I have two ESXi hosts, both running FreeNAS-11.1-U6, with bulk storage as follows:  (1) ESXi-01 has 12 x WDC WD100EMAZ - 10TB (2) ESXi-02 HGST Deskstar NAS HDD - 6TB [raidz2 6x2].  Both hosts have 2 x Optane 900p - 280GB, with 1 of those drives used for ESXi boot + Local Datastore and the other dedicated to FreeNAS, i.e. FreeNAS boot + 2 x 16 GB vDisks ("Opt1log1" & "Opt1log2" as mirrored SLOG).  Note:  I can't pass through the Optane 900p as the workaround doesn't work for me (possibly...

Freenas vs Backblaze in long term

Now that Black Friday is on us, I wonder if I should buy more HDD or start using BackBlaze. This is my situation: I'm backing up two Macs with 500GB disks on each on time machine to a 4TB NAS. There are about 1TB of long-term archives, very infrequently accessed. My bad is that the NAS has a single drive. I see three options:

1. Do nothing. It will risk losing my long-term archives. Mac TM backups considered ephemeral. Cost is $0.
2. Beef up NAS to proper redundancy with 2 more 4TB HDD. Do...

Hello there,

I'm just rambling here, but maybe someone finds this useful: I just decided on what number of hdds to buy. I have crawled the interwebs searching for the definitive answer to the optimal raidz setup and number of disks I thought I'd share my conclusion, and the whys.

Bouncing a thought off the wall ...

I have two ESXi hosts and lets say one is primary and the other secondary, with the later being primarily used to have an on-site backup of the primary (not precisely the case, but for the sake of this thread) ...

Is it possible to to do something like this on a daily basis?

read performance decrease when creating zpool through UI

Hello all, tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything related to this particular issue. Was hoping someone would have some insight. I've noticed that when I create a zpool via the FreeNAS UI I see much worse read performance than when creating it from the command line with the zpool command. The zpool itself is two raidz vdevs (4 disks each) striped and they are configured similarly through the UI and with the zpool command. The disks are 10GB WD drives and there are eight total....

radarr does not rename files/folders with video codec type

Hi all,
Thank you in advance for your support.
I used the web GUI in freenas 11.2 to install the plugins for radarr, sonarr and transmission. I seem to have everything working fine for all 3 except that for some reason radarr does not add the video codec to the file or folder name when using the rename feature, with any of the {MediaInfo ....} options such as attached photo. It doesnt work for existing movies that I imported or for new movies obtained through radarr. See example of renaming...

Encryption Problem

Hello, I need to import a volume into 11.2 RC2 from 11.1 U3. The volume was encrypted but after adding a new drive I had hot yet rekeyed it when the usb holding freenas failed.  Now freenas can see the encrypted volume and I need to know If I can get into it because it had not been re-keyed.

HP SSD Degraded Out Of Box

I got an HP SSD to replace some USB thumb drives that were degrading.  Out of the box it starts degrading my boot volume .  I purchased this one from NewEgg thinking it was fairly respectable brand. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820326780 It lists a Marvell 88NV1120 controller which I can't find much info on for support.  Did I get a faulty drive or is there a compatibility issue with this controller?

I get a zpool I/O error on my RocketRaid volume which are 4 Samsung EcoGreen 1,5TB disks on my Highpoint RocketRAID 2310.

Hi guys,

i have made a fresh install of FreeNas in Version 11.2RC2.
Is there a chance to install any Plugins on this Version ?

I have tested the Plex and NextCloud Plugin, this are the 2 plugins i needed. But there is the same Error on both Plugins when i try to install it.

Hi,

I am having trouble getting openvpn working in 11.2.
It was running in 11.1, but after the upgrade - it stopped, and now I cannot reinstall it again.

This is a guide I am trying to put together (from many different sources), if I should need to do it once again - and hopefully after I have this working - it will also be shared here.

Step 1:
Create new jail:
openvpn
IP: xx.xx.xx.xx
LAGG0
Select "Autostart"

Step 2:
Add mount point:

like the title states, ist the Plugin gone for RC-1 or simply not officially available yet? If so, any hints where I can get informed about the official development of the NetCloud Plugin?
Also the new updated doc doesn't say anything about nextcloud.

9211-8i Card actually saturated

Doing badblocks test on 3 6TB drives while scrubbing 12 drives all seems to actually saturate the SAS channel :)  Scrub started at midnight and ran at ~1.4G/s.

The other 2 drives that are also doing badblocks and are connected to a different SAS card were slightly affected.  Wonder what that is - CPU?

I have a volume on my FreeNAS that I am rsync over SSH & VPN to a remote Synology. The Synology has a copy of the data already (minus a few new items on the FreeNAS). After much trouble getting SSH keys straight I am finally seeing rsync running. Unfortunately it is taking way too long so I looked at the log and I'm seeing this:

I'm planning my first FreeNAS build, for professional use, as a replacement for my current internal hardware RAID (8 x 3 TB in RAID10).
Working in the video post-production industry, my needs lean towards quite large volume (30-40GB), many high speed sequential reads, and few high speed sequential writes.

Reversing Replication

I have setup a new box and replication to transfer the data.
Now i want to make the new box the primary one.
in order to have still the old as updated Fallback version, can i simply disable snapshots an replication on the old and setup on th new with direction to the old?
