It seems like there are lot of guides here on installing Nextcloud, and a number of people reporting problems with many of them.  So, I figured, why not write another one?  This is inspired by the work of @kjake in his scripts to build jails for Unifi and Crashplan, and largely follows the process that @dureal99d documented...

I. Introduction
I have MSI A88XM-E35 with SSD + 4x2TB (Seagate 2TB 64MB SkyHawk) in RAID10. Yesterday i had some problems with visibility of my disks. Randomly sometimes some of them showed up in UEFI, and others not and sometimes others not showed up and sometimes nothing showed up. I had this issue before but i thought it gone. After fiddling arround my computer stopped load UEFI at all. I replaced on of the RAM and finally everything just started to work. I've seen all my disks every...

I'm running some tests on different configurations and am puzzled by some of the results I am getting.

My setup:
IBM x3650 m3 , 2 x5650 cpu, 128GB ram
LSI 9200-8e
2 x Netapp DS4246 with IOM6 (6 gbps)
8 x 4TB Seagate iron wolf in raidz2 sata
1 x samsung evo 850 120GB in stripe sata
Freenas 11.1-U6

test6.out = 42GB file generated with dd if=/dev/random, file is on th 8x4TB raidz2

/mnt/ssd=ssd stripe of samsung 850 evo 120GB

dd if=./test6.out of=/mnt/ssd/test1.dd bs=1024K

FreeNAS with a full-disk encryption

Hello.

I want to install FreeNAS with my own partitioning scheme:

- boot_partition (optional).
- freenas-root -> GELI -> ZFS (mirrored on the second SSD).
- zil_part -> GELI -> ZIL (mirrored on the second SSD).

Is it possible (it's possible with FreeBSD 11, even without separate boot partition) and how to make this?

Good afternoon, FN experts.

My FN box has been running pretty well stable for a few months, and over the last week or so has been rebooting overnight, and sometimes during the day and I don't know why.

Yesterday I upgraded it from 11.1U5 to 11.1U6 (and in the process upgraded the boot USB stick from 2GB to 16GB).  Today I have had two reboots.

Are there any logs somewhere I can interrogate that might help me identify what's causing the reboots?

Plex Cannot Find Server

Hey!

Currently on a FreeNAS 11.2 RC1

Got a weird problem with the Plex server plugin in that it can't find a Plex server, despite itself being one. Any idea on how to fix that? Tried reinstalling the plugin / checking mounts and perusing previous forum threads with other people having the same problem, but it's either a rare issue, since I found little to no prior conversation, or one that's pretty impossible to diagnose.

11.2 RC2, Nextcloud plugin fixed?

In 11.2 RC2 the Nextcloud plugin should be fixed...
After installing the Nextcloud (v14) plugin in FreeNAS 11.2 RC2 there is a pop-up with some credentials (without indication what to do with it...) ... after that you end up in the GUI of Nextcloud where you are asked to make a admin-account.

There seems to be made a data directorie:
/usr/local/www/nextcloud/data

Under that you are asked to fill in:
userdatabase
database password
database name
localhost

Should I fill in the data...

Okey, so usually my Dell T20 at home is a storage for home movies, pictures and documents.
For the past week i have been running ddrescue trying to salvage data off a friends collection of crumbling disks.

I'm doing this on my workstation running Ubuntu and I created a dataset for it with gzip compression and shared it with NFS from FreeNAS 11.2 - RC2. This works like a charm as the bottleneck is the broken disk being read and NFS otherwise easily saturates my 1GbE interface....

Help me understand "used"

Replacing drive in mirror with smaller one

I have a boot zfspool with 3 mirrored devices. 2 16GB usb drives and one old 128GB SSD.

Unfortunately the SSD just died so I wanted to replace it with another 16GB USB drive (the exact same type of the other already mirrored 2)
But when I try to replace it (in the WebGUI) I get an error that the drive is too small.
Do I need a drive wich is 128GB big? Even if the others are only 16GB?

If so, can I remove the (already removed) SSD from the pool for good and add another 16GB usb mirror?...

Nextcloud plugin/jail disappeared!

Hi,

I am om FreeNAS 11-2 RC2.
I had Nextcloud installed as a plug-in and it was working fine. Today I wanted to access it and it wasn’t on the list of installed jails. On the list of installed plugins I got a index error from the interface.
On the terminal I see this when I run jls:

I can run a shell on the jail via jexec, but can’t access nextcloud’s interface. Can’t...

Setup:
I've been running this particular FreeNAS 9.10 for a few years now as a production iSCSI for my ESXi cluster.  It currently runs on a Dell PowerEdge R310 with two Compellent storage arrays, filled with a total of 48 x 146 GB 15k RPM SAS drives in RAID 10 configuration.

I setup a SLOG and L2ARC and filled up the RAM to the max the R310 can hold of ECC RAM, 48 GB.

I've been keeping it updated and now it is at 9.10.2-U6 and will stay there now until I buy new hardware to...

I think my FreeNAS 9.10.2-U6 is no longer using my L2ARC

I am beating my head against the wall here and could use some help. I have two separate FreeNAS servers running FreeNAS-9.10.2-U3 (e1497f269) with hardware as listed in my sig, but here are the basics:

Missing space in zpool

Hi,
I have FreeNAS setup since a long time with the bellow setting. I have noticed recently that my free space is almost gone, but I do not see where the free space is being utilized. From 13TB I am using in my files less than 2TB, how come it shows 656GB free? I tried to check from SSH but nothing is obvious to me there. Any help will be appreciated.

Extend Volume from the same disk

Evening Folks,

Please don't hate on me to much I'm really new at this. How on earth do I extend a volume from the same disk?

So long volume was running out of space so I gave the disk more space using VMware and rebooted my FreeNAS box.

FreeNAS can now see the extra space that belongs to the disk however I can't figure out however to extend volume 1 into it.

Any help will be appreciated.

iPerf and DD tests

I am having a bit of hard time understanding the different between both. As far as I know, iPerf will test the total throughput of the network while dd will test write/read performance. I am mainly interested in knowing the performance of my FreeNAS host while serving SMB/NFS shares and research has led me to these tools.

My iPerf results:
