Hi,

I wanted to disable completly IPV6 on my freenas but i don't found a solution... I change some paratmeter in /conf/defaults/etc/rc.conf to do persistent but not work...
My problem is what i'm installing openvpn (client) in a jail and he pass to timeout when i asking for a response with ipv6. I didn't found anything to disable in a opvn file... Then I wanted to disable IPV6 for a workaround.
When I add in my jail in /etc/rc.conf some values I found on the net, it were change to initial...

Going crazy with "mount root from" error

No matter what I do, I can not get any version of FreeNAS 8 (RELEASE or any of the betas) to boot after the install.

First, immediately after the install, whether I use a USB stick or actual drive, I get:
GEOM: ada0: the primary GPT is corrupt
GEOM: ada0: using secondary instead -- recovery...

Then, after the reboot, I get the same message, followed by this:

Currently I have 16GB in my setup.

I am also a bit concerned about the temps of my CPU - do they look normal at the max 67 degrees C ?

Updated to 11.2 and now have random reboots

I know it's related to the update since I updated one server and this started to happen.  I waited 4 weeks and updated a second server and now that one is also having random reboots.

Thoughts?  I first thought that it had to do with NTP, but I changed all of the servers I was using and it's still happened, but at a bit slower rating.

I thought it was just something wrong with the one server until I updated the second one and now am having the same issues.

Folks,

I'm planning to upgrade my switch and get one with four 10Gb ports. I only have two servers and one workstation that I'd need the 10Gb speed.

Below some info/brainstorming:
  • The servers are on the same rack and the switch 8 ft away.
  • The servers have X9DRi-LN4F+ motherboard with four 1Gb interfaces
  • All on ESXi VMs, included FreeNAS
  • The 1Gb ports would continue been used as 1Gb for all VMs but FreeNAS
  • Install one 10Gb NIC on each server and my workstation
  • Pass...

Plex DVR “No Write Access” issues

Hi all,

I'm cross posting from the Plex forums because I haven't seen an answer over there yet. I have a Plex server running on separate hardware from my FreeNAS. I can access media from my FreeNAS with Plex just fine via the UI. However, when I try to write to my TVShows directory with the Plex DVR feature, I'm consistently getting a no write access error from Plex.

I've read that if I setup a plex account in FreeNAS with the same UID or add a group with the same GID as my plex group on...

Due to the Intel 1219-V (ethernet) issue I cannot install any stable 11.1. So I am forced to use 11.2 and currently testing out the nightlies so that I can test my system and the latest version. I wanted to at least read thru any issues people are having before I installed it.

Where can I find the discussion regarding 11.2 nightlies?

How to use Openvpn & ipfw in a jail so it only connects to the VPN

I wanted to use Openvpn with my Transmission plugin but didn't want any of my other network traffic to go through the VPN. Additionally, I didn't want Transmission to access the internet except through the VPN. This "how-to" assumes you have a VPN service you're connecting to and have downloaded the config file, certs and user keys.

It was rather easy; here's how:

Once you've installed the Transmission plugin, have the jail running and storage attached, ssh into your jail
Code:
jls

Hi there!

After many years of my system running great, I think I have a dead drive! I believe I set everything up properly initially so I should be able to replace it, but I want to make sure I'm properly diagnosing the issue and looking in the right places.

I see this in the notifications section. That doesn't look good to me. I'm assuming ADA2 is busted. These are just in my notifications, though, so I wanted to dig into the pool a bit. When I go and click...

Incremental replication after moving dataset to new server - is there an editable file?

How do I get FreeNAS GUI to continue incremental zfs replications after moving a data set to a new server?  The GUI wants to start from the beginning and resend the entire dataset.
Perhaps there is a file somewhere that has the most recent snapshot sent that I can manually edit?

Scenario:
old_server, new_server, and backup_server all all FreeNAS 11.1 U6 servers.

I have moved some datasets from old_server to new_server, with the intention of uninstalling FreeNAS from old_server.

Using zfs...

I have a clean install of 11.2-beta3 and zfs setup a clean install with a new usb drive. After 2 clean installs to make sure it wasn't an installation issue my drives aren't listed in storage. However when when go to shell and run camcontrol devlist the drives are listed. How do I get them to show up in storage so that I can import my zfs and get to the data? Thanks in advance for any input that would point me in the right direction.

Running Android x86 on FreeNAS

I'm looking to use a FreeNAS 11.1 box for Android development. I tried to run Android x86 on bhyve but couldn't get it to work, the only mention I found was a bhyve script to live run it on FreeBSD but not actually install it.

I wanted to try running the Android x86 ISO via Virtualbox on the FreeNAS box but it seems that support for that was removed since I looked into it using FreeNAS 9. Is there a way to setup a...

Are there any Linux updates affecting nfs?

Sorry for the general question there and it may be more of an Off-Topic question but my NAS if a FreeNAS system (11.1 U5)...  I have been having problems with my NFS shares: I can only read/execute.  I can no longer write or modify anything. This has only been going on for about 2/3 weeks now. The nfs shares had been working fine over the last 2 months since I started using NFS instead of CIFS.  It seems that all my systems are affected. I am not running nfs on my one, seldom used, windows 7...

umask for Syncthing

I am trying to understand how to go about this, and I have poked around and learned "what I need to do", but I am not sure how to actually accomplish this.

Long story short, I looked into this in the past, thought I would run a Ubuntu vm under ESXi, scrapped that idea for performance reasons, and am back to a jail for Syncthing.

I need to make syncthing write with 770 permissions (at least, I think for now, either way I need a umask as it is currently 755 and I at least need 77x), and I...

Shutdown FreeNas 7 Server when no ping returned from WHS2011 IP address

Hi,

Please forgive my lack of knowledge, I'm a very old "nooby" from the days of "vacuum tubes", trying my best to understand programming and failing miserably!

I have a FreeNas 7 server with all my DVD movies on it, and a Windows Home Server (2011) with all my Blu-rays and music.

The WHS2011 starts up when any client HTPC starts up and shuts down when all clients sleep.
I can get my WHS2011 server to start-up my FreeNas server (by a WOL script during the WHS startup), but for years, I...

Cannot attach USB Drive to Boot Pool

Hi all,

Well - as per title.  Background :

I just (this Friday) started the process to install the 11.1-U6 update on my Backups box.  (Believe it or not, my main box is still on 9.10...haven't gotten around to updating that yet.)  For whatever reason - can't remember - I lost access to the browser that was tracking the update.  When I re-launched and re-logged in via WebGUI, all seemed well, so I rebooted - but it would never complete boot.  I power cycled once or twice via IPMI, and got a...

Plugins_v2 development workflow

Hi guys!

For the past year I more or less managed to create a basic usable environment on my FreeNAS by creating a set of useful (for me of course!) jails.
I even formed them into shell scripts for autodeployment in case of disaster recovery.
Next logical step is to pack them into a more portable and accessible form - which is a plugin.

New plugin system is nice. But, AFAIK, plugins repository is hard-wired to official one.
Which is not only rubs me the wrong way (where is my freedom of...
