RTL8153 Working ?

Hello.

I would want to use FreeNAS on a spare laptop that I have but it's Ehernet port doesn't work anymore. To solve that issue, I would like to buy a USB Ethernet adapter: TP-Link UE300. It has an RTL8153 chipset but I am not sure if it works and I do not want to waste my money (too much). I am using an old laptop because this is what I have and I just want to use FreeNAS for educational purposes.

Thank you in advance for your help !

Files Invisible on Replication Computer

Hello,

I have been using FreeNAS for regular home storage for a while now. I recently decided to add a replication FreeNAS and following the instructions. It appears to be working. The source computer sends the Snapshots over to the destination. There are no errors and sometimes I even catch the source computers snapshot in the middle of transfer. The storage consumption is approximately the same on both computers....

Here is the problem. I cannot view any of the files on the destination...

After I upgraded my system from 11.2-U8 to 11.3 I get the following error message when I try to access "Plugins" or "Jails" from the webinterface: "cannot unmount '/mnt/iocage/releases/11.2-RELEASE/root': Device busy"

I've already tried to unmount the mentioned pool manually by:

Code:
zfs unmount -f /mnt/iocage/releases/11.2-RELEASE/root

But I get the following error message:

Hello everyone...

I setup an ftp long time ago and upgraded etc.
The only one using my ftp was myself..... now i am in need of a ftp for my collegues to connect too (because of COVID-19). So i setup an account in Freenas 11.3 and usergroup. And made a dataset for this user to use as a Home Directory and gave Full control in ACL's to this user.
Nothing special...
I checked my FTP settings...
Checked:
'Allow local user login'
'Allow transfer Resumption'

The rest unchecked

Now i checked...

Hey all,

I can not figure out if this is a Storage or a network problem, but is looks the most on a storage problem.

I am having a weird problem, i am trying to get a ftp account for a collegue so we can share work, i set everything up, but for a reason i can not acces when i have set the home directory on my Data pool.
The solution is to put this user into the wheel groupt but i don't want that all data even my root of freenas is accessebale.
I just want him to acces this dataset that i...

Replication failing after boot drive upgrade

Greeting all.

I recently upgraded my system to from 9.2 to 11.2-U8 (build report forthcoming, once all is working). I poured through the posts, planned out my hardware and software upgrades, and executed. At this point all of the hardware and software is upgraded. All went very well until I got to the step where I upgrade my boot device from USB stick to mirrored SSDs. With the USB stick, I successfully created a replication task to my local (same machine, using "localhost") backup...

My freenas tested with iperf3 and I encountered uploads of up to 10G, but when iperf3 added the parameter -R, it was only about 5G when downloading. In the same network environment, my upload and download between win10 and win10 can normally reach 10g. The network card is inter x520-da2. Make sure it is plugged into pcie3.0 x4. Thank you for your help!

FreeNas 11.3 Installer Hangs at inital boot

I am trying to set up FreeNAS in a couple environments and I'm getting the exact same behavior in both.

ENV1: As a guest OS on UnRAID 6.8.3
ENV2: Bare Metal on an old i5

Both Machines are configured with 8 GB of RAM.

When I boot the ISO image (unraid) or use a USB Key (i5), the installer boots to the countdown screen and then starts to boot.

I see:

I'm the first time to install a freenas server, I have 4TB*3 and 8TB*3 disks, I want to pool using all 6 disks in raidz2, and update 4TB disks to 8TB later, but when creating pools in the GUI, It says "Mixing disks of different sizes in a VDEV is not allowed. " and the create button is grayed out.

Is there a way to create a pool using all 6 disks in 1 vdev?

New HBA, but lost 10gbe Connection

Hello all, I recently upgraded my Freenas with a SAS HBA that is working great, but due to wanting to optimize PCIE lanes, I had to move my Intel 10gbe NIC to a new PCI slot. When I did this my connection speed dropped form 10gbe down to 1gbe. No other system changes were made. The server is connected directly to my windows machine on a different subnet so there isnt any hardware in between.

My thought is that there has to be something in the freenas settings that I am not thinking of.

Any...

Hi,

I am struggling to figure out whether the error above, which I'm seeing from two different cabled Windows clients, is being caused by something I've done wrong when setting up my FreeNas system
  • HP Proliant ML10 Gen9
  • Intel Pentium G4400 CPU
  • 32GB ECC RAM (Crucial)
  • 4x WD Red 6TB Drives in Raidz
  • Network card identified as Intel i219 (built-in NIC)
I have set this up with DeDupelication on some datasets so am expecting to need to add more RAM, but I've not been...

I am planning a build for my first NAS system for home use. As I read info on this site and others I waver between high quality and trying to stay in a budget. This is the current list of specs I'm considering. Would appreciate any feedback. I plan to use it mostly for backing up up my computers (PC and Mac) and a media streaming server.

Freenas UPS server not functioning

So my Googling has come up dry. I have an APC Back-UPS Pro 900 connected to my FreeNAS 11.3 U1 machine via USB and the UPS service enabled. Everything works fine and dandy, upsc APC@localhost in the terminal throws back all the needed data, the server gets shutdown when the UPS runs out of battery, I get reports, etc.

I also set the Monitor User and password fields with the intention of starting a server for two additional computer, connected to the UPS - a Windows box and a Raspberry.Pi...

Dear all,

in the current Corona lock-down I finally find the time to start a project which I have in mind since quite a while. I would like to finally build my own FreeNAS server.

The requirements for the system are rather 'standard':
  • I want to use it mostly for backups and for storing/accessing/streaming photos and music.
  • The data should be natively encrypted.
  • 2-3 people might need to access data in parallel.
  • Due to my current flat situation the server will have to...

I am receiving the following error and attached is a picture of the basic jail settings I am using, the rest are the default settings. Im not sure if im using the incorrect interface (em0) or if something else is my problem or maybe my default route (to my router that it is hard wired to). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am new to freenas. I have my freenas server running for 2/3 months and now have all my media on it. As most beginners I jumped in used whatever crap I had.
Now that all my media is on it I am worried about losing data. So created a better machine and I want mirrored drives.

I would like to know the way to switch over to my new machine, with mirrored drives without losing my data.

I have read\watched several tutorials and suggestions, but am worried.

my setup: old machine...
