Can not access TrueNAS from Window 10 laptop

Hi
I am new to TrueNAS and today morning I was finally able to install it on my spare desktop with AMD APU10 processor, 120GB SSD and two 6TB WD Gold enterprise HDD for NAS purposes. I wanted NAS for ripping, storing and then accessing music files by an Arch Linux-based custom-made end point connected toI have many questions but first I need to get it operational.

Internal or external SSD for TrueNAS SCALE boot pool?

I gather that the consensus today, and the official recommendation, is to use SSDs as boot devices.
I was wondering though, if this means *internal* SSDs only, or if it refers to *external* SSDs as well.
I would also know if you would rather install the OS on internal NVMe or SATA SSDs.

Since I would like to maximize my internal SATA ports for storage, I would like to know if this product could be an optimal solution for my TrueNAS SCALE rig.

Hello,

Hoping somebody more knowledgeable than myself can help me with this issue please.

I have a virtualised TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1 on ESXi 7 and am passing through a Mellanox Connectx-4 Lx 25Gb NIC. I can see that TrueNAS is trying to load the NIC but failing. below is the output of dmesg | grep mlx

An Unexpected Network Error Has Occured

we're running two TrueNas 12 instances, and both of them have an issue with "an unexpected network error has occured" when we use them with windows over SMB. nowhere ever does this issue arise with our windows machine when we're doing windows-to-windows transfers.

this is a rather vague error. how would one dig into getting more information regarding this issue? are there detailed windows or TrueNAS logs one can extract? can't really work with errors; these machines are expected to sever...

I've recently built my very first TrueNAS system.
TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1

Intel i5 11400
16GB DDR4 3200MHz
5x4TB Seagate Exos HDD
1x500GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD

I am currently attempting to set up a plex / radarr / sonarr system with the native jail system. For downloading movies and series i want to use sonarr and radarr with transmission. I managed to get everything else working fine on my TrueNAS machine but no matter how much I searched online for a way to connect to my machine from outside my house, I just couldn't find anything.

I would really appreciate it if someone were to help me here, I'd also like if this works with NextCloud too

it would be great if samba in TrueNAS could be compiled with Spotlight support. It seams that it is currently not enabled

Ich stelle meine HDD hier auf lesen und schreiben

Sobald ich die NAS ausschalte oder einen Neustart durchführe springt er automatisch auf "nur lesen" um.
Das passiert auch nur bei dieser einen Platte.
Gibt es da eine Möglichkeit das dauerhaft auf schreiben/lesen zu stellen (den Button "speichern" habe ich angeklickt)

Is there a simple guide on how to set this up?

The manual basically says "create a cloud credential", assign that to a Cloud Sync Task and you're done...

Effectively this does not work for me - I am trying to access a drive shared with me (or i could coy to my own drive if at least that would be working)
Tried running this via gui and also rclone cli, but failed.

Missing "/conf/base/etc" in jail?

Moving from transmission to qbit since I want it to unrar the files and never got that working. QB is all set up and working fine but when I try to install OVPN I've run into some problem.
One of the commands are

Hello,


I have bought 2 x HP 533FLR-T 2-Port 10GbE PCI-Express x8 Network adapter cards


Both of them fail to show up in TrueNAS.


I have not connected a LAN cable to either of them.


How may I install this card?


What I have tried:


1. shell - ifconfig

em0 is the mainboard onboard NIC

Hi,

I do not need a 10 GBit connection.

Client and host should be upgraded to 5 GBit.

How does FreeBSD / TrueNAS operate with USB 3 - 5 GBit network connector e.g. QNAPs QNA-UC5G1T ?

I was thinking of USB 3 connection for the host because of re-useability compared to a PCI E add in card.

If USB 3 for the host is a no-go:

What is a solid 5 GBit PCE E add in card recommendation without a fan?

How to get an encrypted dataset to automatically load-key and mount at boot?

I have an encrypted dataset but every time I reboot my TrueNAS server I have to ssh into the machine and zfs load-key followed by zfs mount. Is there a way this can be done automatically on boot? I'm only worried about security in the event I forget to wipe a drive when disposing or selling after use -- not really concerned about someone accessing my documents on-premise, if that makes sense!

When I create it successfully, the storage space is only 75.15T

More exaggerated If I use raidZ2, I will lose three disks of space
12x8T(7.28) raidz 10X7.28=72.8
When I create it successfully, the storage space is only 64T

ZPool "Unknown" after Unscheduled System Reboot

Yesterday I received an email alert: "freenas.domain.local" had an unscheduled system reboot. The operating system successfully came back online at Wed Apr 7 19:48:07 2021. Going forward I'll call this event the "crash".

I have two striped zpools: hdd1 and ssd1. After the crash, ssd1 showed as "UNKNOWN" in the web GUI. In addition, `zpool status` would only show the hdd1 zpool.

First thing I tried was just rebooting. No luck.
