Can ping Freenas, but can't access Web Gui

So I'm new to Freenas and new to networking. I just grabbed an old workstation HP Compaq Pro 6305 and am trying to turn it into a NAS. I have it hooked directly into one of my mesh routers (TP Link M4) and have installed freenas. At first bootup, it shows me IP address 0.0.0.0. If I try to set it up as DHCP, it says it can't connect. If I manually set it to the IP address that my router gave it, I am able to ping it from command prompt, but I can't open up the Web GUI. Is there some special...

Hello everyone,

I was just a reader for years on this forum.
But now I think it's time for me to write !

I'm a French CG artist / TD, working for the industry, and also a Freenas user since 2014.

Nice to meet you,
See you soon.

Resilver issues

Hi All,

I'm using 3 fileservers running FreeNAS. Some time ago 1 of the servers was showing a degraded pool so i replaced the faulty disk and initiated the resilver proces.
During the resilver proces the status of the new disk changed to faulted and the pool was still showing degraded. The disk in pool status was showing 55 (errors?) as write. Read and Checksum were both 0.

11.3-U2 update fail

I am trying to do the update from 11.3-U1 to 11.3-U2 and the files download and install OK, but on reboot, I get:
"Trying to mount root from zfs:freenas-boot/ROOT/11.2-U8-2 failed with error 45; retrying"
followed by some waiting and then dropping into a db> shell, where I don't know how to proceed.

Rebooting and selecting an older boot environment works, but of course, I still have no update. I have tried this several times with the same result.

What to do?

Now, looking...

Pool status degraded

Hi,

I have a problem with my FreeNAS. The status is degraded with too many errors on one disk. It put the zpool status in a screenshot.

I also ran multiple smarttests (short and long). I also include this screenshot.

I also tried a scrub with no effect regarding the degraded state of the pool.

Do you have suggestions what I can do to fix the problem?

Using Query Parameters in API GET requests

Hello, I must be doing something very incorrectly.

I'm using this URL path against my FreeNAS server:

$url = "/api/v1.0/account/users/";

it pulls the default limit of 20 users down, great works fine but I need more than 20 users returned so I do this:

$url = "/api/v1.0/account/users?limit=1000";

API returns NULL.

So then I start getting creative and I tried

$url = "/api/v1.0/account/users/limit/1000";

Also returns NULL.

Does anyone know how to send the supported query params to...

Special thanks to mav@ and jpaetzel ...who should definitely know they've helped me considerably to complete this. Thanks for your posts/replies on the forums.
The ESXi/FreeNAS lab is complete.

This can be used as either Direct Attached Storage in Point-to-Point or Arbitrated-loop (2/3 nodes)
Should also be able to use it in a SAN environment with a Fabric.

Here is a short guide for anyone who is looking to set this up...

Creating a daemon user for Deluge

Currently I have 2 plugins running, Syncthing and Deluge.
Syncthing comes with a built in user with the UID 983. Deluge just uses nobody as user with the UID 65534.
So I thought giving nobody access to my pool wouldn't be the best idea or am I wrong with that assumption?

So I created a new system user with the UID 1001 for Deluge via pw[/code]. I had to chown /var/tmp for this user so I could start the daemon without warnings, but the daemon never actually starts. The deluged.log...

Upgrading FreeNAS and going vm

Hi!

I built my first FreeNAS two-three years ago. I used to have a lot of different gear but am trying to downsize to a single server if possible. I'm planning on getting rid of everything but my FreeNAS and my new iPad Pro.

My goal is the following:
* Plex media server (not many more concurrent streams than I have today, i.e. 2-3)
* Nextcloud for personal document storage
* Windows 10 VM when the need arises (mainly idle, but always running)
Possible another vm with Sonarr etc.

Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me understand how to better troubleshoot this issue. Here is my current setup.

I can visit the FreeNAS server via HTTP/HTTPS and SSH. Both work great without any connection issues. I have tried looking through the FreeNAS to see if there are a firewall or permission rules but haven't found...

Forum members.

My NAS ran actually now for 6 years without any change on 9.1.2.8. I just wanted to adjust the snapshot tasks in the GUI and did not find the Volume information in the main screen. As they were not shown, I upgraded to 9.3 which did not fix the missing information:

How to move Freenas - from ESXI to bare metal

During the last year I have ran Freenas as a VM on my Dell r720XD with HBA card in IT-mode. However I want to delete Esxi from my server and then run Freenas directly on the Dell r720XD. I don't have any need for adding additional disks. But I just want to ask the following questions to ensure that I don't mess up. And by the way I have a backup :)

My questions are as follows:
  • How should I do this move/migration on the best possible way?
  • One of my pools is encrypted with...

Need some help with a slow FreeNAS

So, I've been trying to figure out exactly what is wrong with my FreeNAS...

Generally speaking, as a NAS, it tends to work fairly well.. HOWEVER, I've got some major speed issues (or buffering or something) when trying to play media files back via Kodi. (I had initially assumed it was a Kodi problem... but it exists across all platforms and not just in media playback with Kodi)... Ill encounter issues where it will take 1-3 minutes for a menu item to load when exploring media files from...

11.3 Update locked me out

Just performed the upgrade from FreeNAS 11.2 U8 to FreeNAS 11.3 using the web-interface.

Unfortunately that went terribly wrong:
  • The SSH fingerprint changed (odd)
  • My SSH password is no longer accepted. After hitting enter, it immediately prompts for it again, up to 3 times. Does it so fast it might not even attempt to validate it.
  • Can't access the web interface. HTTP page loads, but fails when trying to connect to the websocket with 502 Bad Gateway from nginx...
