Hi new member from the UK

I’m building a my Nas from an old pc that I upgraded into a gaming pc from about 10 years ago. Since then Iv been into laptops and not been pc gaming. I am now into video editing for my small car YouTube channel and the 256gb ssd on my MacBook Pro sucks, AHCI ssd’s are expensive and external drives are a pain! So Freenas made from my old pc seams the cheapest and best option

Plex not able to stream video or download meta data

Hi this is my first time using FreeNAS and jails.

For some reason, I am not able to download any meta data on movies or tv shows and I am not able to stream any movies or tv shows from plex. I have tried reinstalling Plex and restarting the server... Any ideas as to what is wrong?

I've taken some screenshots of my Freenas setup:

Hey guys,

i got a big problem while installing FreeNas 11.2-U5.
My Hardware is a 3.5" computer called "IBase IB908AF-4300". It`s equipped with an i5-4300U and 8GB Ram. A 32GB SSD is provided for the FreeNAS installation (Transcend TS32GMSA370).

Before explaining the problem, trying to install from a USB stick (different types) or from a CD-Drive makes no difference.
After boot from the medium with the installation files, it shows me the installation menu with the different options (Start...

Hi,

What is your experience with an attached USB disk as the primary storage volume for files? I have failed to find answers whether it's recommended or not.

With my newly installed (and first) Freenas setup I wish to base it on a Intel Nuc with a 3tb disk attached to one of the USB 3.0 interfaces.
Due to the limited hardware case, I'm having the disk connected externally. I have one more spare disk I’ll like to connect the similar way (two in total if everything goes as I wish).

Mirroed SLOG - 2x optane p900 OR p900 and p3700 ?

Currently i have a single optane p900 as a SLOG on a NFS share , connected to VMware. This is not a high disk IO load setup (as its my home lab), but i would like to have my SLOG as mirrored.

Can anyone offer any input on info on if i should buy another p900 as the 2nd part of the mirror, or if i should go with a p3700 as the 2nd mirror?

the answer would clearly be the p900 (as it has higher performance, and i would prefer mirror members to exactly match), however we all know that the...

Can I use any PCIe SATA expansion card to add more storage ports in FreeNAS

I'm having a hard time finding a micro ATX motherboard with support for ECC memory and at least 8 SATA ports, so I was thinking on getting an expansion card to increase the number of hard drive ports. However, I don't know if FreeNAS has any issues with most PCIe expansion cards.

Can I just add an expansion card to increase the number of hard drive on FreeNAS?

Remove old critical alerts

About a month ago I had a drive (ada1) start to report errors. I replaced the drive and have had no new alerts since then but I still have a blinking red "critical" alert warning in the GUI. I opened the alert box and unchecked the old alerts but one will not uncheck and the "critical" warning is still active.
How can I get that cleared? Thanks, all.

Hello Everyone,

First, I'd like to mention that currently I have 2 Open Media Vault servers, a main & backup. Each has 4x4TB 7200rpm Toshiba NAS drives, both are connected to my 10Gb network. I might be looking to convert one of these which has an i3-8100 with 16GB RAM info a FreeNAS server because I want to use iSCSI. I think it would be pretty damn cool to mount the storage as a block device using iSCSI to either my Hackintosh or Win10 PC & to actually not just use this as a storage...

Is creating a backup of the "/Plex Media Server" folder enough to restore Plex after a reinstall?

I'm currently figuring out how Plex works and I also want to know the proper procedure for restoring my Plex server in case I have to do a reinstall of my Plex jail for example. I just tested this by following the procedure listed below.
  1. Make a copy of the the /Plex Media Server folder
  2. Destroy the Plex jail
  3. Install it again from the web UI
  4. Stop the jail and configure it exactly like as it was before
  5. Create the same mount point so Plex could access my...

I’m getting awful transfer speeds using cifs/smb and sftp (so far). FreeNAS can copy locally around 200-300MB/s.

I have transmission in an iocage jail in FreeNAS 11.2.

My fstab entry for that jail had 114 lines.

Everything has been working fine. All directories with a space have /040

When I want to add storage to the jail, I usually just do

echo "/mnt/pool/storagepoint /mnt/Jail/iocage/jails/transmission/root/media/storagepoint nullfs rw 0 0" >> /mnt/Jail/iocage/jails/transmission/fstab

Then I add /media/storagepoint to the jail and restart the jail.

I've done it...

Upgraded 11.1_U7 > 11.2_U3 - Empty Dashboard

Just upgrade to 11.1-U7 to 11.2-U3. No issues, everything seems to be working as it should except the dashboard on the main screen do not contain any data (see screenshot). If i click on "Report" on any of the widgets, I do see the chart, so the data seems to be getting collected. Just doesn't get displayed on the main dashboard; the disk temperature eventually gets populated (in a few mins), but other data doesn't.

Any advice is appreciated.

reboot from GUI doesn't reboot but shut down instead

My Nas system works fine , but the system can't reboot. When the system reboot, the process hangs on 'ata2: <ATA channel> at channel 1 on atapci0'. Meanwhile, the FreeNAS system can start from shut down and seems everything is OK.

This is the attach files and my hardware list:
1. ga b85m d3h
2. intel i3 4170
3. Marvell 9215( Sata controller)
4. 8xsata3 HDD(4 in 9215 and 4 in motherboard)
5. intel 530 SSD

Anything you guys think I should try? If my screenshot is not enough to go off let me...

Hello

i got a managed switch from ubiquity managed switch 150w-8port and edgerouter x. along ofc freenas
on the freenas i got lagg0 (LACP) running. i would like to have the iocage servers on separate vlan and the VM on same network as my main
in static routes i wrote:
10.0.2.0/24 - 10.0.2.1 LAN and
10.0.40.0/24 - 10.0.40.1 Servers
i can see it tags different tings in the unifi controller just with this set?!? anyway
i then made a vlan on the freenas name vlan40 - parent lagg0 - tag 400
then...

VLAN - explain please on how to do it.

VLAN Interface for a VM

Has anybody found out how to create a VLAN interface for a VM?
What I've done:
  1. Created a link aggregation (lagg0)
    This interface is working well for freenas itself and a VM
  2. Created a VLAN interface (vlan25) with parent lagg0 und vlan ID 25
  3. Added this interface to a VM configuration
    Unfortunately I can't reach other systems within VLAN 25
Any ideas?

@ the jail & bhyve section nobody has an answer...

Does anybody has a bhyve vm up and running which uses an host vlan interface?

like:
eth0 (untagged, vm) -> tap1 (host) -> bridge1 (host) -> vlan25 (host, tagged, bridge1-member) -> lagg0 (host, link aggregation) -> cisco switch - other system(s)

When I give vlan25 an IP address, I can ping from the host the VM as well as the systems in vlan25 somewhere in the network.
From the VMI can ping just the host.

any idea where to search...

Hey guys,

my freenas-boot is degraded since today.

FreeNAS-11.2-u5
MB: Primez 370-P
RAM: 2x Kingston KVR26N19D8/16 (16GB 2Rx8 2G x 64-Bit PC4-2666 )
Root SSD: 1x WDC WDS120G2G0B-00EPW0 (WD Green 120GB SSD m.2)
HDD (Storage): 4x Seagate ST8000VX0022 SkyHawk 8 TB (8,89 cm (3,5 Zoll) 256 MB Cache, Sata 6 Gb/s)

The command zpool status -x fives me following answer (attached files fn1 & fn2):
