zpool CKSUM errors while resilvering after replacing a drive

Hi! This is my first post to the forum, so I apologise in advance if I miss out on any of the rules. However, I will try me best ;-)

We have a FreeNAS mini box (2016) that worked quite fine until a few days. One of the drives started to show errors in SMART and we decided to replace the drive with a new one. I followed the instructions from the official documentation (https://www.ixsystems.com/documentation/freenas/11.2/storage.html#replacing-a-failed-disk) to replace the failing...

Error creating passphrase for pool lucky

I just created my first pool on a freshly installed freenas. FreeNAS-11.2-U4.

I have two 3TB disks that I wanted to have as encrypted mirrored pool.
After creating the pool, I tried to set a passphrase.
However, all I get is the error message "Error creating passphrase for pool lucky".

I tried the legacy webinterface too, just to see if anything is different, and that got me the error message
"An encrypted pool containing the system dataset must not have a passphrase. An existing...

UPS for FreeNAS

So, looking for some information.

What models of UPS's do you all actually have working with FreeNAS 11.2 u4.x?

Just dropped a bunch on a UPS that is supposed to work, but doens't. This was after taking a gamble, and buying one that appeared to be supported in NUT. (Others have it working in older versions of FreeNAS, by editing the device list...)

I really don't want to go through this again...

Thanks!

user's home directory advantage

I'm trying to set my box files/folders structure to arrange family members sharing it's space for their individual and common needs. And I wander what is a real advantage of 1) having each user assigned a home directory instead of /nonexistent, and 2) having those home directories arranged under one mnt/pool/home dataset?? I've read in threads it is FreeBSD convention, but why it is and if it is applicable to FreeNAS?

FREENAS Mini XL+ build

Hi folks,
FreeNAS Mini XL+
Can I use Intel Optane drive into the M.2 x2 slot ( SLOG ) and Intel Optane drive into the PCIe x4 slot (L2ARC) on the mobo?
Can I use 8 x WD RED PRO 12TB? No overheating with these drives?
Where is the OS installed? On the SATADOM ( orange colour )?
The mobo offers another 3 x SATA ports, can I use them for three 2.5" SSDs and create a separate pool out of them in ZFS ( need to mount the third in the chassis somehow )?
Thanks

Hey all,

This may be a bit of a long shot but hoping some one could help me get the firmware for this card. The firmware offered on broadcoms website is for the 9202 which should be the same, except when flashing the card I get the error firmware image does not support the target device.

As of now the card has no firmware and is pretty useless :/

Any help would be appreciated!

I am having an issue getting FreeNAS connected to Backblaze B2. I've tried using the Acccount ID and Master Application Key, Application Key ID and Application Key, as well as Account ID and Application Key with no luck.

I saw others post that updating to 11.2RC1 resolved the issue, so I updated with no change.

The specific error is:

Now that Sickrage appears to be defunct. Im trying to decide on the alternative media manager to move too. My understanding is that all are forks off of sickrage. In my searching I have been looking for comparisons on these listed in the subject line and have not had much success. If anyone has had any experience or could shed some light on these alternatives it would be greatly appreciated. Some questions I have are:

What are the differences between the alternatives?

PowerEdge T20, New ECC Ram causing crash

I recently upgraded the ram in my PowerEdge T20 32 GB of ECC RAM.

With the stick that the server came with (4GB) the system is completely stable, but after installing the ram, I see frequent system reboots. The reboots happen with FreeNAS as well as a few other linux distros that I have tried.

I tried each ram stick individually in the hopes to isolate one and the reboots happen with all of the new sticks. With the old stick, the system is completely stable.

The reboots can happen...

Interupting / breaking SMB transfers

Maybe this is a know issue, but i could not find anything on this:

There are quite a few operations, done via the web gui, that seem to cause destructive interruptions to (network) file transfers / sessions. (ie copying a file over SMB- being interrupted).

For example, im copying a few GB of data from a windows box to my FN server (via smb). On the FN box i go to create a new pool, unrelated to the pool im copying data to. At some point in the pool creation "in...

Volume status showing 8 HDDs in two raidz2? I am confused.

I'm a newbie. I have a very simple and dumb question. I have tried to search but still can't find anyone dumb enough to post similar question....

I have set up my first Freenas Nas. I have 8 x 8TB drives and wanted to set up them in one Volume in Raidz2. However, I am feeling that I may have done something wrong and set up them as two 4 x 4TB in Raidz2, because I see raidz2-1 and raidz2-0 on the Volume Status. Could any experienced user verify for me please? Thank you for much...

This is a how to install Nextcloud 13 with all checks passed on FreeNAS 11.

New in this guide is how to create and iocage jail and it also works with version 11 & 12 of nextcloud

This is a rewrite of the original post https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/how-to-nextcloud-10-w-apache-php-and-mariadb.46111/ with a few added adjustments where needed to make this fully functional.
I know this works as I have re-emulated this 4 times today to insure its accuracy...

Will it FreeNAS - My First Build

I've pretty much secured funding for my project and am in the configuration stage. But before I pull the trigger I thought I'd run it by you all to see a) if what I am building will work, and b) if there are any suggestions.

My goal (besides building something I can show off and impress my friends who don't have a server ;) ) is to build a server that will last at least 5 years, hold all the stuff that is ready to go on it, and be expandable enough to add more drives and other software as...

Hello all

Please be patient with me. I will be increasing the size of my storage shortly.

As per my signature I have 2 freenas servers

Both with 4 X 2 tb drives

I would like to increase on one server from 2 to 3 TB drives.

I read the manual and I want to ensure i do not screw this up more than i normally will.

On one server
1) I put a drive offline

2) remove the drive from the server

3)turn server off

4) Insert the 3tb drive

5) turn server on and make new drive online. ....Now...

Is there a way to set Scrubs / S.M.A.R.T. test to run bi-weekly?

I've just upgraded to 11.2 and one minor change I've noticed (compared to 9.10.2-u5) is that I can no longer set Scrubs or S.M.A.R.T. tests to run bi-weekly on the same day of the week.

I'd like to be able to set Scrubs to run on every other Moneday. Is it possible in the new Web UI?

Mac clients connecting to FreeNAS - Which dataset share type

$

Hi,

I am quite new to FreeNAS so apologize if that question has already been answered but I couldn't find anything related to it.
I have a network of 80% Mac clients and 20% Windows clients and I am wondering which "share type" option I should use.

I am sharing using Samba protocol only, knowing AFP will be gone soon. AFP is therefore Off.
I am using at the moment Windows share type.
I am guessing "Mac" share type is for AFP protocol but I might be wrong.

Thanks for your help.

Drive still listed even though physically not in system any more

My old USB SSD(da6) boot drive is still listed under Disks even though it's physically not in the system any more and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. The new boot drive is an internal HDD(ada0). SMART still sees it and gives me errors. Pool Manager/Create Pool still sees it. Running 11.2-U5.

I moved from my old drive to my new drive by doing a bare install then uploading a configuration file, nothing else changed on the hardware or software. Other then this problem it runs fine.
