I'm looking for a compatible rackmount 1U storage server I could use with freenas. Do you have any recommendation. This is a pretty low level usage for 20 users max and 4-10TB of data. Any idea is welcome. I'm looking preferably for hardware with a public price.

FreeNAS 11.2-U5 and BSD Boot Loader woes (Dell H/W and ESXi)

Hello,

Is anyone else having trouble with newer editions of FreeNAS that use the BSD boot loader?

I've done some searches, and some of the problems people seem to be having with the BSD boot loader may be related to USB sticks, but this does not apply to my case.

I recently upgraded a FreeNAS system which I manage with the following specs:

Dell R620 (updated to latest firmware, as of the beginning of July, system is 2014 era)
Avago/LSI 9300-8E SAS Controller
SuperMicro 90 Bay JBOD...

Hello,

I started to have some problems with cloud credentials for a OneDrive personal account after upgrading to 11.2-U5. The problem is that the settings for Drive Account Type as "PERSONAL" in Cloud Credentials is not saved and hence each time rclone is trying to make a sync is giving the error below:

Quota storage for user

Hi everyone,

I am new on FreeNAS and i have a question. I read documentation on the web and the forum but is not clear for me what is the better way to define quota for users.

I know 2 methods:

1. Set the quota for Dataset and create 1 dataset for user to define the quota.
2. Set the quota to CLI throught the command zfs set userquota@domain\\user=1t Volume1

It should be noted when i make the 2 method the quota for the user do not appear in the GUI, only i can see if write the...

Hi,

I'm currently in the proces of switching over to FreeNAS 11.2 and I'm having two issues with Transmission I'm unable to solve.

Downloads folder keeps reverting back to the default settings

I've created a dataset named "Transmission" with a Downloads, Incomplete and Torrents (watch-dir) folder. I created a mount point for this dataset in the "/media" folder in the Transmission jail.

I've tried by setting the "Downloads" folder in the Transmission GUI but it doesn't save it. It...

FreeNAS 11.2 and multiple logins

I have searched for information on the topic of this discussion, and could not find anything. If the manual does answer my question, please point me in the right direction.

Are there any issues with logging in to a FreeNAS box more than once?

I am doing so from the same Windows PC, using the same web browser (Opera in this case). Will this cause any issues?

Thanks!

Did anyone else have issues after upgrading to 11.2 and plugins? I previously had plex installed and removed it prior to upgrade. after upgrade when I went to install the plex plugin I get

and it just sits there for hours at 50% and never installs. This is the same for all the plugins now. Everything was working fine before. Any help is appreciated

HI need some help here, not sure what is going on. I rebooted after an update to 11.2-US and found I had lost a pool, one that uses a plug in raid card has the lost "DiamondDataStore" of 5 x 3Tb disks, the other pool "Backup" is of 5 x 2Tb disks off the motherboard is OK.
When I tried to re-import the missing "DiamondDataStore" I have this popup in a window.
Is this a python problem and I have to reinstall Freenas?
Any help gratefully received.

Speed copying files from Windows

I have my FreeNAS server built, and am testing it. Right now, I am testing disk temps when copying lots of large files. So far, the drive temps look good, but other aspects of the system seem questionable.

Specifications for the server are in my signature.

At this time, the file copy speed as reported by Windows 10 is bouncing up and down constantly. It goes from about 2MB/s (Windows terms) to just over 24MB/s.

That seems kind of slow.

In an earlier iteration, there were only six data...

Hey guys,

I'm in a search for a NAS solution for quit some time now. I want to build it myself and yesterday I stumbled upon a what seems to be a good (buget) starting point - preconfigured desktop box I think I could easly use as a NAS.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
Mobo: ASUS PRIME A320M-K
Memory: 16gb DDR 2400Mhz (Kingston KVR24N17D8/16)
Install storage: 480gb SSD (Kingston SA400S37/480G)
Some generic PC case and power

This all is on sale for around $280 - I think it is OK price for the...

When to replace SMART status

Should I be waiting for the drives to actually fail before replacing or should I just go ahead and replace drive that are looking like they will fail. I have one drive that has high seek errors and the temp sometimes will be above 40 . Today I just notice two other drives that have small amount of seek errors too, although they are low it does worry me that these drive power on hours are high and that three drives could fail killing my pool...

iSCSI on FreeNAS 11.1 and how to set up and access from Windows 10

I am confused (not surprising for a beat-up old dude of 75+). After following several paths, looking for information on iSCSI in FreeNAS 11.1, I seem to have hit the wall.

I'm not new to computers, though my experience with "desktop" sized systems is only about 25+ years old (large iron mainframe experience goes back about 60 years), starting with Xenix and Unix (SCO) and moving to Linux, I have frequently used SCSI disks and tapes in the past.

When I saw I could create an iSCSI zvol (I...

SCSI ILLEGAL REQUESTLogical block address out of range

Hello All,
I've had my FreeNAS box up and running for around 6 years now. Everything has worked great and the machine has been extremely stable. (My record uptime is about 5 days short of 2 years.) Yesterday I started seeing this error. "SCSI sense: ILLEGAL REQUEST asc:21,0 (Logical block address out of range)" I've searched the forums and some of the answers have pointed to PSU but since this is 1 drive specifically I find that to be a bit of a strange solution. I have a 8x 4tb Z2 raid on...

My Nas system works fine , but the system can't reboot. When the system reboot, the process hangs on 'ata2: <ATA channel> at channel 1 on atapci0'. Meanwhile, the FreeNAS system can start from shut down and seems everything is OK.

This is the attach files and my hardware list:
1. ga b85m d3h
2. intel i3 4170
3. Marvell 9215( Sata controller)
4. 8xsata3 HDD(4 in 9215 and 4 in motherboard)
5. intel 530 SSD

Anything you guys think I should try? If my screenshot is not enough to go off let me...

Hello,

i'm very new in freeNAS, and I really need help with very basic issue.

I have GitLAB on my freeNAS server, but i need to install LFS for it, because my team can't push anything large.

There is a package to dowmload: https://github.com/git-lfs/git-lfs/releases but i don't kow how to place it on my server and how to install it on GitLab jail.

I only know how to place it on my SMB shared directory, but i suppose that is no good solution to install it from there, because...

Problem connecting SAS backplane to X10SL7-F

Hi,

I just bought a new rack case to give my FreeNAS setup a new home. The case I got is a IPC 4U-4420 from Inter-Tech (click here for details). The case has 5 backplanes with SFF-8087 connectors. My problem now is connecting my Supermicro X10SL7-F SATA ports to these backplanes.

In addition to the SATA ports I use an additional LSI controller...

Will my first build FreeNAS?

Hi everyone,

I'm having problems with my current "storage solution", which is a cheap raid5 chassis with 4x 3TB WD Red HDDs. During PrimeDay I bought some new blurays but copying them onto the storage kind of damaged the file system. After what I've read online, I may have hit an unresolved bug in the ext4 file system, but anyway. Since this is not the first time I have problems with this solution (I already lost all my data once, but the important data was backed up), I decided it's time...
