Second (multiple) iSCSI connection from the same ESXi host to the same FreeNAS, problem

Plan to upgrade to TrueNAS soon. For iSCSI, I guess, this should make no difference.

Wasted several hours trying to establish a second iSCSI connection from the same ESXi host to a new ZVOL (zvol2) hosted by the same FreeNAS 11.3 server for my homelab.The Authentication method is Mutual CHAP which works fine for the first ZVOL (zvol1).

On Freenas I did:
- create zvol2
- Portals: created new (#2) with: Mutual CHAP, same Discovery Auth Group as zvol1, same IP, port: 3261 (zvol1 is 3260)

An Unexpected Network Error Has Occured

we're running two TrueNas 12 instances, and both of them have an issue with "an unexpected network error has occured" when we use them with windows over SMB. nowhere ever does this issue arise with our windows machine when we're doing windows-to-windows transfers.

this is a rather vague error. how would one dig into getting more information regarding this issue? are there detailed windows or TrueNAS logs one can extract? can't really work with errors; these machines are expected to sever...

Intel 11th Gen w NVME RAID5 question

Hello, I'm wanting to build a new server that will serve as a Plex server, among other things. I'm wanting to use the new Intel I7-11700K CPU that I just got, and I would like to have 12-16 NVME SSD's in a RAID5/6 for my storage array. I'm running into a few challenges. I can't seem to find a chassis and RAID card that can pull this off. Any suggestions? I know this is an overkill, but I have a Tim Taylor approach to computing :D

Users, Groups, Home Directory, Pools, SMB Shares - Hierarchy and relationships

I've been trying to figure out this monster for 12 months now and have reached the conclusion that I must be stupid. I simply can't fathom the relationship and hierarchy between of Pool-Dataset-HomeDirectory-User and get the thing to work. I just want access to a FreeNAS SMB Windows Share from my Windows 10 Home PC - version 20H2 Build 19042.867
I have created (according to the iXSystems video tutorial) a User - homeuser - a member of a Group by the same name. 'Homeuser' (user) is...

Pool Setup / Recommendations

I am trying to setup a new server, but maybe I am missing something obvious... If I have (12) 6TB disks... That's 72TB RAW... Run in RAIDZ-2, that should end up with 60TB, minus a little for overhead, right? TrueNAS calculates out 54TB during the creation process, but when the pool creation is finished, I end up with 48TB, which is the same as what the RAIDZ-3 calculates out... But if I do a RAIDZ-3 pool, I end up with a 46TB pool. Now I am unsure about what kind of setup I should be...

Scripted installation of Nextcloud 19 in iocage jail

It seems like there are lot of guides here on installing Nextcloud, and a number of people reporting problems with many of them. So, I figured, why not write another one? The difference between this method and the others is that this method employs a script to create the jail, install all the relevant packages, and configure them. My thought/hope is that by scripting the installation and setup, a lot of the PEBCAK-type errors that come up in such a complex installation can be avoided...

no pull replication from freenas to truenas.

We would like to update Freenas to TrueNAS but make a replication backup first.
So we'd like to go from FreeNAS-11.3-U1 to TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1.
But nothing gets replicated

I configured a replication backup as below on TrueNAS to pull it from Freenas.

Like below :

Nothing gets replicated, nothing gets logged in (/var/logs/ ... )
Neither does manual replication work.
The hosts do resolve the job shows as finished.

Скорость сетевого интерфейса

Добрый день.
На сервере присутствует сетевая карта Intel 82574L Gigabit.

Whenever fiules are uploaded via nextcloud they are created with this permission:
-rwx------+ 1 www wheel
I was wondering if there is a way for these files to be viewable by other users (whether its changing the permissions uploaded files are created with or allowing another user access to see the files that are owned by www).

Hello,
I bought three ssd to usb adapters (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33034187646.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.6cb04c4doK8A5N)
Before I will open dispute I would like to verify here with you if this is really problem of those adapters.

I have three SSD's connected to true nas PC in RAID. But I had to change connections. As replacement I choice Kebidu sata adapter mentioned above.
But when I try connect them to PC I can always see only one in time. I tryed to disconnect them...

FreeNAS 11.2/Ansible Integration - what version of FreeNAS API to pick?

Colleagues,

I'm developing a set of Ansible modules, intended to automate certain aspects of FreeNAS integration. I'm testing with FreeNAS 11.2, and it looks like, that API v2.0 is still catching up with v1.0. For example, this is a valid v1.0 call:

Code:
$ curl -u 'user:password' 'https://storage.local/api/v1.0/storage/dataset/tank/test/' 2>/dev/null | jshon
{
 "atime": "off",
 "avail": 502817193984,
 "comments": null,
 "compression": "lz4",
 "dedup": "off",
 "exec": "on"...

How to setup FreeNAS on a (partitioned) single SSD with boot and jails.

I have a fairly low-use machine, and wanted to run FreeNAS as a partition on an SSD to allow space for jails.

Motivations:
- iocage (i.e. jails) cannot run on freenas-boot. I believe iocage's own recommendations says it won't run on freebsd-boot partitions, and the FreeNAS GUI won't let you either.
- I don't want to have another usb drive or ssd drive dedicated for freebsd-boot, nor do I want to use the full ssd drive for just freebsd-boot. I realize this is not the normal...

Pool degraded now offline, doesn't show any discs in pool

I'm relatively new to TrueNAS. One of the pools I had set up was 4x 4TB HGST in a ZFS2 configuration. Yesterday I got an alert that the pool was degraded as one of the disks was offline. It came back after a reboot. However, today the pool went offline and won't come back. The 3 or the 4 disks shows up but it doesn't seem like they're included in the pool any longer. Can this be corrected? I'm building a new pool with 2 new disks tomorrow and I want to bring this one back up long...

Enable Spotlight in Samba

Hello,

it would be great if samba in TrueNAS could be compiled with Spotlight support. It seams that it is currently not enabled

Code:
root@freenas[11:58][~]: smbd -b |grep -i spot
root@freenas[11:58][~]:

on a samba version with spotlight enabled you should get:

Code:
root@samba:~ # smbd -b | grep -i spot
   HAVE_SPOTLIGHT_BACKEND_ES
   HAVE_SPOTLIGHT_BACKEND_TRACKER
   WITH_SPOTLIGHT
root@samba:~ #
