Scripted installation of Nextcloud 18 in iocage jail

It seems like there are lot of guides here on installing Nextcloud, and a number of people reporting problems with many of them. So, I figured, why not write another one? This is inspired by the work of @kjake in his scripts to build jails for Unifi and Crashplan, and largely follows the process that @dureal99d documented...

jail resource usage reporting

So netdata as a FreeNAS-plugin is quite nice, but I really wanna know more about my jails.

How much of my installed RAM ist consumed by each jail? The laundry/services graph only shows the total RAM usage. Is it Plex? Is it nginx?
Also, how is CPU usage distributed across jails?

I know of iocage df but that only lists storage use. I need more data! :)

This is what I mean, over half of my RAM is currently hogged by "services". But what services?

TrueNAS 12 Final not showing my disks in WebUI

Hello ! It's my 1st post on this forum.

I have succesfully installed many times FreeNAS 11.2, or 11.3. But i recently tried to install the new 11.3U2 and even TrueNAS 12 Final, but for both i can't find my 2 1 To WD Enterprise disks on the webUI... It's really strange cause i retried the older versions and i've been able to see my disks and create a pool.

But i can find my disk using the shell. Check out my attached pictures.

Raid on the Boot Drive

Hi Folks
Totally new to FreeNAS so please feel free to ....
Had a read through the what you need 2016 build document, and things have certainly moved on since there. So on my first build foray I have a few questions.
The first being the title, will be using a Gigabyte Intel C246-WU4 board, and it has two M.2 slots. One of which I will be using as a boot drive, so is it worth getting two and have them in a raid mirror via the MOBO before I install the OS?
Secondly back in 2016 AMD didn't do...

I am still quite new to FreeNAS - but I think I am doing ok in general. My FreeNAS setup is running since a few weeks - but I have experienced a strange behavior of my boot pool that I don't understand:
I wanted to have one big mirrored data pool of 8 TB for my data, additionaly a "fast" 500 GB SSD to place my VM images.

As boot pool, I decided to buy a small SSD hard drive (first I went with a SanDisk Drive 120GB, nothing special but new from store).
I installed FreeNAS 11.2 U5 on it...

Hi,

I have used FreeNAS for quite awhile- but new to snapshots and replication. I am using version 11.3 and the replication wizard. I have created the pool/dataset on the destination from scratch. Pool is two hard disks striped into single vdev on second freenas server. The dataset gets created successfully- but isnt completely empty. The process writes something into the dataset.

When I use replication wizard I identify source dataset and target dataset. They are both seen by wizard on...

VM issues

Hi,

I've been playing around with VMs recently and having some issues in getting things going. My aim is to have one VM running Pi-Hole and another running a folding@home client. I was struggling to Ubuntu 18.04 Server as others have on this board have identified. Now 20.04 LTS is out I thought I'd give it a go.

Installing Ubuntu 20.04 went through easily and I was able to put Pi-Hole on and all seemed to work as expected.
Trying to install a second instance of Ubuntu 20.04 didn't work. I...

Port 6000/tcp open X11 - it is intended? Any security problems due this?

Hello.

Just scanned my FreeNAS and got the port 6000/tcp as open (X11).

It is a security problem to have X11 accessible via network? If yes, how I can close it?

Thanks in advanced.

Hi all,

I have been playing around for a while with freeNAS and I had a few things working how i wanted but they I messed everything up so did a complete wipe of the machine and started from scratch.

I am now having an issue with running an ubuntu 18.04.4 desktop VM. In the installation, the mouse works fine in VNC, but as soon as it finishes and I boot into it, the mouse on the system just stops following mine. I cannot find any reason it's doing this, and it was working just fine...

Hi!

I use an HDD like boot disk.
This HDD has 80 GB of capacity.
But I would like to buy an SSD with 120 GB and I want to partition it, 20 GB for FreeNAS OS and 100 GB for data.

I didn't find any thread about this.
So I how can I do this?
File System to use? MBR or GUID?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm looking to set up USB mirroring with my 2 memory sticks on my NAS with FreeNAS on, 1 is got the OS on, the other one is empty ready for the mirroring. in case of 1 failing, the other can pick up in the same place as it had been mirroring.

I can access the Web interface, although I'm on the latest version of FreeNAS so no guides yet on how to do this.

Any other suggestions to set up on my NAS for FreeNAS are welcomed.

I'm looking to make this a Plex Server eventually, so I'll need...

Hi !

I'm new on FreeNAS and I need your help.
I want to make changes on a folder of Plex (a plugin).
I need to replace the "Plex Media Server" folder by the same but with my library content.

I can see the iocage with AFP but I can't write any data.
I want to configure the dataset "iocage" to write data with my personal user.

Dear All,

I am very newbie in freenas, myself is long time windows users.
i have a very simple question, i would like to move specific folders and subfolders from one pool to another pool. google there and here, found simple CLI via shell command, cp and indeed do the work. however, as in this trial i try to move 200GB data, its a bit...

I am building a Plex Media Server. I just did a new install of FreeNAS-11.3-U2.1. This is my first server build and I am new to Freenas. Any help would be appreciated.
I got my Pool set up and a dataset set up. I was able to set up SMB windows sharing. I have about 1.5 TB of movies that I am currently transferring over via SMB. The next thing I tried to do was get the Plex plug in and I got this Error......

SMB shares and Pool Datasets

A simple question. Is it best practice to have a one to one mapping with Pool Datasets (of the Windows type) and SMB shares?
E.g. if one wants to create 3 separate Windows Shares, each with it's own properties, should one create 3 separate datasets?

SSD Boot Drives - Mirroring and Cache query

Hi everyone.

Very VERY new to all this so please, be gentle!

Im in the midst of repurposing some old kit to build a small FreeNAS for home use only. I'm using 2 new 120GB SSDs which first of all I was looking to mirror. I heard that its best to let FreeNAS do this rather than using any onboard RAID setup to do so. My question is, how does that work? When installing and you are asked to pick a destination drive, whats the process of mirroring them please?

Also, and this might be a bit...
