Dell T110 ii - Struggling to work out the way forward

Hi,

I've got a Freenas FreeNAS-11.2-U3 system running on a Dell T110 ii server. The server has 16GB ECC memory and whilst its not the biggest and fastest, it's been an interesting build getting it going. The intention is to understand more about ZFS, and work out the best way for the FreeNAS server to handle light home use.

We're all Mac at home, and as part of the testing, I can create directories and we can have fun running Blackmagic over them to see how it all works.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm new to FreeNAS and whilst being a newbie to networking I'm no idiot. I'm hoping a pointer here will help me out.
So I set up an old Dell optiplex with a 1TB HDD and FreeNAS. Initially really as a plex player and storage source for our smart TV but then I've started to look at using it to backup photos, videos etc from my Android device removing the need for Google backups.

I have looked for a couple of days around google and the forum...

SAS Multipath Not Showing UP in GUI

Hello, I want to know if anybody had my problem described below, or any of you have an idea how to fix it.

I have the following SETUP:

1 x Dell R720 8 Bay model with 1 x LSI 9207-8i for the 8 direct attached drives ( front of server ), p20 firmware
1 x Dell MD 1200, firmware 1.06 attached with 2 sas cabels to the dell R720, LSI 9207-8e, p20 firmware
1 x Dell MD 1220, firmware 1.06 attached with 2 sas cabels to the dell R720, LSI 9207-8e, p20 firmware

Hi. I am new to freenas.

I presume this is a straight forward task, but I am unsure how to properly do it the freenas way.
I have 2 network interfaces on different subnets, that I have assigned static IPs.

SMB problem with windows client

Hi
I'm using Freenas over years, I setup a SMB share with one of them, after some time I updated that instance to latest stable version, (11.2). but now I can not copy files to my Windows clients with the attached error, I tried several files, file larger than about 400 KB files have problem, I double checked the configuration and googled, but could not find any solution. is there any configuration to limit copy size? or is there any where to check logs?
can some one help me to resolve this...

UNIX permission changes after copying to FreeNAS and back again via SMB

I create a file on my Mac with 'touch ~/Foo.txt', giving:

-rw-r--r-- 1 sean staff 0 8 Apr 14:29 Foo.txt

then I copy it to my FreeNAS (mounted with SMB) using 'cp -a' (or Finder) then back again:

-rwxrwxr-x 1 sean staff 0 8 Apr 14:29 Foo2.txt

Notice it went from 644 to 775. This does not occur if I do the same test with my macOS file server (it comes back with same permissions).

What's going on?

Need help very urgent!!! my data lost by mistake

I 'm using FreeNAS-9.10-RELEASE with Raid5 and share folder with windows client.
By mistake during I install jail, I choose target to my data folder.
After installation finished, I found jail folder replace my data.
And my all data disappear.
Anyone can give me suggestion how to get my data back.
My boss will kill me. Please help.

my server is is not starting SMB services. I have actually reinstalled the 11.2 U1 and the condition remains. I get the following the console messages:

Slow iSCSI VMWare zvol

Hi All,

I've configured a zvol with:
5x Samsung 860 Evo 250GB disks

I've put this into RAIDz1.

The networking is 4gbps with Ubiquiti EdgeSwitches (high throughput) and doesn't leave the switch for datastore to hypervisors.

There is 1 VM running on this datastore - netdata says it's not doing anything in terms of w/r, but when I do the following write test:
sync; dd if=/dev/zero of=tempfile bs=1M count=1024; sync

The results are:
1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out

OK, I'm about over with FreeNAS. When it works, it works fantastically! When it doesn't, I'm pulling my hair out for days/weeks and giving up on it completely. After the update that killed SMB v1, I lost access to my shares via browsing by hostname (\\server), and could not connect via IPMI (separate issue). Over the past few weeks, I've needed files of the server and was finally able to connect via IPMI and browse files via IP address (\\192.168.1.100). After a few updates, reading...

Middleware failed to start

I had downloaded the latest FreeNAS-11.2U2 and U3 files and extracted the ISO files on a USB stick. I Rebooted then ran each of these to install to another USB stick. These were each a clean install wiping out the contents each time. On booting each of these varients I get the message: Middlewared failed to start. Then later on the message appears of: Failed to run middleware call. Daemon not running? Don't get any fancy GUI just like a terminal interaction. Didn't go further due to...

Verán, estoy instalando Plex en FreeNAS 11.1 U7, y todo bien ahsta que intento acceder a Plex, que no llega a abrirse, el navegador termina dandome un error porque el servidor no responde y no se que le pasa o como solucionarlo, hice otra prueba instalando Plex en la última versión de FreeNAS y ahí si pude acceder, pero no podia ni reproducir el contenido y identificarlo para que le aplicase los metadatos.

Persistant diskless Arch Linux system

Not sure if this is appropriate here, but I'll ask anyway...

I want to create a diskless Arch Linux system which is persistant, ie any data created/edited will remain after a reboot.

I already have a PXE environment running under FreeNAS and am able to boot Arch Linux from an ISO image, but don't know how to deploy a permanent Arch Linux filesystem hosted on a FreeNAS NFS share. I can't stumble upon the correct APPEND line in my Arch Linux Live menuentry in my pxelinux.cfg/default...

I'll state up front, some of this is my fault. I moved halfway across the country, and had to reset my FreeNAS server to some new IP space. I have a working Plex distro in the legacy 11.1, and unintentionally deleted it. So, I have to reset Plex under a new jail instance, and have been encountering issues. Maybe it's me, maybe it's a defect. I don't know.

Plex plugin vs manually installing port/pkg in 11.2?

In FreeNAS 9.10 I manually installed/updated Plex from ports (and later from pkgs) because the 9.10 Plex plugin was supposedly slow to update. Is that less of an issue in 11.2? Right now I see the plugin is only a version behind the newest freshports release and that newest port was only released 4 days ago. Should I just install the plugin and be done with it? Or will a manual installation/updating still be preferable? I'm not worried about being a few weeks behind, but if the plugin were...

Another Plugins update has been released. The updated versions are now available for new installs in the Plugins ⇾ Available section of the UI. Existing plugin installations can be updated to the new versions using the CLI instructions in this post:

Please leave a comment if you experience any issues with the updated versions. There was an issue with Plex that we found in our testing and resolved this morning.

11.2-U2.1 Docker Woes

Hi all,

I have previously had docker working but when i blew away my last working docker machine now i cannot get rancher to load it stays stuck at

[root@FreeNAS ~]# cu -l /dev/nmdm54B

I have tried deleting the hidden .bhyve folder, rebooting etc but still no go.
A standard VM works just fine.

Any help getting this to work will be appreciated.
