Installing Latest Stable Version - GRUB Rescue

Installing on a Dell Poweredge 1950 iii onto a lexar USB drive on the internal USB slot of the server goes fine. When I remove the installation drive from the server and attempt to boot to the drive I receive this;

GRUB loading..
Welcome to GRUB!

error: unknown filesystem.
Entering rescue mode...

Then just gives me the GRUB command line, this happened with two different installation medias on the latest stable version of freenas. Only happens in BIOS mode (server does not support UEFI)

Hi guys,

Having some issues with my setup here, and perhaps someone can help me figure this out.

Installed from build FreeNAS-10-MASTER-201612250513-698ff22

So far I have stumbled on two things:

  1. I tried to install v.10-beta2 on a mirrored SSD setup, and it took me some time to figure out that this doesn't work at all, at least with my setup.
When selecting to install to my two SSDs during setup freenas will hang on the loading screen while loading plugins.
    The last message...

How to install the mfi driver Freenas 10

Sorry if this is the wrong section, I wasn't sure if I should post this under Freenas 10 testing or Hardware.

I have a server I would like to test Freenas 10 out on. Unfortunately this server has a dell H700 RAID card, not only does it not support JBOD but Freenas 10 doesn't seam to see the controller or drives at all. However Freenas 9.X works an can see the controller.

Is there a way to add the driver to Freenas 10 kernel?

I believe the working driver is this one...

Seafile docker

I'm trying to install the seafile docker but keep running into issues (https://github.com/JensErat/docker-seafile). One step in the manual states attaching -- /bin/bash as parameter. Can this be done through the UI?

Further down the tutorial it states: Run the image again, this time you probably want to give it a name for using some startup scripts. Can this be done by simply recreating the docker through the UI with the new parameters? Of course making /opt/seafile the same as...

How to move from virtualbox to iohyve?

Hi,
as I am using virtualbox with several ubuntu machines on my freenas machine and this will no longer work with 9.10.2 I decided to move to iohyve.
I was able to do the basic setup and also able to install a VM with debian.
But: how is it possible to move my old virtualbox machines into iohyve? I have the .vdi files and read that these have to converted to raw files with qemu but I was not able to get qemu running in freenas and even if how to continue?
Can somebody describe the way from...

Issues with Snapshot/Replication Calendar Tasks

I have a couple issues with the snapshot and replication calendar tasks. I'd like to check to make sure I didn't do anything wrong before I open a bug (or a few bugs):
  1. Tasks created with a '-' character in them successfully create, but never execute. When executed with the 'run now' button they succeed but never spawn the actual task (ex. a snapshot is never created)
  2. The 'show more' button on the calendar is not scrollable - if you have many datasets that you are...

Recommended SuperMicro Motherboard for FreeNAS

I have currently a 16 bay SuperMicro rack mounted server with an X7DB8+ motherboard and a couple of IBM M1015s running FreeNAS 9.3. I have tried multiple times to upgrade this system to 9.10 but it just won't do it. I'm beginning to think it is because of unsupported hardware.

I would like to upgrade the motherboard to something newer and therefore upgrade my system to 9.10. Can someone tell me the recommended SuperMicro motherboard with good support for FreeNAS 9.10?

Thank you,
Brian

Where can I sell my FreeNAS build quickly?

Hi everyone,
I am relocating and the international shipping is very expensive. Where can I sell my FreeNAS build quickly? I need to sell it within next few days.

I am uncertain about its chances to be sold within few days on eBay. FreeNAS forums doesn't have a marketplace, but selling a custom build like this is best suited for a savvy audience like the one here.

What are my options?

Thanks for your time.

Multiple sites FreeNAS, AD and DNS

Hey all,
I currently have a windows 2008 (just 2008 not r2) domain with 15 remote sites connected via lan to lan vpns.
At each site I have a small FreeNAS server versions range depending on the install date. Oldest version is about 2 years back.
I am using FreeNAS for the users home shares and the local facility share.
Each facility has between 3 and 8 people who are domain users.

I seem to be running into a few issues that stem from connectivity back to the home office when we...

FreeNas Buildout - Mid range

Hello All

I've been reading the forums with interest, and hopefully have pulled together the relevant threads on how to build a good rig. I'd appreciate any critique, on the below, which is replacing my ageing, and no longer working 5 bay / 15 TB Nas. That was a atom, with 4g, running a mix of WD reds and Greens in raidz. I didn't think it would last as long as it did when I built it out with freebsd in 2009, but it did well, eventually moving to ubuntu 14.04 with zfs support. Here is...

Adding Jail Storage to Owncloud/Nextcloud

Hi guys,

I upgraded my Owncloud plugin a few days ago and it broke everything, so I wiped it out and am installing Nextcloud since I've been meaning to do that for a bit now.

However, when I go to add storage to my jail (adding, say, /mnt/Storage/Media on my pool to /media in the jail), Nextcloud doesn't pick up the directories like Owncloud used to. I reinstalled Owncloud, but it looks like the new version of that doesn't do this either...

So my question is: how do I add Jail Storage to...

built-in/system user question

Hey everyone, I have done a quick search of the forums and google, but didn't find anything so I thought I would try here.

I was attempting to add the user 'media' to my setup after installing several plugins and hoping to iron out some permission quirks.

To my surprise, there exists a user 'media' already -- it's a built-in/system user:

user ID 8675309, group ID 8675309, Full Name: Media User....

Is this a standard built-in user? If not, how can I remove it and it's matching group as...

Still need same UID:GID for docker/jails in 10?

Just a quick question, but do you still need to have the same UID:GID for users and groups in the dockers for things like plex, sab, etc? Or do you still need to manually make a service run as a certain user to give that app access to your data or is that a thing of the past now?

Greetings FreeNas Community!

Where to start - I came here to learn about FreeNAS like everyone here. I create my first and only FreeNAS server about 6-7 months ago.

32 GB RAM
RaidZ2 - 5x 4TB drives (Looking to upgrade to 6TB drives once the market price and department budget is good)
64GB ZIL
120GB L2ARC
Xeon E3-1276 v3 @ 3.60Ghz

SnapShots every hour with offsite backup every night.

For a small business of 30 users (mix of client OS - OSX, Linux, Windows) on CIFS - average user is just...
