Accidentally deleted all jails... How to restore from snapshots?

$

I accidentally delete all my jails/plugins.

I have backup of everything and I have access to the files.

My question is: how do I make them appear again in the system (and in the GUI)?

Do I need to create them all, one by one, and then restore the files? Or is there a way to just restore them, files and configuration and everything else needed by FreeNAS so they "appear" again?

Thanks.
Regards.

Nothing showing in Reporting > NFS Stats (FreeNAS-11.3-U1)

So I just upgraded to this release from 11.2. Great stuff, I love the GUI improvements and speed up. In looking though the reporting GUI I took a look at the NFS Stats page and on my system it reports 0 for every stat. Given the fact that I am actively reading and writing to the system over NFS shares this seems incorrect. Is there something I miss configuring?

Thanks,
Sean

Duplicati Issue - probably permissions

I have managed to installed a FreeNas jail running Duplicati and after some buggering around managed to log in. I then created 3 folders in /mnt called (Install, Music, Data) and then use FreeNas to assign mountpoints to the appropriate datapools in FreeNas - so far so good.

If I then open a shell into the Duplicati Jail, I can see the mount points I have configured and cd into them to find all the files in the datapool(s). whoami says I am root

I then open duplicati up and set up a backup...

Where did My Pools & jails Go?

Morning,

This is first time using FreeNAS and looking forward to the TrueNAS version. I hope I didn't make a hugh mistake. I installed on a old Inspiron 14-5000 single HD laptop, followed a few tutorial on YouTube on how to create shares, install nextCloud and was successful. I bought a separate HD for this project to experiment and test FreeNAS and found this is what I was looking. Moved a lot of files to those shares and for two weeks was very satisfied.

Raid on the Boot Drive

Hi Folks
Totally new to FreeNAS so please feel free to ....
Had a read through the what you need 2016 build document, and things have certainly moved on since there. So on my first build foray I have a few questions.
The first being the title, will be using a Gigabyte Intel C246-WU4 board, and it has two M.2 slots. One of which I will be using as a boot drive, so is it worth getting two and have them in a raid mirror via the MOBO before I install the OS?
Secondly back in 2016 AMD didn't do...

Resilvering Progress Keeps Resetting

I had a drive in a pool which started throwing checksum errors, so I decided to initiate a replace with a spare from the GUI.

The resilvering process has been running for almost two days, (it's a 1TB drive), which I guess is to be somewhat expected. However, whenever I check the status it keeps fluctuating up and down. Below for example is the current status:

Code:
root@freenas:~ # zpool status external-tank-01
  pool: external-tank-01
 state: DEGRADED
status: One or more devices is...

Unmaximising the browser window makes the menu disappear

I have a question regarding the UI. When I open up the GUI on a maximised browser window there is the left navigation that can be hidden with a small “Toggle Collapse” button. When I unmaximise the browser window, the left menu disappears (which is okay, there is less screen real estate available). It keeps being accessible via the “Burger Menu”, though.

However, if the screen is maximised again, the UI changes to a two-column layout and the left menu doesn't show up again. And I cannot...

Hey TrueOS Community! I just wanted to take a few minutes to address what some of you may have already guessed. With a heavy heart, the TrueOS Project’s core team has decided to discontinue the development of TrueOS for the foreseeable future. We’ll still be heavily involved in other Open Source projects like FreeNAS & TrueNAS CORE. We’re incredibly proud of the work we put into TrueOS and its predecessor, PC-BSD.

TrueOS source code will remain available on GitHub for others that may want...

11.3 U2.1. Time Machine share crashes smbd

Hi,

I've spent the morning trying to figure out what's happening and I'm stuck.

I've been using freenas as a time machine backup server since 11.0. It was working fine definitely in 11.1 and 11.2. Sometime after upgrading to 11.3, time machine backups seem to have been silently failing so I started investigating.

I noticed that normal shares seem to work fine, but whenever I start a time machine backup, smbd panics gets relaunched repeatedly:
Code:

Freenas build to move from Synology DS916+

I've had a DS916+ now for three years. Two weeks ago it decided to bomb out on me - 4 disks disconnected from the bus at the same time (according to the OS logs), BTRFS crapped out, all data lost. Recovery has been .. near non-existent. Thank me for making backups!

So, while the nas is still in warranty (and being shipped out as it's diagnosed with having a hardware failure), I am not entirely sure I want to go through this again.
Hence, looking to maybe move to freenas. I've used ZFS in...

FreeNAS 11.3 upgrade removed a dataset

Hello,

My computer server equipment should be in my signature, if it isn't, I will updated accordingly. Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger on the 11.2 to 11.3 release upgrade. With that, I have NOT upgrade the pool, in case I need to go back. All "datasets" I created in FreeNAS show up nicely; however, one is completely gone when I try to see it on my Windows 7 machine via SMB and my PLEX which is directly on the server. So...two different machines/systems and its not showing up...

Replication pull fails

USECASE: I am trying to set up PULL replication using FreeNAS as a receiving host. The remote (data source) is a non-root zpool/zfs fileset on a freebsd server (same LAN) running FreeBsd 12.1-stable. The receiving host runs the latest version of FreeNAS (11.3-U2.1). The host zfs filesystem is on a zpool used only for archiving purposes (not for FreeNAS root or jails). No problem with SSH connectivity between the remote and host.

Failed Local Replication on 11.3

I am running 11.3 Release. I am attempting to replicate pool A (PhotoLibrary) to pool B (freenasty). Both pools are local to each other. Pool A is on the striped SSDs, and pool B is on the HDDs. I get the following error message when the replication takes place. "Replication "PhotoLibrary - freenasty" failed: cannot unmount '/var/db/system': Device busy warning:cannot send 'PhotoLibrary@auto-2020-02-02_00-00': signal received.

Hi,

I just setup a new FreeNAS-11.3-U2.1 install and created a new ZPool. The problem is that I can't create a new dataset for this pool, since I always get the error "[share_type] Invalid choice". I tried all three options for the share type: Linux, Windows and Mac. Any ideas?

Expanding Capacity via extra drives

Hi,

In a QNAP I am able to add more drives to an existing Array and then just expand the Array's capacity.

To confirm, is this not supported within FreeNAS/ZFS?

Asking as I started with a 4 Bay server, now have an 8 Bay one and would love to start using my remaining Bays and so far haven't been able to find a straight answer other than creating another pool and putting disks over there and what not...

Thanks,
