SSD Array Performance

I've been messing with Freenas on and off for almost a year. After going down the Inverted triangle of doom - I shy'ed away from a glusterfs 2 node replica +arbiter - (The cost just wasn't justified with doing massive duplication efforts, which was just plain stupid for home lab).

I was 95% settled into a Primary & Backup Freenas - 2x HP DL380 G8 - Optane 900 Slog, 12x 4TB Ironwolf. - I could get 500MB/S to 600MB/S up/down - and with the slog for my VM's - the numbers were even better with...

When I connect to my server using IPMI and view the console, it looks like it is cut off at the bottom. Is this typical?

'creation date' metadata lost when copying files to FreeNAS SMB share

$

When I copy files from my Mac to a FreeNAS SMB share, almost all the file metadata is preserved, but one exception seems to be the file creation date. See screenshot.

Is this deliberate? A bug? A limitation?

Before I move several terabytes from my old Mac file server to my FreeNAS, is there anyway to preserve all my file creation dates?

Thanks.

Hello,
I'm using FreeNAS 9.2.0-RELEASE-x64 (ab098f4).

When I go to Storage > Volumes > View Disks via web UI, I see then my 3 hard disks, named da0, da1 and da2. Each one is a 4Tb disk. When I select one of them and clic on the Edit button, then I want to change "Advanced Power Management" from disabled to "Level 1- Minimum power usage with Standby", but when I clic on the Ok button, to proceed with this new setting, I get the next message in red above the Serial textbox: "Ensure this...

Remove vdev from Pool without destroying pool

I have a Pool made up of sets vdevs, each vdev is a RaidZ1 of 4 disks. I ran into some problems awhile back and had to replace a few disks that FreeNAS was telling were failing. I replaced the disk in a given vdev without removing the old disk immediately. Now the disks that I replaced show to good again and I don't know which ones FreeNAS wanted me to remove. That is the problem with the vdev that shows 7 disks in the attached screenshot.

The second problem is that I have a single vdev...

This is my first experience with FreeNAS so please excuse me if this is a dumb question but after installation I setup the NIC and when I go to the IP in a browser all it says is:

Connecting to NAS... Make sure the NAS system is powered on and connected to the network.

I've tried it in Edge, Chrome, and Firefox on Windows 10. Am I missing something?

Thank you.

Hello,
I installed the nextcloud plugin on my freenas 11.2U5.
Once installed, a window with the data relating to the installation and the database should appear.
Database data does not appear.
How can I solve the problem? without the database data I cannot complete the nextcloud configuration.

Thank you.

Interupting / breaking SMB transfers

Maybe this is a know issue, but i could not find anything on this:

There are quite a few operations, done via the web gui, that seem to cause destructive interruptions to (network) file transfers / sessions. (ie copying a file over SMB- being interrupted).

For example, im copying a few GB of data from a windows box to my FN server (via smb). On the FN box i go to create a new pool, unrelated to the pool im copying data to. At some point in the pool creation "in...

I am having an issue getting FreeNAS connected to Backblaze B2. I've tried using the Acccount ID and Master Application Key, Application Key ID and Application Key, as well as Account ID and Application Key with no luck.

I saw others post that updating to 11.2RC1 resolved the issue, so I updated with no change.

The specific error is:

Physical Interface for NFS on Same Subnet as GUI

Hi Folks - Slowly working through my Freenas implementation :)

I would like to use a free network interface on my server that is dedicated to NFS. My primary interface (for the management GUI) is on igb0 which is 192.168.20.170 on the 192.168.20.0/24 network. My ESXi server is also on the 192.168.20.0/24 network. I would like to dedicate one of the ESXi interfaces (e.g. virtual switch, etc.) to connect to the FreeNAS NFS share. I would like to keep using the 192.168.20.0/24 network but it...

Will it FreeNAS - My First Build

I've pretty much secured funding for my project and am in the configuration stage. But before I pull the trigger I thought I'd run it by you all to see a) if what I am building will work, and b) if there are any suggestions.

My goal (besides building something I can show off and impress my friends who don't have a server ;) ) is to build a server that will last at least 5 years, hold all the stuff that is ready to go on it, and be expandable enough to add more drives and other software as...

SMB Users per dataset?

Several windows VMs for my own testing / lab. + FN 11.2-u5 on a physical box.

My plan is to have a 4 different datasets for SMB sharing only, and each of those will only be accessable (via SMB) via a single username/password (and ofcouse also by root/rootpass via smb).

I've tried several guides I've found online as well as the example in the FN manual, but none seem to do what i want.
(and the almost all info seems to contradict each other:
like the manual says to create a user/group pair...

Mac clients connecting to FreeNAS - Which dataset share type

$

Hi,

I am quite new to FreeNAS so apologize if that question has already been answered but I couldn't find anything related to it.
I have a network of 80% Mac clients and 20% Windows clients and I am wondering which "share type" option I should use.

I am sharing using Samba protocol only, knowing AFP will be gone soon. AFP is therefore Off.
I am using at the moment Windows share type.
I am guessing "Mac" share type is for AFP protocol but I might be wrong.

Thanks for your help.
