mail settings question

Hi,

i have set up mail in the System->Email tab
and added alert System->Alert Services

and successfully received an mail (pressing set email,send test alert)

do i need to set something else? or that's it ?

SMB shares show even if user doesn't have permission

I've created datasets in a pool that have permissions set only giving certain groups to each dataset. Then, I've created Windows shares that each have their path set to each dataset created.

When users connect to the NAS either in Windows or in MacOS, Windows Explorer / Mac Finder both show shares that the user doesn't have access to. When the user double-clicks to try to access them, they cannot and the system indicates they don't have permission, which of course is correct.

Not sure I'm missing a step here. I can see the new drive under View Disks. But when I try to use the replace under Volume Status, the new drive is not in the drop down.
Do I need to take the drive to copy offline?

Zoneminder Plugin - event videos corrupted or not properly created

I have successfully loaded the ZM plugin, put my events directory on a separate volume and everything seems to work. Events are created and all owned by www. I can monitor 2 cameras and they appear to capture events and all, I get a jpg and an mp4 for each event.

If I go through the UI and select an event, the video will not play and the video has text stating that "The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported."

FreeNAS-11.1-U7 - Plex Not Updating (Shell Method)

I've been manually updating my Plex installation for a long time, using the below steps, up until now without any issues.
But for some reason this no longer works. Shell claims I'm already on the latest version, but Plex itself is asking me to update to the latest version.
  1. jls
  2. jexec 1 csh (replace 1 with whatever jail number you have!)
  3. fetch -o PMS_Updater.sh https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mstinaff/PMS_Updater/master/PMS_Updater.sh
  4. chmod 755 PMS_Updater.sh...

I am still trying to figure out what type of system that I want to build.

I have been lurking on the forum for awhile soaking up information, and processing it.

I have some questions about something like this:

ich will die Kapazität von meinem freenas vergrössern.
Er ist mit 8 WD 4TB WD40EZRX bestückt im RAIDZ2 Verbund (kein 24 Std Betrieb).
Die Platten hängen an Asrock C2750D4I SATA Ports in einem Silverstone DS380 Gehäuse.

Ursprünglich wolte ich die 4 TB Platten mit 8 TB Platten zu ersetzen. Nun sind mir aber 8 TB
Platten zu teuer. So habe ich mir etwas anderes überlegt und hierzu bräuchte ich Ratschläge;
vielleicht gibt es jemanden der so etwas schon gemacht hat.

Intrigued by a suggestion from @garm, I'm trying to set up an Odroid HC2 as a replication target for FreeNAS. The HC2 is a single-board computer with a SATA interface, mounted to a heatsink that'll easily hold a 3.5" HDD. It runs Linux (among other things, though not FreeBSD) and should make for a handy, low-power, low-price storage brick.

I've pulled the trigger on a "demo pre-order" of 2 WiFi 6 (11ax) APs, 2x2, and one 8-port PoE switch. In my case, for home use. Came to $330 with shipping; would have been $110 less without the switch. Once it ships, I have 30 days to return it, should it not live up to its promise.

I thought it was a good enough deal to pass it along. A little bit about my decision making below. I'm curious what other people are...

SAMBA crashes while many reads occur

Hi community,

I'm using FreeNAS to share a directory over Samba to an amd64 device where a dockerized rTorrent instance is running.

rTorrent uses this share to either store downloaded or temporary files. When it's uploading (hence reading from the NAS) many files, the samba server close the client connection.
When it happens, I can see from the server the following logs (loglevel full):

So I woke up yesterday morning to this error.
Code:
The volume tank state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected.


It was a rpm package that had been rsyncd in from a mirror as I use my freenas for local mirror functions. Upon using the trusty googles, the unanimous consensus was to get a backup of my data immediately. Thankfully I have the gear to do so, and its in flight right now. I do have other backups...

Hi all,

I'm running FreeNAS 11.2-U2.1 on ESXi 6.5, FreeBSD 64-bit. This is not meant for production, merely to have a proof of concept before going out and buying a ton of hardware.

I'm trying to get the FreeNAS box to replicate to a GCP bucket. I created a service account, gave it relevant credentials, and used the JSON key/token to store the credentials in FreeNAS cloud credentials, but FreeNAS keeps coming back with the error message in the attached image.

Windows clients can't alter data on SMB share

Hi,
I'm currently migrating a non-Freenas system to FreeNAS-11.2-RELEASE-U1.
After i set up the SMB shares (+ ACL permissions) and moved the data, Windows clients can't alter these files.
But they are able to remove/paste the files. On linux everything works fine.
After some tracing I found out that files owned only by root are causing troubles for Windows systems.

My setup:
I set up the user and groups according to my permission plan.

im using a 11.2 FreeNAS with nfs shares , i mounted the shares on a linux server , the problem is i keep having this message in dmesg : nfs: server x.x.x. not responding, still trying .
and every time this message appears the mount points hang ,
is there anything i can do to solve this problem ?
