Hi.

I have a Freenas unit rear a sonicwall.
I'd like to update the public IP to Dynu.net but i'ts not possible from the sonic.

Is it posible to install any client in freenas for working with dynu.net?

I used to use denyhosts but ran into issues with it after an update of freenas in the past.

looked into fail2ban which can do the same thing, hope other people find this useful.

Purpose: Block SSHD attempts after multiple failed attempts as the amount of attacks i get slows my connection down.

Tested and written for FreeNAS 11.1

Create a new jail called fail2ban

create new storage for the jail

Source: /var/log
Destination: /var/newlogmount
Readonly = yes...

Hello,

I need your help on specific problem.

So I've recently updated my Freenas 11.1 install to Freenas 11.3 U1.
The upgrade went well, but I've noticed several slow down on the webUI and with my SMB share.
I thought this was the ZFS pools upgrade that maybe caused it, so I've backup, reinstall and create news pools on Freenas 11.3.

The problem persist, the UI was still slow, and my SMB share were quit "lagy" weird.
I can use them, but with strange behavior. It will copy for a few...

Hello

Am looking to upgrade 9.10 to 11.3. I have burned the latest ISO onto a USB stick and am following the video on the Freenas site. However, it's hanging at the above point. I can select the disk I want to install freenas on and then on clicking ok it just hangs.

Any thoughts?

Im hopping someone can help me here I have a dataset that has about 150Gb but my pool shows that I only have 124KiB I can SMB into that dataset and I can see all my files. im just bewildered on why that dataset won't show me the right size.. I don't have a share to my Main pool to see if my files are on the main pool..

I hope someone can clarify this for me

CIFS & MAC problems with special characters in folder names

I have folders on my freenas which I share via CIFS. On my MAC I go to finder, CMD+K mount via smb://freenas/Pictures

Finder then shows folders with special characters but once I browse into them and try refreshing they disappear and they show as size 0 anyway. Then they pp up again and disappear.

Freenas 11.3-U2 can't access Virtual Machines via network anymore

Upgraded to Freenas 11.3-U2 and can no longer access, ping or ssh into any VM I have anymore except through VNC on the freenas box. I can access Freenas box with everything so network is working just not connecting to the VM's

Any suggestions?

I've searched the forum for this problem and not found it mentioned in the way I am experiencing.
I have just upgraded to 11.2 and most things have worked out well.
Only thing is trying to load plugins (and create jails).
This is what I get

Hi,

I have a problem with my FreeNAS. The status is degraded with too many errors on one disk. It put the zpool status in a screenshot.

I also ran multiple smarttests (short and long). I also include this screenshot.

I also tried a scrub with no effect regarding the degraded state of the pool.

Do you have suggestions what I can do to fix the problem?

My NAS ran actually now for 6 years without any change on 9.1.2.8. I just wanted to adjust the snapshot tasks in the GUI and did not find the Volume information in the main screen. As they were not shown, I upgraded to 9.3 which did not fix the missing information:

Since I’ve upgraded to Nextcloud 18.03 with PHP7.2 I’m getting: Exception":"OCP\Files\NotPermittedException
It’s kinda annoying because I have no idea to get it fixed.

None of my Linux virtual machines have controllable mouse cursors in the NoVNC window.

This persists across reboots of the client, FreeNAS server, and through all browsers on multiple machines (Firefox, Chrome, Safari).

When Linux first boots, right at the start of the login/greeter screen, the client's "X" cursor will be visible, and the VM OS cursor will follow the client's. A few seconds later, the VM cursor will freeze in place.

This behavior happens on every VM...

Since updating from 11.2 to 11.3 my mac (latest Catalina release) isn't able to backup to the time machine share anymore. The backup dialogue shows the following error: "the network backup disk does not support the required capabilities". I've already tried several things like deleting and recreating the share. The smb4.conf file does not contain a "fruit:time machine = yes" line. As soon as i reboot with the 11.2 version, time machine backups works like a charm. Does anyone have an idea...

I have been using freenas for about 1-2 years now. I found it always a bit "tricky" given then heavy - "be an IT person to run it". But over time the GUI has become more "accessible" and the system with each release become more friendly and nice to use.

I'm using it as my home nas and small business solution. I mainly run 2 pools, some home data & work data.

I'm considering upgrading the CPU on my Supermicro X11SSM-F motherboard because my current Intel Pentium G4560 isn't powerful enough for Emby to transcode a 4K stream on the fly.
Supermicro says said mobo supports the following CPUs:

Intel® 7th/6th Generation Core i3 series
Intel® Celeron®
Intel® Pentium®
Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 v6/v5.
