FreeNAS Plex plugin not allowing me to add folders.

In the Plex Media Server (PMS) (after setting everything up and add the mounting points) I go to create a new Library (in the Plex GUI). I start to set up a Library called Movies and it ask's for the folder that the media is in (which should be the folder you added the mount point for right?). I can see the folder I mounted but it is grayed out and I can't select it. So I type in the path manually and Plex adds it, however it responds with "There are no items in this library " even though I...

Missing smb4.conf on fresh install

Hi,

I did a fresh install of FreeNAS 11.2-U5 and then upgraded to 11.2-U6.

I'm tyring to get SMB and Domain Controller services to start but every time I try either, it fails to start the service.

Looking in the logs it's because /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf is missing. Is this normally the case for a fresh install?

I tried changing some of the settings in the SMB service configuration page to see if it would force a re-create of the file but it doesn't.

I've scoured the docs and Google to...

Dear All,

I'm a completely newbie to FreeNAS. I'm trying to install FreeNAS into my old HP Desktop PC (Model HP6005 Pro) for own use. However, I am stuck at the 'boot-up to USB' stage.

1. I have downloaded the latest FreeNAS ISO 'FreeNAS-11.3-U2.1.iso'.
2. I used RUFUS 3.10 to write the ISO to my 8GB thumb-drive (by default partition scheme : MBR)
3. In BIOS, i go to Storage > Boot Order = set to USB Device (1st), Hard-Drive (2nd) & ATAPI CD-ROM Drive (3rd) then save and restart.
4. When...

FreeNAS Failing in Bootloader on both USB and SSD media after attempting upgrade to 11.3-U2

After installing the upgrade to 11.2 several weeks ago, I have had nothing but difficulties and a mostly un-bootable system. I was able to boot 11.2 one time using USB media. When I tried to expand the boot pool to a second USB stick mirror, the system no longer booted at all. Never even got to the resilvering part – system just flat out rebooted. I posted another link in the forum and thought that I had my answer...

FreeNAS 11.3 upgrade removed a dataset

Hello,

My computer server equipment should be in my signature, if it isn't, I will updated accordingly. Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger on the 11.2 to 11.3 release upgrade. With that, I have NOT upgrade the pool, in case I need to go back. All "datasets" I created in FreeNAS show up nicely; however, one is completely gone when I try to see it on my Windows 7 machine via SMB and my PLEX which is directly on the server. So...two different machines/systems and its not showing up...

Hi,

I've been playing around with VMs recently and having some issues in getting things going. My aim is to have one VM running Pi-Hole and another running a folding@home client. I was struggling to Ubuntu 18.04 Server as others have on this board have identified. Now 20.04 LTS is out I thought I'd give it a go.

Installing Ubuntu 20.04 went through easily and I was able to put Pi-Hole on and all seemed to work as expected.
Trying to install a second instance of Ubuntu 20.04 didn't work. I...

Quick 10gbe upgrade question

So i'm patiently awaiting delivery of my Netgear GS110MX for this and just thought i'd check that I should be ok.

My plan is to have a 10gbe link between my server and my windows machine for large file copies. I know the windows box is a simple pci-e adaptor and bam problem solved.

From my research for freenas in theory if i pick up a SolarFlare SFN5122F and a SPF+ module it should be just plug and play and picked up in driver? (obviously with the correct IP assignments etc being done)

Hey guys,

so I recently got the aboved mentioned 10GBE Card. At that point I didn't knew that there is now driver for this card/s.

So I got in contact with the support and they told me to they are working on it.
A few weeks later and I got the driver now:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1j0ybm6nj8gj1n8/freebsd-drv-v0.0.2.zip?dl=0

So my question? Can I compile the driver on the CLI and test it/installed the driver or should I test that on a fresh FreeBSD system?
If so which FreeBSD...

iSCSI multipath advise

Hi,

I am building an xcp-ng cluster with 3 nodes and I will be using FreeNAS for the shared storage over iSCSI.
In FreeNAS, I created 2x 10GBGe Interfaces and set the MTU to 9000.
I am now trying to create the portal and I am not sure if I should click on the Add extra Portal IP option or configure multiple group IDs instead.
Which will give me better result/performance?

Thank you in advance for the advise

PS: is multipath design for 1Gb NIC? Will you do multipath on 10GbE?

Hi,

I'm looking to set up USB mirroring with my 2 memory sticks on my NAS with FreeNAS on, 1 is got the OS on, the other one is empty ready for the mirroring. in case of 1 failing, the other can pick up in the same place as it had been mirroring.

I can access the Web interface, although I'm on the latest version of FreeNAS so no guides yet on how to do this.

Any other suggestions to set up on my NAS for FreeNAS are welcomed.

I'm looking to make this a Plex Server eventually, so I'll need...

Purpose: Block SSHD attempts after multiple failed attempts as the amount of attacks i get slows my connection down.

Hello,

I have been using FreeNAS 11.1-7 on legacy server hardware for 2 years.
This system is working fine and its being used as an iSCSI disk drive.

Last year i got another legacy server hardware and tried to install FreeNAS 11.2-U3, but something went wrong after initial deployment and i got stuck at a blank screen on boot.
I found out that GRUB was deprecated on the 11.2 release and since it had a new bootloader i changed my mind, i was going to make another try later on.

Last week i...

Hi,

In recent weeks two (/dev/ada3 & /dev/ada5) of my eight drives started to report more and more bad sectors and errors so I've decided to replace them.
I followed official instructions for replacing a failed disk https://www.ixsystems.com/documentation/freenas/11.3-U1/storage.html#replacing-a-failed-disk

I've done all of those steps via GUI:
* changed the faulty /dev/ada3 disk status to OFFLINE
* shutdown the system
* physically replaced the failing drive with a...
