Crossflash Dell H200E to LSI 9200-8e

I purchased Dell PERC H200E 12DNW from ebay and I was trying to crossflash it to 9200-8e IT mode. It seems that it is not as easy as it is to crossflash M1015. However I found out the correct order. If someone else is considering using this card (or H200) in Freenas, this might help.

To make this to work you need (links are for 9200-8e card):

NFS inode count differs from ZFS

So, I've noticed an interesting behavior. My FreeNAS reports a huge number of inodes (~4B) for one of my filesystems, but my NFS client shows a much smaller number. At one point yesterday a tool that I'm using reported that the filesystem had 100% of it's inodes used. That appeared to be a transient issue as the number of available inodes reported when I checked are shown below.

Hey, long time since I've been on the Forum now,
mostly anything I do with FreeNAS is working perfect :D

However, I have did now hit a strange bug.

The setup is an temp production server.
We needed some speed, and quick storage before January.

The FreeNAS is part of an Active Directory, and the join is ok.
DNS is setup right, NTP is verified, and domain users can login to...

Trouble creating multiple vnet interfaces in jail

jails are allowed up to 4 vnet interfaces, I add the vnetX:bridgeX comma separated values for the two additional nic's, appended to my default vnet0:bridge0 but only my default gets created in freenas, only the single epair in jail. I have added the mac addresses required for 2nd and 3rd nic's but still they do not get created. Is there a piece I am missing ? I finally got vlans working to my vm by creating the bridges and adding members for vlan and tap to proper bridge after separating...

Disk replacement issue

Hi all,

I recently had drive in my raid-z fail completely (drive will not even power up). I replaced the drive and in my zpool status, the drive shows up as ada2 instead of gptid.8d...

Is there a way to fix this? Does it need to be fixed? I have found conflicting information via google as to whether or not this situation can cause problems.

Lost pool after config reset

Hi all,

Solo pool of a mirrored pair has been running for a little over a month now with no issues on 11.2-U1

Reset config to defaults, as expected needed to remount pools. No other config changes were actually made past making a user and SMB share.

When I try to do so via GUI (Storage -> Pools -> Add -> Import an existing pool etc). Drive is not encrypted. When I get to select the pool it is not in the list.

Spec: E3-1220v6, 8GB ECC, BCM5720 NIC, two mirrored WD 4TB. Specifically this...

jackett jail, service keeps stopping

I have installed jackett using the repository and have ran into issues where the service will just stop after 30 - 60 minutes. Everything runs fine when i start up the service up again however. The service starts automatically when the jail starts.

I am not sure how to fix this, any suggestions how to diagnose and fix?

A few days ago I got an email alert from FreeNAS stating that one of the drives SMART tests could not be read. I stupidly just restarted the server hoping it would clear (which it did temporarily). Anyway, that night I was watching Plex before I fell asleep and everything was working fine. The next morning I tried to access Plex but the server was down. Email configuration

Hi.
I'm trying to reconfigure email notifications on FreeNAS 11.2.
I'm moving from gmail to another provider (net-c). (works well with gmail)
I followed the guides etc, my configuration looks right.
ssl and authentication is enabled with the correct values.

However, I get error 334 each time. My provider only authorized AUTH LOGIN.
Apparently, it doesn't work with freenas.
I got it working in my nextcloud jail right away, but it provides configuration of the auth type in the interface...

Very Slow Disk Performance

Trying FreeNAS for first time. Built low end system (just a bit better hardware than low end Synology that can be a plex server) using ASRock J4105-ITX and 16G of ram. I have two 4TB HGSTs in a mirror with my Plex media dataset. I have a cheap WD SSD for my jails. Took a bit of study and youtube, but have plex installed and running fine. I'm using NFS between it and my Ubuntu Mate 18.04 build. I have the media folder mounted and am able to copy things to and from the FreeNAS fine...

Hardware for freenas build?

Hi, i want to build a freenas system soon, but im not sure which hardware i should use. I want to build a system with 12 hdds (6x raidz2 and i want to add another 6x raidz2 later) with 4-6 tb capacity, so i need a system where i can upgrade the ram later. I've heard the pentium g4500 is a good cpu to use, but im not sure if it would be powerfull enough.

ich will die Kapazität von meinem freenas vergrössern.
Er ist mit 8 WD 4TB WD40EZRX bestückt im RAIDZ2 Verbund (kein 24 Std Betrieb).
Die Platten hängen an Asrock C2750D4I SATA Ports in einem Silverstone DS380 Gehäuse.

Ursprünglich wolte ich die 4 TB Platten mit 8 TB Platten zu ersetzen. Nun sind mir aber 8 TB
Platten zu teuer. So habe ich mir etwas anderes überlegt und hierzu bräuchte ich Ratschläge;
vielleicht gibt es jemanden der so etwas schon gemacht hat.

Pool problems

Hi

i lost my pool and can't get it back
i have a pool 8 X 3 TB discs
one minute it was ok and i was using the Pool 1 hour later it said degraded and then after another 30 minutes it just dissapeared.
I updated Freenas from one 11.2 to the latest 11.2 one day earlier.

today i reinstalled it from scratch and tried to import again but it still do not work.
i am using 3 lsi 9207-8i to controll my discs it that is important

i have looked in the forums for similar problems but none of the clues...

I've just got 2 new fans (Corsair ML120 Pro Fans) and have decided to plug them into my SuperMicro X10SL7-F but they keep ramping up and down every 7 seconds and it's rather loud (see video). I have come across this thread:

So I've followed the excellent forum posts here about setting up and configuring FreeNas. I'm running it on a VM on Esxi host (Yes, I passed through the HBA controllers, and followed all the safety precautions). That part works wonderfully.

When I created an NFS share on my FreeNas 11.2 box, I mounted that share on my Esxi host, successfully, then went to use it for VM storage, and after a short time of read/writes to the vm it would lock up, and the nfs mount would become non-responsive...

Hi

i decided to rebuild my Supermicro build so i can actually have in the house.

the way forward is silent but also cool
these 2 things do not go hand in hand though :-(

I have 2 main questions

1: CPU cooler vertical or horizontal

2: push in air from the top or suck it out ?

i am going to install fans in the lid to either push in or suck our air or both.

i am thinking about cutting 2 holes center above the CPU coolers and then use a duct to get cool air to the CPU and then have...

Good morning all. This is my first post here.

So I bought a Lenovo Thinkserver TS150, basic config (8GB RAM), running two 8TB mirrored HDs. Current version (latest stable).

The thing is, after a while without use (sometimes at the end of the day, sometimes early in the morning) my FreeNAS box will look like it went to sleep.

No computer will be able to access the shares, I can't ssh into it, and sometimes my Mikrotik router will show in the "DNS Server" page that there is no IP assigned...

FreeNAS disappears like it went to sleep
