Hi,

First of all, thank you for dropping by! I know forums can be a chore for those sharing knowledge to complete noobs, but I really appreciate that this community exists.

I'm hoping to use this thread as a staging area to plan, receive feedback, and then carry out my first FreeNAS project. I'll try to respect your time and not get too off topic, but I do want to be thorough as well.

Current situation:

  • Desktop - 100G root, 500G home, 3.6T lvm-raid...

Degraded Pool

Hey guys, I got an email last night about a degraded pool, but I am not 100% sure what is actually wrong here.

When I run zpool status I get this. Should I assume all has been fixed clear the issue (I think that is zpool clear?). I did have a drive not show up initially when I rebooted after some hardware changes, but I am not sure if that caused this issue.

Cron Jobs: Move files to other folder

Hi Guys,
I would like to ask if my command is right for moving files to other folders
I have to 2 path:
/mnt/BountyDumping/BountyDumping/
/mnt/BountyDumping/Recycle Bin/

my command is:
mv /mnt/BountyDumping/BountyDumping/* /mnt/BountyDumping/Recycle Bin/

other way i tried is create a script;
#!/bin/sh
mv /mnt/BountyDumping/BountyDumping/* /mnt/BountyDumping/Recycle Bin/

then other the command
find /script/move.sh

Rsync Module Configuration File

I am trying to modify an rsync module manually because the GUI is broken and won't allow domain users to be set in the module. (i've created a bug)
Changing the /etc/local/rsync/rsyncd.conf does not seem to stick.
It gets overwritten when the rsync service starts or stops.

Is there some other place that needs to be modified or some way to make it stick?

FreeNAS 11.2U5 kernel panics

Hi,

I've been having kernel panics in 11.2U5, but it was also happening on earlier versions. I have the /data/crash dumps, what can I do with this information to help troubleshoot this issue? It happens at around 13-14 days of uptime, and it's a pretty busy box.

Disconnect pool with hidden system files

I want to clear a pool of disks and re-use them. The pool is pool 1 in the build, and 'zfs list' shows a hidden directory named system, with configs and syslog in it. Do I need to move that directory somewhere else before detaching the pool?

So here is what I am trying to do: there are three vlans coming into freenas (10, 50, 60) and there are two jails running, one on vlan 10 (where the web gui also runs) and the other on vlan 60; vlan 50 is mostly unused aside from also being what the bmc is on. This is mostly working; I added the the vlans under networking, added static routes for physical lan and the two vlans in use and set vlan 10 to dhcp (static assignment) and the others to static ips. Trying to move dataset from one pool to another

I'm trying to move a dataset from Pool1 to Pool2. I made a recursive snapshot of the dataset in Pool1. Then I used the following command to send it to Pool2:

zfs send -Rv Pool1/"Calibre Library"@migrate | zfs recv -Fdus Pool2

I get a dataset Calibre Library in Pool2, but whenever I try to access it (such as with the ls command), it is empty. There is no data in it. What am I doing wrong?

Problem with permission

Hello, I have a problem with disk permissions. I have created users and groups. Each dataset has a designated group with permissions. However, something has started to go wrong for some time. The user x in the group with read / write rights to the given folder opens the document for read only. Nothing has changed in what can be a problem?

Does drive type still matter? 512e vs 4Kn, SATA vs SAS

for 6x 10 TB RAID-Z2 system does it still matter:
* if I buy 512e or 4Kn drives? The 512e drives are usually cheaper and better available.
* if I buy SATA or SAS disks?

identify disks serial number on Raid0 P410i

hi everyone

in my freenas server, each disk is on Raid0 Hardware Raid P410i separate raid0 disk present to zfs.(i know this is not recommended)

when I want get disk serial number for fail time, all disk have same serial in freenas.

but confusion is that :

smartctl -a /dev/da1 ( or da2 and so on)
i see all serial number are same and SMART support is: Unavailable - device lacks SMART capability.

Hi everyone, I have had a search of the forum and couldnt really come up with a confident yes or no answer to my issue.

My current Freenas set up is an intel based running the following config

FreeNAS-11.1-U7
Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G4560 @ 3.50GHz
16 GB Ram
3 tb capacity with 3 tb back up drive attached.

I currently use an AMD Ryzen 1700 for my daily driver which I am planning to upgrade to the new Ryzen 9 platform so this will leave me with the 1700 and an x370 motherboard spare.

As I have been converting over all my warden to IOCage, doing a ton of researching I never found a good Guide for SickChill (aka sickrage). Well its not pretty and could use some nice clean-up from someone with more experience but I got it working with my media share and sabnzbd

my path is /mnt/zp1/ similar to /mnt/tank/ use whatever you have as a path.

Salve a tutti, vorrei sapere (io non ci sono riuscito) se è possibile configurare un task che effettui lo snapshot ma che poi debba essere avviato da remoto!
Spiego il mio scenario:
Effettuo una SINCRONIZZAZIONE a specchio dei dati su 2 hd in raid (ovvero dal server eseguo una sincronizzazione tramite ftp sul freenas e in questo modo rendo nuovamente disponibile il server in tempi brevi)
Poi vorrei effettuare un backup differenziale o incrementale di questi dati sincronizzati!

Hi,

So far I wasn't able to find anywhere on the internet a decent noise comparison between 12TB (or larger) HDDs. I already know that helium filled HDDs are quite silent @ idle (and that is also the only specification that that most brands officially list), but I'd like to know which HDDs are the most silent @ load or which have the least annoying sounds with random access.

My Current setup is unRAID with 60TB and of Data and Two Drives for Parity and started to have stability issues and unsure to how to diagnose properly. I have no way retrieving logs when it locks on me. Every few days, I see myself restarting my dockers and rebooting my unRAID. So I decided to look around for alternatives. Hey! first of all this is my first time here (and with FreeNas itself) so sorry in advance if this post is not supposed to be here.
I just built my first FreeNas system with these specs
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2300G
RAM: 1X8 GB HyperX kit (3200mhz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H
PSU: Corsair CX550M (550W)
Case: Sharkoon VS7 Window

Salve a tutti. Hardware consigliato per Freenas è un HD di avvio minimo da 8GB. Quali sono le vostre configurazioni? Un SSD dove tenere Freenas e poi gli HD in Raid?
Fino ad oggi ho avuto Nas Netgear e Synology e per entrambi l'OS si installava sugli stessi HD in Raid.
