Hi guys,
Posting from Johannesburg South Africa. I have just moved from Unraid to Truenas. This is on a HP Microserver 36 NL very older machine. Anyway slowly learning how to copy all the old data for our small printshop onto the server and share it.

Truecommand and adding host as system

I am running TrueCommand(1.3.2) in an Ubuntu 16.04-LTS VM on my TrueNAS Core(12.0-U2.1) server.
To that, I have added four TrueNAS system. One of those being the host running the TrueCommand VM.

Everything is fine for a few days (3-4 at the most) and the the trouble starts.

1. It starts sending me an email per added system per minute, and never stops.
2. All logs are empty in the TrueCommand GUI.
3. All Alert Rules disappear, and no new alerts are created after that.

Advice for best setup for disks in a 24disk system

Hi,
I came over a 2U Supermicro system really cheap, and it has a (passive, no expander) SAS3 backplane with 3 LSI 3008 HBAs.
Im looking to add 24 (400GB) SSDs but i'm not sure how to split the disks, seems like mirrored vdevs is a waste of space. But i don't whant to add a 24 disk raidz either.
I also have a 8GB RMS300 i was thinking of using as a slog, if that has any weight in making a decision.

Usecase is Backups and if primary storage fails use it for iscsi to my VMs at home.

If I use raidZ2, I will lose three disks of space

12x8T(7.28) raidz 11X7.28=80.08
When I create it successfully, the storage space is only 75.15T

More exaggerated If I use raidZ2, I will lose three disks of space
12x8T(7.28) raidz 10X7.28=72.8
When I create it successfully, the storage space is only 64T
why？

HP dl380e G8 - P822 - HotSwap

Hi,
I'm new in TrueNAS community and trying to get working my first server.
I've HP dl380e G8 with P822 turned into HBA mode.

Attached disk are directly visible in TrueNAS and I can read all disk S.M.A.R.T. informations, create zpools etc.

The problem is with hot swap. After inserting new drive I got following messages in server console:
ciss0: *** Hot-plug drive inserted, Port=5I Box=1 Bay=13 SN=XXXXX
ciss0: error detecting logical drive configuration (target status)
ciss0...

IP camera under Homebridge using FFMPEG

Hi there,

I'm trying to get my Hikvision cam (model DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3) running on TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1 under a Homebridge Jail.

The Homebridge jail is working well and I've been able to connect my Ring cams, Nest Thermostat and Tuya light devices. But I can't get the IP Camera to work.

In VLC the RTSP stream is working fine: rtsp://user:passw@192.168.1.64:554/ISAPI/Streaming/channels/101 ... (or substream 102)

When manually installing the FFMPEG plugin, I get an error that FreeBSD X86 is...

MIgrating the boot pool

Hi there!

I'm using freeNAS/trueNAS now more then one year. My system has three internal HDDs as my datapool and one internal SSD. With freeNAS 11.x I was not able to use this SSD as bootdevice and system dataset together. So I've devided to choose two USB sticks as my bootpool.

With trueNAS 12.x I've read this is not recommended anymore. I've seen it possible now to use my SSD as bootpool and system dataset together. Is this correct? If yes, is there a simple way to migrate my bootpool to...

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to using TrueNAS - my previous NAS setup being on a Buffalo Linkstation LS-QVL. The hardware failed and after some searching around I found TrueNAS as the best solution with a PC with appropriate hardware.

I've made sure the hardware is at par for the setup I'm planning on by reading through the manual. But I'd really like to know the best raid setup I can have for my setup.

hi, i have setup a new lab and the NFS performance isnt what i expected.

Both servers:
2x10gig LAGG interface (LACP)
128GB ECC RAM
Intel E5-2697v3 x2 cpu
NFS 4 enabled

Truenas server:
OS: Truenas 12.0
47TB Pool with LZ4 compression
(18x4TB SATA Enterprise seagate disks in RaidZ3)
110gig free mem for cache

Client server
OS: Redhat 8.3
30gig Ramdisk(tempfs)

mount string : IP:/mnt/STORAGE2/Share2 /opt/NAS-SHARE nfs defaults 0 0

Is the plan for people to migrate a CORE deployment to SCALE ?

had a loo at Scale and really like what I saw, but it crashed a couple of times on me, so ye def not ready to run the house on, yet. But would def like to look at it when it is more stable.

Hi,
I upgraded one installation to TrueNAS over Easter and FTP sharing stopped working.
TLS is enabled and passive mode is ON and masquerade address is set and port range open in firewall.
And most importantly - everything was working just fine for years.

But after upgrade latest FileZilla client failed to connect with

Intel 11th Gen w NVME RAID5 question

Hello, I'm wanting to build a new server that will serve as a Plex server, among other things. I'm wanting to use the new Intel I7-11700K CPU that I just got, and I would like to have 12-16 NVME SSD's in a RAID5/6 for my storage array. I'm running into a few challenges. I can't seem to find a chassis and RAID card that can pull this off. Any suggestions? I know this is an overkill, but I have a Tim Taylor approach to computing :D

Hi Guys,

although I've been looking around the forums and found several topics about poor transfer speeds whilst doing replications tasks all these threads did not really help.

First of all, this is my setup:

iSCSI-Server
Supermicro 216 chassis with 24 2,5" slots, where 16 are currently in use by SSDs
X10DRH-IT mainboard, with 2x Intel X540-AT2 10GbE (RJ45) onboard
(and several more cards (10GB SFP+, only used for iSCSI connections), but these are not relevant here)...

When a drive drops out I receive email alerts as follows:

Code:
Disk 5490375690185221697 is UNAVAIL

What is the numeric string, and how do I match it to a drive (device, gptid, serial?)

Can't update plex anymore

As the title says, I have plex running in a jail on TrueNAS-12.0-U2.1. I set up that jail a few months ago and made cron job so that it would upgrade plex (using the PMS_Updater) whenever a new release was available. A few ago I noticed that my plex hadn't been upgraded. I tried to then upgrade it manually but I get this error:

root@plexmediaserver:~ # cd /usr/local/PMS_Updater
root@plexmediaserver:/usr/local/PMS_Updater # sh PMS_Updater.sh -v -a

Ho assemblato un paio di settimane un NAS pensando di poterlo utilizzare come anche come "host" per un paio di macchine virtuali. Il mio setup attuale è questo:
CPU: Intel E3 1241v3 (supporta VT-x)
Motherboard: Supermicro X10SLH-F (ovviamente anche questa supporta il VT-x)
RAM: 4x Kingston KVR16E11/8 (8GB ECC 1600MHz)
Storage: Non penso sia importante in questo caso, comunque 4x WD Red 4TB ed un SSD Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
Utilizzo l'ultima versione di FreeNAS stabile.
