Please help to get another FreeNAS dream come true :)

Hi everyone,
After reading some posts and guides on this forum, I feel ready to post my FreeNAS plans. I usually build my PC's on my own from chosen components, but it's the first time I'm doing a server-project.

What am I planning to do with the system?
  • Backups for Windows 10 PC's, and Linux Servers (Ubuntu / Centos) and Apple TimeMachine
  • Media Server (Plex) - So I need good transcoding Power (Maybe also for two 4K streams in near future...?)
  • Downloader - Couchpotato or...

Please help to get another FreeNAS dream come true :)

Boa tarde tudo bem ?
Sou novo aqui e acabei de instalar pela primeira vez o freenas num desktop para poder instalar o plex e por os vídeos a rodar pelos televisores de casa mas estou com um problema eu criei um poll com uma pasta e encaminhei o jail para o plex mas quando chego ao jail do ples no mount point escolhe a pasta que quero mas depois no propria servicor a pasta fica a conzento e nao consigo escolher.

Rsync from Freenas to Unraid

Hello everyone,
I just recently setup a new Freenas server, and I have already transferred all files from my old Unraid server to Freenas.
Now I want to use the old Unraid server as a back-up to my main Freenas server using Rsync.
I understand that it is really easy to setup between two Freenas servers, but could it be done with different servers?

Hi,
I can no longer seem to get access to my jails.
I created a new one with a dhcp address and that one gets its IP but i can't access it.
Where to look for further errors?

Hallo Zusammen,
ich setzte zum 1. Mal FreeNAs ein und bin gerade beim testen der SMB-Funktionalitäten.

Dabei habe ich beim Zugriff von Win-PCs nun das Problem dass ich im Windows-Explorer neben meinem User-Verzeichnis (User1) auch die User-Verzeichnisse von allen anderen Usern sehe (User2, User3), diese allerdings alle auf 'mein' Home-Verzeichnis (User1) zeigen. D.h. wenn ich auf das Verzeichnis "User2" wechsle, wird mir der Inhalt vom Home-Verzeichnis von "User1" angezeigt, wobei jedoch...

Hey guys,

so I recently got the aboved mentioned 10GBE Card. At that point I didn't knew that there is now driver for this card/s.

So I got in contact with the support and they told me to they are working on it.
A few weeks later and I got the driver now:

So my question? Can I compile the driver on the CLI and test it/installed the driver or should I test that on a fresh FreeBSD system?

Good morning

I am considering upgrading my server with SSD cache, with the ultimate goal of being able to saturate my 10GbE connection. I don't strictly need those kind of speeds, but, I'd like to try.

HW:
MB: Supermicro X9SRL-F
CPU: E5-2650 v2 (8C/16T)
RAM: 64GB DDR3 1600MHz ECC (4x16GB DIMMs)
Boot drive: Sandisk 16GB USB2
Main pool: 10x10TB ZFS2

Right now, my performance is fairly good. Transfering hundreds of GBs see sustained writes surpassing 300MB/s. I havent really tested read...

I have a Cisco M4 and Dell 620 servers.

Cisco C240 M4 with 128G DDR4 currently only one 900gb SAS drive.

I don't have the exact Dell Stats, but I can buy more RAM since it's only DDR3

I was going to dedicate one of them completely to FreeNas, based on which one will have an easier time of compatibility as well as best value. (ie. perhaps I should use the M4 for other means?


I was looking at either used SAS drives on ebay (.9 TB) or 2 TB 2.5" SATA HDD...

Can't get Chelsio N320E (10gbase) to work at all

Hello everyone,
I've installed a Chelsio N320E NIC on my system, a Supermicro x10sl7-f motherboard, with FreeNAS-11.2-U7 on.
The card is correctly recognized since I can see both interfaces showing up as cxgb0 and cxgb1.
However, upon connecting to a PC with a point to point connection, I can't even ping the bloody thing.
On the PC, if I type arp -a i see the IP for the freenas server but the mac address is reported as incomplete. If I add it with arp -s, and sniff the traffic on the FN box...

Can't get Chelsio N320E (10gbase) to work at all

FreeNAS 11.2-U6 issues updating Plex

Have issues with FreeNAS FreeNAS-11.2-U6 that I upgraded from 11.2-U4 a week or two ago.

Noticed that my plex installation was out of date, so decided to upgrade to most recent going to 1.18.1.2019

Performed the steps I always done...

1. ssh into jail and did pkg update
* Received a warning about iocage not current version *which is weird - system was built from scratch under version 11, and I never received this error/warning before. Allowed to ignore which I did.
2. shut down my plex...

SMB All of Sudden Not Working

I have had Freenas up and running without issue for over three years now, current on 11.2 U7

About 2pm eastern time today suddenly I nor my wife can no longer access our shared folders via windows explorer, we are told that we do not have permissions. I did not make any changes prior to today and I admit I lost my head and tried various thing to fix it afterwards to no avail and probably made it worse.

Is there some way to either fix it or to reset all permissions, delete all users and...

I've lurked for quite some time in the forums, reading, learning, and ultimately deciding to build a FreeNAS system over buying a prebuilt. I had actually acquired some of the hardware in 2017 in my initial desire to build a NAS until I realized how much the drives would cost... That all changed last week with the Newegg 8TB WD Red sale and my wife's growing business storage.

For starters, my equipment is a bit older because it was purchased based on a previous hardware guide that is now...

Windows 2008 VM suddenly stops

Hi, in a FreeNAS 11.2 I created two VMs, one Ubuntu Server 16.04 64bit and a Windows Server 2008 R2. Since a couple of days I noticed the Windows VM suddenly stops.

After some investigation I found a printer has the same IP as the FreeNas server (I asked the sysadmin to change the printer's). Now, both virtual machines has VirtIO NICs, but only the Windows stops, does anyone know if this is related to the conflicting IP?.

DynDns mit Subdomain

Hallo Leute,

habe mir gestern bei Strato einen Domain gekauft und ketzt möchte ich wissen, ob es möglich ist für jeden einzelnen Dienst in Freenas einen subdomain zu erstellen.

Domain ist z.B. Test.de

für Nextcloud: nextcloud.test.de und für plex : plex.test.de .

Besitze einen Fritzbox 6591 und DynDns wurde auch eingerichtet. Hoffe es kann mir jemand weiterhelfen.

Dashboard Instability

Hello,

I'm doing a bunch of testing on FreeNAS 11.2-U6 and keep running into a weird problem so I figured I would post it. I have this particular system online strictly for testing and notice that when I put any kind of iSCSI load on the system the dashboard stops responding. I can still ping the NAS and the iSCSI transfers run fine, but everything in the dashboard zeros out (if I was already logged in prior to load start) and if I hit refresh the page goes into an infinite loading cycle...
