I am trying to install FreeNAS on a computer built just for FreeNAS. This compuer is wired into my Unifi swith and can recieve an IP. System specs:

SUPERMICRO MBD-X11SSM-F-O
Intel Xeon E3-1240 V5 3.5 GHz LGA 1151 80W
2x16GB Samsung DDR4-2133 ECC Un-Buffer LP Server Memory Supermicro Certified MEM-DR416L-SL01-EU21
Dell H310 6Gbps SAS HBA w/ LSI 9211-8i P20 IT Mode
9x8TB WD Reds (four connected to the H310 card, and five on the mobo)
ADATA 64GB SSD (connected to the mobo)

I just had to RMA two SSD's because they died after 10 months of Zoneminder video data processing taking place on them. This resulted in more than 400TiB of write activity. First thing that came to mind was to move the memory map file used for this to my HDD pool but to be honest, no storage media is made for 20MB/s continuous write 24x7. salve carissimi
senza dilungarmi troppo non ho disponibilita economica per permettermi un nas tipo Synology e mi serve un nas gratuito.

Mi stavo chiedendo se fosse possibile da FreeNAS controllare i dati in remoto fuori la propria rete domestica anche a computer spento?

Data la mia inquietudine verso sospetti hacker o virus come Cryptolocker è possibile buttarci insieme anche una VPN?

Disks ain't detected

Hi mates, i am using FreeNAS 11.1 and i just wanna make a ZRAID1 with physical hard drives. What i did is I just connected disks via sata directly to motherboard and launchd FreeNAS 11.1 and i can not see these disks in section "Disks". What i have to push to make my disks be seen.

Motherboard: MS-7B79

UPS setup but can't contact externally

I have my UPS set up on FreeNAS and it is shutting the machine down properly. I want to also shut down my Esxi machines as well and have the bits needed set up on them but can't get it to communicate. I have two UPs's and one is set up on my Synology NAs and the other on the FreeNAS. If I upsc ups@192.168.0.30 I get a response from the synology Nas. However if I do the upsc ups@192.168.100.10 I get no reply and it times out. The routing is okay and I can ping the 192.168.100.10 from the Esxi...

Found a small issue with my FreeNAS 11.3, fresh install.

SMART won't start, I looked up online some people said i should disable any drives that do not support it, however doesn't seem to be the case since 11.2 that wasn't an issue running on the exact same enviroment/hardware.

The boot drive is a Hyper-V virtual drive, and I thought maybe why not just try to disable and reboot the entire system but that didn't work, all the other drives show up as it should and you get their serial...

Hi,

i get following error:

I have 6 HDDs (WD Red Pro 6TB) and a broadcom 9207-8i controller. I get this error for every HDD so i doubt the HDDs are broken.. smartctl short test is working..What could that be?

The general idea is to run daily backups to a share on my main FreeNAS box and then replicate for a second and third backup copy. Unable to edit specific users via the GUI / Save button inactive

I recently discovered that I'm unable to edit users that I've created for various jails. As you can see in the image below, the save button is inactive.

I tried changing different parameters but the button never activates.

Another aspect of my question is how do I give a new user permission to run commands or scripts?

S.M.A.R.T. Services Error When Restarting

I got a report that the smart daemon stopped running. When I navigated to the services list and attempted to restart the service I get an error saying that it is unable to start the service. If I navigate away from that menu and back I unexpectedly see the service listed as running. `$ ps aux | grep smartd` reports the service as running as well. I'm interested in what is causing the error to appear in the first place and whether it was something I did and whether I should feel comfortable...

Replication and snapshots lifetime?

Hi,

I got a pool "HDDpool" and want to backup it aperiodically every 2 - 6 weeks to the pool "BACKUPpool" using a replication task or a custom backup script using "zfs send | zfs recieve" but I still want daily/weekly snapshots so I'm able to rollback.

I created a recursive daily snapshot task running every day from monday to saturday with a snapshot lifetime of 7 days.
And I created a recursive weekly snapshot task running only every sunday with a snapshot lifetime of 4 weeks.

Error installing Transmission Plugin

I had recently updated FreeNAS from 11.1 to 11.2 and upon doing so I deleted the old jails and plugins set up during 11.1. I had a Plex/Transmission combo on 11.1 and if I'm being honest is basically the only thing I use my FreeNAS server for. I saved all my movies and directed the new Plex plugin to that folder. The issue I'm having now is every time I try to install Transmission on 11.2 I get the following error:

I have installed Lidarr into a jail and everything is up and running, however I have one error message I am trying to correct. I get the message "pcalc could not be found. Audio fingerprinting disabled." I have looked for an answer to this could not find anything that seems to work best. I did try pkg install chromaprint but got a return message say it was already up to date.

Any help is much appreciated .

Hi all,

I've been playing around on my test bench and I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong.
I am using TrueNAS core as a backend storage device for an ESXI host. I installed 2x Samsung 480GB SM953s and set them up as a dedupe VDEV on the pool where the iSCSI target is located. I ZVOL I created for this testing is set to be sparse.
For testing purposes, I setup a VM with thin provisioned storage and cloned it 3 times. The resulting size being reported was ~80GB in VMWare and ~69GB in...

FreeNAS 11.1 - UEFI or Legacy BIOS During Install?

Hey All -

Redoing my server from scratch and am installing 11.1 onto my SuperMicro X10-SL7 board with 32GB ECC and several WD40 drives.

During the end of the install it asks me to either select EFI or BIOS - what's the best practice here and what is gained/lost?
I know my board supports both modes - just not sure what it does to FreeNAS.

What solution to choose for reliable use of zfs, jbod or Simple Volume?

Good day to all.

Problem:
Installed all the disks (24 pieces of 14 TB each) in jbod, but the FreeNAS does not see them.
I transferred the disks to Simple Volume, in the system they began to be displayed.
Questions:
I want to collect from them a pool of two vdevs of 11 disks (+ 2 hot spare). Will it be reliable?
Maybe then it is better to buy a new HBA?
