Hi guys,

I have an issue with smartd and I can't seem to find the solution myself so I am asking here.

I am running FreeNAS 11.2 Release
4x 4TB Seagate IronWolf

My issue is that after setting the critical hdd temperature in Services > SMART to a value which is lower than the current hdd temperature, I am not getting any email alerts or any alerts on the FreeNAS dashboard about the temperature being to high.

However looking at /var/log/daemon.log

Code:

Trouble with web UI after tinkering

Short:
Guessing: Freenas is assigning a jail ( vBox ) to the same IP address as the web ui. Once the jails start to load on reboot I can not longer access freenas webui.

What happened?:
-Started off on freenas 11.0 and upgraded to 11.2 ran that for a couple of days and figured it was stable.
-Change my motherboard settings to enable VT-x for docker. and updated IMPI firmware.
-Reboot
-Freenas loads, web ui starts then suddenly becomes unresponsive(pretty much only have time to log in...

Reaction to revisit of old ideas

I have recently been reading a blog that is about 18 years old and I see so many points in it that are still applicable today. For example, this post from April of 2000:
https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/19/where-do-these-people-get-their-unoriginal-ideas/

The place I work has just remodeled one of the work-spaces to eliminate a few of the open cubicles so they can add twelve new offices around the perimeter of the space that have doors but leaving a sixteen open cubicles...

This is a follow up highly inspired (copy/paste) of the excellent guide from joeschmuck to install minidlna in FreeNAS prior to 11.2.

https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...inidlna-on-freenas-9-3-prior-to-plugin.25395/

This guide uses FreeNAS new UI 11.2 beta 2 with iocage jails.

What is MiniDLNA ?
MiniDLNA is server software with the aim of being fully compliant with DLNA/UPnP-AV clients.

Upgrading from 8.3 to 11.2 - Best approach?

I'm new to the forums here and not overly technical, so please pardon my rather simple question and I'd kindly request less technical answers please.

I have a basic FreeNAS server box I built in 2011 that has 5x2TB drives on ZFS RAID (I think RAID0) currently running FreeNAS 8.3. Due to SMBv1, I can no longer access my shared volume and need to upgrade. The setup is pretty simple and I only use the NAS locally in my home, so not a big deal to lose my config (I'm guessing??)

What's the...

Panic When Resilvering after Replacing Disk

I sm in the process of replacing the drives on one vdev of a 4 X raidz-2 pool. The first two drives went fine. On the third drive, very roughly 20 minutes into the resilver process, the system panics and reboots and attempts to resilver from the beginning. I have tried changing the destination drive to a fresh HD as well as removing the original disk. I have not been able to get the resilver to complete and the current state is degraded.

I've never seen a panic on FreeBSD before and I don't...

SMB Share performance went downhill fast

I have 4 separate SMB shares on my freenas box. They have been working great with ZERO issues until last week. (no changes to freenas had been done)
3 shares continue to work great, 1 is being a pain. via windows explorer, I can browse through the share in question, sometimes it workes without issue, until i try to delete something.....then it sits until it eventually times out.
I have a program that does file backups and writes to the same share....some of the backups works fine, the...

Cannot create snapshot - out of space

FreeNAS 11.2-RELEASE
Issue: After creating a new iSCSI zvol on a newly built system, I created periodic snapshots every 15 minutes. This worked fine for the first 12 hours, then I started getting out of space alerts. There is plenty of available space on the zVol. Note: the zVol is set to 80% of the pool. There is still plenty of space left within the zvol, nearly 50%.

Any idea why I can't create snapshots now? I don't even know where to look. I deleted all existing snapshots and...

iocage - install Debian in jail on FreeBSD?

$

I read the iocage docs, they say that you can install Linux aka Debian in the jail on FreeBSD.
They link to this article http://devil-detail.blogspot.dk/2013/08/debian-linux-freebsd-jail-zfs.html
how ever it seems a bit over the edge to do all that, since we can't install on host FreeNAS, so I was wondering if anyone has successfully installed Debian or other Linux in jail in iocage?
or can guide or tell me that it will work, using that guide ?

No Write Access to Freenas iocage

Recently added a tuner for the DVR functionality of Plex and have discovered my Plex instance has no write access to the folder structure. I have searched and seen this issue come up a few times, but I frankly am struggling on implementing a fix. I see the most common fix comes in the form of creating a 'plex' user account in freenas to give permissions, but short of making that user and trying to replace the 'root' user with 'plex' in the jail settings where I see and changing owner of that...

Conversion from OpenFiler to FreeNAS

Looking to convert our very large, but outdated Openfiler system to FreeNAS. Given the specifications below (we purchased this custom server between 2014/2015), can I install FreeNAS? Any suggestions to change the system to make it operate faster and more efficiently? The SMB1 configuration and Openfiler in general is making me regret investing in this large capacity NAS. My hope is that an OS migration will fix a lot of the failings of the current system.

32GB USB as Install Disk Fails?

Since 11.2 release, I've tried to image the ISO to a 32GB USB flash drive from Win 7 on 4 drives, from 2 systems, using 3 different imagewriters (Win32DiskImager, Windows USB/DVD Tool, & Etcher) & Win 7 blue screens on creation every time or any time the disk is inserted after imaging. I didn't have any smaller flash drives to try (on the way) but assume Win 7 does not like the image file structure on such a large disk. On earlier releases (e.g., 11.1) I used smaller disks (4-8 GB) without...

Hello!

I've searched and read everything AFP related in the forum and couldn't find a solution to my problem...
Currently running FreeNAS-9.2.1.6-RELEASE-x64 (ddd1e39) on the following hardware:

Intel Pentium CPU G2020 @ 2.90GHz
Supermicro X9SCM-F
16GB RAM DDR3 1.333Mhz
2 x 1TB WD Red

I'm new to FreeNAS but had no problems installing and configuring everything but the AFP shares.
It works using CIFS, but as we only have Macs I don't want to use it and the speed wasn't good either!

unraid disks and retain data

My parents have a FreeNAS server that was built for them. The system has gone to crap. I cannot boot from USB, if I try to do transfer from it the system crashes, if I do a du - sh (from a shell via the web or SSH) it freezes. I don't have time to try to figure out what is wrong and I am not experienced with FreeNAS.

My hope is I could some how "unraid" the disks in it and retain data on specific disks so I could just unplug the disks and plug them into another computer I have...

FreeNAS 11.2-RELEASE has arrived!

Today I am pleased to announce that FreeNAS 11.2-RELEASE is now available! While this is a point-release from 11.1 to 11.2, it’s actually much, much more than that -- it is indeed a MAJOR release. FreeNAS 11.2 marks the culmination of a nearly 18-month development cycle, completely overhauling the existing legacy FreeNAS API and user interface subsystems. In 11.2 we are pleased to make available our new 100% API-driven...

Updating iocage jail release

I originally installed FreeNAS 11.2 BETA2, and have since upgraded to BETA3 and RC1. However, my jails are still showing a release of "11.2-RELEASE-p2". I have seen in some other threads people talking about "11.2-RELEASE-p4". Do I need to update my release? If so, how is this done? Am I safe to update the release of an existing jail, or would I need to create a new jail if I wanted to take advantage of something in the new release?

Uptime chart not persisting through reboots

$

I've noticed something that may be a bug, or maybe not - When I go to 'reporting' > 'system', and look at the 'uptime' chart, as of now, every line shows 69 days, 5 hours 57 minutes, except for the 'average' line which shows 69 days, 5 hours 29 minutes, and the 'Total Run', which shows 57 minutes. All of these values reset on every reboot. I would expect the 'Current' line to reset every reboot, but I would also expect the other lines to not reset - so maximum should read the longest the...
