Hi all,

I now have this test machine with 4x SATA HDDs and 2x SATA SSDs. My current production setup (same number of drives) uses a RAIDZ2 for "storage" and a mirror for my VMs.

I want to toy with this test system setting special_small_blocks to 16k for my VM ZVOLs and see how that works out. Would you recommend keeping the RAIDZ2 for the HDDs and adding the mirrored SSDs as the special allocation vdev, or should I setup everything as mirrored pairs? And either way - why? ;)...

FreeNAS 11.3 completely freezes from time to time after upgrading

Hi all
I have a strange problem with my installment.
Previously I had Freenas installed on a USB drive with version 10. It worked with no problems, but I decided to switch to a SSD disk becasue I read that it would be better nowadays. I bought a SSD disk and installed the nevest version on that. (FreeNAS-11.3-U1, AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Quad-Core Processor, 8GB RAM )

Everything works except that freenas completely freezes from time to time. It stops responding to ping, the console does not answer...

Would appreciate some community feedback here. I have written (and shared) a few scripts for my FreeNAS server which the enduser needs to edit to update their email address, and I was looking at how I could remove this step, to make the scripts even easier to use.

My freenas tested with iperf3 and I encountered uploads of up to 10G, but when iperf3 added the parameter -R, it was only about 5G when downloading. In the same network environment, my upload and download between win10 and win10 can normally reach 10g. The network card is inter x520-da2. Make sure it is plugged into pcie3.0 x4. Freenas 11.3 and Deluge Plugin setup

Hello all

I just clean installed Freenas 11.3 in a virtual environment (which is irrilevant given the below, anyway 8GB dedicated RAM; I use freenas with same hadware/vm since version 9)

I installed Deluge Plugin from the GUI (using default settings, I only specified DHCP, the name of the iocage, hostname and domain)
No change/edit in UID/GID in or out the cage and no change in user (sysrc) running daemon (which is 'nobody')
I can access the web interface but can't donwload anything...

Hi, I think I have an issue with OpenSSL within FreeNAS freebsd jail.

My FreeNAS version is 11.3 Release
My jails have been updated to use 11.3-RELEASE-p5 as the base

I'm installed nginx and openssl from pkg within the jail. The openssl version from pkg is installed within /usr/local/bin/openssl.
The pkg version is OpenSSL 1.1.1e 17 Mar 2020

There is another version of OpenSSL installed within /usr/bin/openssl.
The jail version is OpenSSL 1.0.2s-freebsd 28 May 2019

I am planning a build for my first NAS system for home use. As I read info on this site and others I waver between high quality and trying to stay in a budget. I'm trying to install the non-premium plex plugin and I keep getting the following error message:

SMB service failed to start. HELP!

SMB will not start. Running 11.2 stable.

SMB worked fine on my first install but I screwed up permissions so bad somehow Freenas wouldnt even start so I reinstalled and reimported my pool.

I've reinstalled twice now with the same result.

Vanilla install smb toggles on. I reimport my pool and add a smb share, it loads for about 30 secs and says "call timeout" real small in the corner. After that SMB will not start. Even if i delete the smb share it still won't start.

I don't get it, im...

Cloud sync best practice?

Have FreeNAS up and running smoothly and now need to setup cloud sync to B2. I've dug around to try and find some best practices... to no avail. Do most folks just make a bucket for the whole pool or backup by dataset? Also, if backing up iocage, does it grab the mounted datasets? Thanks in advance.

New build - validating components

Looking to build a home FreeNAS server. Primary functions in order:
  1. Bulk storage (photos, system backups, etc)
  2. Video (note below)
  3. Possibly storage for home camera system
I haven't decided on Plex on this system - I already have a Plex server on an ESXi system and plan to use this build simply for storage. If having the Plex app and storage separate significantly degrades experience I'll look at this again. I would not expect more than one video to be playing...

Looks like I am joining the Intel Avoton death train because my NAS suddenly won't post. IPMI works but no matter what I tried it wouldn't post. The only way I could make it start and work for a few minutes is by heating up the passive CPU heatsink with a dry blower (no joke). This way it actually boots up and keeps running for roughly 5 minutes and after that it just shuts down with only the fans spinning and mobo lights are still on. This way I managed to flash the latest BMC and...

Hello all, I recently upgraded my Freenas with a SAS HBA that is working great, but due to wanting to optimize PCIE lanes, I had to move my Intel 10gbe NIC to a new PCI slot. When I did this my connection speed dropped form 10gbe down to 1gbe. No other system changes were made. The server is connected directly to my windows machine on a different subnet so there isnt any hardware in between.

My thought is that there has to be something in the freenas settings that I am not thinking of.

Drives show up in any version other than 11.3 U1

Hardware: Dell R720xd, 12x4TB SAS, 256GB RAM, Dual E5-2637v2s, H710 mini in IT mode (shows as "Avago P20")

Keeping it short, in FreeNAS 11.3 U1 doesn't see my drives in the GUI. They show at POST, they show up as FreeNAS starts and enumerates all the devices, just nothing in the GUI. The drives were previously used in 11.2 U6 and ran for 6 months but were all scrubbed using DBAN so there's nothing on the drives, was a 7 pass DoD wipe.

I can confirm the drives do show up and can be used...

my freeNAS (11.2 U6) was not responding lately, i also had this alert:
"Boot Pool Status Is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected."

The data corruption seems to be on the usb-boot-drive, so i stored my config and prepared for a reinstallation of freeNAS on a new usb-stick. But before i do that (because i am currently waiting for the new usb drive to arrive via mail) i wanted to see if updateing the system from...

Hi all

I have installed NextCloud 18.0.2 on my FreeNAS 11.3 server and installed the latest OnlyOffice with Community Document Server
When trying to read/create a word/excel/pp document I receive the following error:

Community document server is not supported for this instance, please setup and configure an external document server
only linux based servers are supported

I think I have read somewhere that OnlyOffice might not work on AMD plattform, only Intel platforms, is that really...
