Hello from suburban Chicago area

I am now working for a small consulting company after 36 years at a large corporation, I miss having a dedicated IT department to run everything. Now by default I am IT along with my regular duties. Need to replace an aging server (running ARCH Linux) with about 4T of data with a new one, and need to have space for an additional 12T of data sitting in cold storage. Decided I wanted to go with a more manageable user friendly system, so I chose FreeNAS. So far it is looking good, but I...

Lost pool after config reset

Hi all,

Solo pool of a mirrored pair has been running for a little over a month now with no issues on 11.2-U1

Reset config to defaults, as expected needed to remount pools. No other config changes were actually made past making a user and SMB share.

When I try to do so via GUI (Storage -> Pools -> Add -> Import an existing pool etc). Drive is not encrypted. When I get to select the pool it is not in the list.

Spec: E3-1220v6, 8GB ECC, BCM5720 NIC, two mirrored WD 4TB. Specifically this...

Best way to run Ombi V3 beta

FreeBSD is currently not supported on .Net Core. What is the best approach to run V3 on FreeNAS. Should I make a linux VM machine or Rancheros VM or some other way? Are there going to be any performance issues I should worry about?

I'm trying to install Plex Media Server and I'm getting this error

Old PC Case for more HDD Storage

Hi All, after adding my 6th HDD to my Home setup Freenas - I'm now running out of room and gotten to thinking, could I utillise an old PC Case and Power Supply I have hanging around to Power some other Sata HDD's as an External HDD Chassis? I can then route the data SATA cables back to the base Freenas (would have its own dedicated SATA controller in there). This could then give me some storage expansion?

I appreciate I would have to modify the Power Supply switching in the External PC Case...

NFS inode count differs from ZFS

So, I've noticed an interesting behavior. My FreeNAS reports a huge number of inodes (~4B) for one of my filesystems, but my NFS client shows a much smaller number. At one point yesterday a tool that I'm using reported that the filesystem had 100% of it's inodes used. That appeared to be a transient issue as the number of available inodes reported when I checked are shown below.

The number of available inodes as reported by FreeNAS is larger and 2^32, and seems a bit arbitrary since the...

Hi, i want to build a freenas system soon, but im not sure which hardware i should use. I want to build a system with 12 hdds (6x raidz2 and i want to add another 6x raidz2 later) with 4-6 tb capacity, so i need a system where i can upgrade the ram later. I've heard the pentium g4500 is a good cpu to use, but im not sure if it would be powerfull enough.

Current PlexPass Version Installed = 1.13.9.5439

Current FreshPorts PlexPass Version Available = 1.15.1.791_1

Yes, I know I am on the new platform and should be migrating to IOCage but I'm not 100% comfortable doing so and can't afford a mis-step when it comes to the library of 20tb I've spent years building.

My main concern is just getting Plex to upgrade. When I do the "pkg upgrade" command I get the following response:

FreeNAS-11.1-U7 - Plex Not Updating (Shell Method)

I've been manually updating my Plex installation for a long time, using the below steps, up until now without any issues.
But for some reason this no longer works. Shell claims I'm already on the latest version, but Plex itself is asking me to update to the latest version.
  1. jls
  2. jexec 1 csh (replace 1 with whatever jail number you have!)
  3. fetch -o PMS_Updater.sh https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mstinaff/PMS_Updater/master/PMS_Updater.sh
  4. chmod 755 PMS_Updater.sh...

Help with network settings

I had some problems with plex, so I decided to reinstall it. While trying to do so, I noticed that the plugins list is not loading, and after some time I also discovered that I can't check for updates. I don't know much about networking so any help is appreciated. I initially had some dns issues, but I think that is fixed now since I can ping google.

Here is what I get when I try to check for updates:
Code:

SMB Permissions - Out of Ideas

I've watched two 15-minute videos, I've read post after post on these forums, I think I've turned on and off every possible thing I can think of, and I cannot figure out this issue. I have several SMB shares in my only pool, and in general they're working. I can write files to the SMB shares, and I can copy files off of them. But in my "Pictures" share, when trying to move files around, I'm hitting a roadblock. Example: I have a folder "100CANON" that I want to change to "2009 Pictures"...

I'm having an issue where I can't mount a share in one of my jails.

I'm getting the following error:

I'm not sure why it would say the file name is too long since it's the exact file I was mounting when I had 11.1...

Running iSCSI Happily But Need To Connect Mac OS X

Hey everyone,

I am happily running iSCSI off my FreeNAS to my own Windows and Linux boxes.

I'm trying to let a user with a Macbook running the latest version of OS X connect to this iSCSI share. I googled "mac os x iscsi" and found some very outdated info so i am asking here now.

Will an initiator be required on that Macbook? If it's not fairly straightforward to set up, would i be better off setting up an AFP share to the same location the iSCSI drives are at? I haven't used a Mac since...

Hi All,

Been reading the forums for a while now. Just starting to build a FreeNAS box, and have a few questions that don't seem to pop up in the search easily, so I guess it's time to register.

Anyway, to Start - Will it FreeNAS? (I Hope so!)

i3-6300 (Hopefully low Power)
Two 16Gb DDR4-2400 ECC RAM (Maybe two more??? Is more data cache a bad thing?)
Four 4Tb WD RED NAS Drives (Maybe two more also??? see Below)

I am trying to migrate a Plex warden jail to a new iocage based PlexPass server. I can't get jails to work in FreeNAS-11.2-STABLE. I am seeing dozens of FreeNAS users with similar issues over the past 3 weeks. I've noticed many of these issues began after the upgrade to FreeNAS-11.2. Can we get some attention from some of our FreeNAS super users out there? I have looked at permissions, networking (DHCP vs VNET), upgrade trains, plugin vs cli installations, dataset configurations, etc and I'm...

iocage jails in VLANs

Using 11.2 and trying to build iocage jails in their own VLANs. I'm trying to stay on the new GUI path as much as possible.

The primary interface is lagg0. There's a VLAN interface, vlan20, with lagg0 as it's parent. The new jail is set for DHCP.

iocage start foo fails because it couldn't obtain a DHCP address. It then auto-stops the jail, leaking the interfaces it creates <https://github.com/iocage/iocage/issues/757>.

I've gathered tcpdumps from the firewall (DHCP Server), on...
