Ombi secure remote access from a domain?

I was looking in to a way to make this happen with a free domain hosting provider. This is the first time I've dealt with web domain hosting and I have some major questions. To get what I think I know out of the way, here's how I envision this happening:
  1. Server PC hosts Ombi jail
  2. NGINX jail takes Ombi and adds SSL
  3. Router does port forwarding for NGINX jail
  4. Cloudflare takes the forwarded port and sends it to a dot.tk domain (since it's free and I've heard it supports SSL)...

I. Introduction
I have MSI A88XM-E35 with SSD + 4x2TB (Seagate 2TB 64MB SkyHawk) in RAID10. Yesterday i had some problems with visibility of my disks. Randomly sometimes some of them showed up in UEFI, and others not and sometimes others not showed up and sometimes nothing showed up. I had this issue before but i thought it gone. Is openVPN a standalone VPN or a tool for freeNAS to connect to VPN?

I assume there's no free lunch with VPNs,
that one must pay a VPN provider for use.

I wanted to enable remote SSH and Plex use and
it's been recommended that I setup a VPN.

This is not something that freeNAS handles on its own, correct?

About 18 months ago I built a server and installed freenas. Thats as fare as I got before realizing I was in over my head. The system has been sitting un-used sense. There is absolutely nothing stored on it.
The plan was to use it for my personal media storage and with plex.

I’m looking for someone in the Phoenix area to get everything set up and running. Is there a recourse for finding professionals experienced with freenas by location?

Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Hi All,

Great work on FreeNAS 11.2 RC1 and the Windows AD integration!  

Info :
I have Windows server 2003 with the same old schema with trusts, old baggage and it works amazingly fine.

Issue 1:
When I try to "Change Permissions" on the dataset I first saw a few domain usernames, so I typed in "Administrator" and now I cannot get a list of local users or domain groups.  In one of the example video's it showed AD/%username% and all I see is a few %username% objects in the list( Lawrence...

New Setup FREE NAS

New to Free NAS, I have a small network with 12 users with a windows 2008R2 Domain. I am having a problem joining my domain, essentially free NAS can't seem to find the domain controller. I have double checked our DNS as correct, my local pcs can ping and resolve our domain controller but FNAS cannot. In FNAS i have my domain controller listed as the 1st name server in the global setup but when I look at network summary it shows 1st Nameserver as local 127.0.0.1.. FNAS can ping IP addresses...

samba config missing on current nightly

Hi I upgraded from an older nightly to the current one which is:

I noticed that smb is not started after reboot. I tried starting it by hand in the new UI but it is not starting.

So I tried

service samba_server start

which gets me

/usr/local/etc/rc.d/samba_server: WARNING: /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf is not readable.

The reason for this is that it's not there any more.

So where is it or how do I create it?

Hello everyone,

I'm posting here in hope to get a better understanding of how FreeNAS works especially when it comes to NFS shares and ZFS.

I'm currently hosting a /data folder for an application via an NFS share on a QNAP. Last week we had a disk failure and given the age of the device, I don't trust it to last very long. Over the week-end I migrated the data over an NFS share on our FreeNAS box (9.10.2... but we'll upgrade soon™) and the first thing I did after the transfer...

installing kiconvtool

I want to mount smb shares inside the jails. However, mount_smbfs requires root privileges to run filename encoding conversion. I need UTF-8 encoding support. kiconvtool loads specific charset tables into kernel.

I found that kiconvtool is listed in the iocages ports but I cannot find it in the base pkg repository.

How do I install it?

Hi all, I'm trying to install FreeNAS-11.1-U6 on an old Packard Bell imedia S2100 (processor AMD E-1 4 GB RAM 1 TB SATA disk). I know this is not an hardware good for FreeNAS (I will chnage it for a production system). I would like to try out FreeNAS before to put it in production. I've copied FreeNAS-11.1-U6.iso on a USB stick and tried to boot from it. When I see the list of the bootable devices I see (among the others):

Extend Volume from the same disk

Evening Folks,

Please don't hate on me to much I'm really new at this. How on earth do I extend a volume from the same disk?

So long volume was running out of space so I gave the disk more space using VMware and rebooted my FreeNAS box.

FreeNAS can now see the extra space that belongs to the disk however I can't figure out however to extend volume 1 into it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Plex Cannot Find Server

Hey!

Currently on a FreeNAS 11.2 RC1

Got a weird problem with the Plex server plugin in that it can't find a Plex server, despite itself being one. Any idea on how to fix that? Tried reinstalling the plugin / checking mounts and perusing previous forum threads with other people having the same problem, but it's either a rare issue, since I found little to no prior conversation, or one that's pretty impossible to diagnose.

iPerf and DD tests

I am having a bit of hard time understanding the different between both. As far as I know, iPerf will test the total throughput of the network while dd will test write/read performance. I am mainly interested in knowing the performance of my FreeNAS host while serving SMB/NFS shares and research has led me to these tools.

Using BBCP to improve FreeNAS 11 Replication

Hello,

As a long time user of FreeNAS replication we have always had a few issues with it.

1. Only replicates one job at a time.
2. Slow over WAN links with > 15ms latency

We have been using Solaris or FreeBSD with zrep/bbcp to overcome these issue on other installations. The logical thing to do was to port these changes across to FreeNAS.

At this stage I have this running on a few installs and it is fine. I hope that FreeNAS Dev team will implement these changes as a gui option :) If...
