Time Machine fails to authenticate with NAS back-up disk

Hi all,

I am using an iXsystems FreeNAS Mini-2.0 running TrueNAS-12.0-U1.1. My problem is connecting to the NAS time-machine share. My new laptop can find the NAS share, but attempts to connect have failed to an error authenticating with the username and password I created in my NAS.

The username was confirmed using the TrueNAS GUI (Accounts > Users) and I re-entered the password just in case: Even so, every attempt to connect fails to the error authenticating message. Here is the message...

Reversing an extend operation

Hi all,

I have a small NAS for my home just to mess around, 4x4TB IronWolves, SSD boot in a mirror and had another SSD for jails. Today I added an LSI 9211 card, flashed it, all went well. I wanted to mirror the jails pool to a new SSD I hooked up the card and installed (same brand and size).

I somehow thought that the extend operation will do this. Of course, it added the new disk as additional space and striped it. :(

Is there any way to reverse this, or is my only recourse to blow...

Raidz1 4 disk array with 1 failed disk not showing degraded

Hi all, thanks in advance for reading this post and for trying to help.

(Details of full hardware hardware at the bottom of post)

I have a storage configuration of 4 pools of 1 Vdev in each containing 4 drives. Three of these pools are healthy but I have lost a drive in one of them. After a restart instead of a degraded pool, the whole pool is offline. It is recognized in the early "boot" message but the GUI just shows it as offline with no information, unsurprisingly the pool is also not...

VMWare iSCSI POOL structure

Hello

We currently have a VMware iSCSI POOL thats pretty critical to us. We learned a couple days ago of what not to do with our storage system the hard way so we turned to the boards. We think we're smarter at this point and trying to re architect it starting with this POOL.

For the first POOL we are going to use 8 4.3TB HGST drives. After reading "The Path to Success for Block Storage" and "Some differences between RAIDZ and mirrors, and why we use mirrors for block storage", we...

Snapshot Replication failed due to partially-complete state

Hi all

I am having an issue with replicating a Snapshot between a Freenas 11.3 to Truenas core 12 hosts.

The Snapshot appears to be partly replicated from what I can see from the alerts.

I have tried to delete the snapshot on the receive side but the Gui wont allow me to.

Can some please point me in the direction on how to get this to send ?

Please see blow for the error.

Mini XL+ only sees 2 of 8 drives. What to check?

I bought a Mini XL+ shell and installed 8x8TB WD Red Plus drives in it. After powering it on for the first time (which happened the moment I plugged in the power cord) the system seems to be identifying only 2 of the 8 drives installed, in addition to the OS and L2ARC drives. There are no lights on one of the bays and during boot I see a series of ATA errors. See attached photo. Also, during boot, there's this horrible, staccato, screeching and scratching sound that puts me in mind of a head...

SMB share migration from 11 to 12, differences in samba settings on old vs new shares

I've finally updated from 11.3 to 12.0-U2.1.

I'm updating my own docs, and am comparing the output of testparm -s for samba shares that were originally created in 11.x vs new (test) shares that I've created in 12.0. I've observed a few differences. I'm trying to understand what the new options are, if I want them, and how to update the old shares if appropriate.

1) What happened to the "UNIX extensions" option? I can't find it anywhere in the UI now.

2) Shares newly...

Cannot disable nfs autostart

Hi,

I've got a weird problem using Truenas 12.0 U2.1. Whenever I reboot my machine, the nfs service starts automatically, even when the "Start Automatically" checkbox under "Services" is not checked. In "Sharing > NFS" I don't have any shares configured. Is this a bug or are there any hidden dependencies? Any suggestions how I can stop the nfs-service from running on reboot?

Thanks in advance

Recent Upgrade to TrueNAS- Network adapter reduced to 100BaseTX

My mainboard is a Supermicro 10slm with 2 Gigabit network connections enabled (igb0 and igb1). While troubleshooting communication with the NAS was slow, I noticed that igb0 reported being 100baseT, which, in turn, explained why iperf reported only getting 96Mbit/s transfer rate. I don't know why this adapter is stuck at 100Mb/s. I was able to swapped the ip address to the other adapter and throughput is now reported at 940Mb/s.

I wonder if this is a coincidence, or something related to...

New to the network world other than basic configs and have been trying to get OpenVPN Server up and running on Truenas 12.0-U2 for a connection to my iPhone. Followed an online tutorial recently and am now able to create the connection from my server to the iPhone from outside of my network. I am able to ping my phone from within shell of the NAS, however I can't ping anything from my phone back to the NAS. I have tried a bunch of different things found online, but so far have not hit on the...

I am looking to move off truenas to rockstor because not being able to get a backup on usb to put in the firesafe just leaves me too uncomfortable.
Not to mention my lack of experience with ZFS the strange import messages i receive on boot since moving to v12.

is it possible to mount BTRFS drive to be able to transfer the data. I don't have a 2nd system i can use.

Switched motherboards, had to create a new boot disk, no backup config

I had an issue with my old motherboard failing.
I bought a replacement motherboard that is the exact same, added all the components, tried to boot, and got an I/O error.
I assumed (incorrectly) that my thumbdrive was the issue. I wiped it to install a new copy of Freenas.
After much monkeying around, I've got Freenas up and running, but I've lost my configuration (because why would I need to backup something when I'm switching to the same hardware /s).

Currently the main issue I'm...

New to This forum, and hopefully upcoming newbie to a TrueNAS Core system.
I am from Denmark, so my English could be better.

I am in the process of putting together a TrueNAS system as my new NAS/home server. I have little experience in diy NAS systems, but have after hours of reading decided that a TrueNAS system properly is the way for me. I am currently running a Synology NAS.

The system is going to be my NAS server as well as my media server for either streaming devices to my Chorme...
