server properly, unplugged and dusted it out with my air compressor. Plugged it back in, powered up for a few seconds, doesn't post, and shuts down. The only way I can get it to power on again is to unplug the power cord and plug back in and it still does the same thing. I reseated the memory, even moved sticks to different slots. Reseated hard drive power and sata cables. Reseated board power...

Quicksync/nvenc use in Plex - OK?

I have a FreeNAS server 11.1u4 with the stock Plex plugin pointed at a couple of Tb of movies. Is it safe/reliable/advisable to use the Intel quicksync or Nvidia nvenc? I chickened out selecting it until checking with the community first.

I just stream movies via the Sony PS4 Plex client to a TV so transcoding should be rare, but nice to know if it can be used.

CPU : Intel® Core™ i7-2600K

GPU : Nvidia Geoforce GTX 750Ti 2Gb

First post, I apologize if I don't have all the information needed but please feel free to let me know what else I might need to provide to troubleshoot.

I am running: FreeNAS-11.1-U4

I demoted a domain controller on Friday and then started getting reports of issues with network drive access issues.  I have limited experience on FreeNAS as it was setup before my time but here is the /var/log/messages that appear:

Hello, i have a WS2016 AD CS/CA and a FreeNAS setup on the same network. I have succesfully gotten the FreeNAS box to join the domain. I wish to use SSL capabilities and encryption with the NAS, so I'd like it to use the ADs Certificate Authority. However, I can find no way to export the CAs public key or certificate information for use in FreeNAS web interface, since FreeNAS lacks the capability to request it electronically. I'm hoping someone knowledgeable with WS might have gone through...

Downgrade Jail

freebsd-version -uk is showing
Code:
11.1-STABLE
11.1-STABLE
for the host.
and
Code:
11.0-RELEASE-p1
for the jail. Somehow I messed this up so that sudo is not found any more. Before I had the message

undefined symbol: memset_s
when calling sudo. My research showed that I have 11.1 packages/ports for a 11.0 release and that is causing my problems. But how can I revert the settings of the jail back to 11.0 again?

Hope someone can help me.

I have two BR10I and 4 x IBM 6 port SAS backplanes. Normaly the backplanes is only one in a server so having two on each HBA is not the normal. I tried using two of these for a 12 disk setup on each card. Problem is that only one of the expanders works at one time. I tested them all individually and the do work. As soon as I connected two to one HBA one of them fails and the disks go offline after access or init. I can see the disks but the will say PD offline once I try to add them in...

Hi,

Had FreeNAS for a while, recently upgraded from an old 9 version to 11 (https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/upgrading-from-9-2-to-11.57923/#post-408551).. but I have a hopefully simple problem persisting.

I have a SMB share set up with 'allow guest access' ticked. All my other devices in the house can access it, except my main PC (windows 10), which always gets asked for a password. All on the same network, can talk to each other, have file sharing turned on and...

Hi

So this is my first post on freenas forums (sorry long one) and i have some trouble with old hardware that i want to try to run Freenas on but i hit a brick wall :/ I work as a sysadmin with Unix/Linux since well a long time and one of the reasons that i opted for Freenas was that i have never used freebsd so a lot of new commands and stuff to learn :) and this was my thoughts to ease in to it...

So about my problem(s)
I have errors with multipathing and CAM status.
All of a sudden one...

Trying to Assign different IP to VM.

Okay Im Really new to the FreeNAS OS so I have set up a Debian VM but It uses the same IP Address as the FreeNAS System. (ie Both OS are using 192.168.1.20) I am Going to use it for an apache server so I can't have it on the Same IP on the network. I saw a couple people saying change to bridge mode but I don't see that option in the networking tab or in the NIC tab for the VM. The VM installed correctly but I just need IP assignments like the jails get..
Sorry if this is a stupid question or...

Hello, i´m running freenas 11.1 and i have installed the Nextcloud plugin, everything is working fine with SSL and security.
My question is, How can i have my whole LIVE freenas data on nextcloud without duplicity of the data on Jail?

Or maybe whats the best way to achieve this? How can I check my freenas from the cloud service (Ex. Nextcloud)?

Really will appreciate the help.

Hi,

When I try to extract files, it won't work

A window pops up telling me that I'm not allowed to do that.

I can copy and remove files without any issue...

A help would be appreciated

This issue has been perplexing me for quite a while, and over several releases of FreeNAS and Windoiws 10. I am currently my configuration as follows:
  • Network is configured with a gateway address of 192.168.0.1, DHCP range of 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.149, and DNS of 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (previously configured for 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
  • FreeNAS-11.1-U4 - SMB share is configured as vaultron, server has fixed IP address of 192.168.0.150 for NAS, 192.168.0.151 for Transmission,...
