Best way to upgrade storage?

Hi,

My current FreeNAS box has 2 2TB drives which are mirrored and host a pool named DataVol1.

I was able to acquire 2 3 TB drives at no cost. I would like to sell my both of my 2TB drives and use the proceeds to towards two new 3TB drives. The catch is I have data on the DataVol1 pool which is hosted by the 2 2TB drives which I need to keep.

I'm not quite sure on how to proceed. Should I create a new pool and use ZFS send to move the data or can I extend the current pool even though the...

Hi, first off, I'm new to all of this. I'm not a network guy at all. So please be gentle ;) .
Ok, I have already a FreeNAS setup as movies, photos, video, souvenirs for our family.
I have look to back up everything on cloud, but too complicated for me and don't have the money for it.

So I have an old laptop here that "maybe" I thought I could use to backup the FreeNAS once a week but off-site. So I have an external USB 10TB that could be plugged to it. So I could bring that laptop at my...

I am trying to install FreeNAS on a computer built just for FreeNAS. This compuer is wired into my Unifi swith and can recieve an IP. System specs:

SUPERMICRO MBD-X11SSM-F-O
Intel Xeon E3-1240 V5 3.5 GHz LGA 1151 80W
2x16GB Samsung DDR4-2133 ECC Un-Buffer LP Server Memory Supermicro Certified MEM-DR416L-SL01-EU21
Dell H310 6Gbps SAS HBA w/ LSI 9211-8i P20 IT Mode
9x8TB WD Reds (four connected to the H310 card, and five on the mobo)
ADATA 64GB SSD (connected to the mobo)

UPS setup but can't contact externally

I have my UPS set up on FreeNAS and it is shutting the machine down properly. I want to also shut down my Esxi machines as well and have the bits needed set up on them but can't get it to communicate. I have two UPs's and one is set up on my Synology NAs and the other on the FreeNAS. If I upsc ups@192.168.0.30 I get a response from the synology Nas. However if I do the upsc ups@192.168.100.10 I get no reply and it times out. The routing is okay and I can ping the 192.168.100.10 from the Esxi...

Failed SATA card, now drive issue

Hi all

I had a SATA card fail and when I put in a new one I may have not put all of the drive cables back in the correct place. Now I am getting the following issues:
One of the pools is
There is a continuous errors being shown to stdout -

How can I fix "Authenticate/Decrypt packet error: bad packet ID" errors in Transmission Jail with OpenVPN over PIA?

Whenever I put a certain amount of traffic in my Transmission Jail (e.g. downloading a Torrent at 5 MB/sec or more) my /var/log/messages/ file gets filled with these kinds of messages:

If you’ve been living under a rock: WD Red 2TB through 6TB became SMR drives in their EFAX variant, which is unsuitable for use with ZFS.

After the considerable blowback this created, WD have bound up this wound by bringing back the EFRX (CMR) 2-6TB drives and creating a clear branding distinction.

WD Red: All SMR drives
WD Red Plus: All CMR drives (this is the original all-CMR Red lineup, before SMR was introduced into the Red line)
WD Red Pro: Unchanged, all CMR

Replication over slow connection

I want to replicate the data on my not-yet-existing ZFS system to another not²-yet²-existing² ZFS system, but over a very slow connection that I sometimes have to use for other stuff exclusively.

So my approach would be:
1. zfs send into file
2. rsync the file (with many interruptions by reboots of the devices and the connection and by me needing the connection, but finally it will arrive!)
3. zfs receive the file (finish the replication and have all snapshots and metadata correctly).

I'm having random network drops on my FreeNAS and I don't really know why or where to start to figure out what is going on. I run FreeNAS-11.3-U1 in a VM under Proxmox and have it on it's own network bridge/interface tied to a Mellanox ConnectX-3. The only thing I notice is a spike in other activity on the other interface at the same time. What should I look at to figure this out? Thanks.

Hello, i´m running FreeNAS 11.1 and i have installed the Nextcloud plugin, everything is working fine with SSL and security.
My question is, How can i have my whole LIVE FreeNAS data on nextcloud without duplicity of the data on Jail?

Or maybe whats the best way to achieve this? How can I check my FreeNAS from the cloud service (Ex. Nextcloud)?

Really will appreciate the help.

I was looking at the IX Systems website, I have a setup very similar the iX-3216, same chassis, similar MB, CPU, etc.

So, 16x 3.5" slots, and I do have space for some other 2.5" drives as well as adapters if I want to use some of the 3.5" bays with 2.5" drives.

I would like to follow best practice as closely as I can, or at least see what it is. So, I was wondering, are there sample configurations somewhere that would represent the most typical build-out for one of these if someone...

Hi,

I got a pool "HDDpool" and want to backup it aperiodically every 2 - 6 weeks to the pool "BACKUPpool" using a replication task or a custom backup script using "zfs send | zfs recieve" but I still want daily/weekly snapshots so I'm able to rollback.

I created a recursive daily snapshot task running every day from monday to saturday with a snapshot lifetime of 7 days.
And I created a recursive weekly snapshot task running only every sunday with a snapshot lifetime of 4 weeks.

Hello
I’m building my first FreeNAS server (used to use Debian and/or Synology)
What I want ultimately :
16 SATA HDDs in the ZFS equivalent of RAID10 accessible simultaneously by 7-8 1GbE clients (files, streaming, etc.).
What I already have :
- 16 SATA HDDs (all are 4TB)
- MB : Tyan S7012 with 2x Xeon 5560 and 36 GB of ECC RAM and 4x 1GbE
- a Dell 5524 switch (with 2x 10GbE SFP+)
What I plan on buying :
- 1x Chelsio T520-CR for 2x 10GbE SFP+ (less...
