Dear FreeNAS community,

I am exploring the capabilities of the FreeNAS 11 and FreeNAS in general. In particular, I have installed the PLEX plugin, following this guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaiBWJ2r2Hg), the only difference is that the jail and the multimedia datasets are inside the only hard disk installed in the cpu (for the moment), everything else is the same, including permissions, directories etc. However, when I entered the plex platform to configure it, I got...

Truenas very slow and generating many errors

Pasted below is one of the messages I am getting from the server in e-mail. After waiting quite a while the GUI does appear but then it is extremely slow to log in. I tried SSH and I wasn't able to get connected. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, Did they ever fix it where VM Bhyve would run Windows Server and SQL Server? It's been a while since I've checked but it has something to do with Bhyve not able to run 512 blocks that are required by MS SQL.

Cron Job to Lock Encrypted Pool

I would like to know if it is possible to setup a cron job that will periodically lock an unlocked pool. Having the pool be locked once a week to protect the data I would think should be possible without rebooting the entire computer but I can't seem to find any information about how to do this.

ZFS command line tools missing from SCALE?

I just recently spun up a new NAS server on SCALE and was attempting to send a few datasets over to it from my NAS on CORE and found that the ZFS Send and Receive commands do not appear to be present on SCALE. In fact, it doesn't appear that any ZFS tool are present on SCALE currently:

Are these tools not installed by default on SCALE and, if not, what package(s) need to be installed to add them?

what are the optimal macOS settings?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone is willing to help identify a good/sound set of configuration options for a predominantly macOS client environment for TrueNAS on reasonably "okay/average" hardware that people may have lying around. ← i.e. typical home/hobby use.

Regarding setting up SMB shares (being macOS's default protocol), I've seen many options listed all over the web such as:
fruit:locking=netatalk
fruit:metadata=netatalk
fruit:resource=file
streams_xattr:prefix=user...

what are the optimal macOS settings?

Hi all.

I'm on TrueNAS-12.0-U4 (core) and am having an issue with share sizes reported to Windows clients; I have a pool of 2x 4TB mirror vdevs, so 8TB total size. Roughly half is used, with ~3,2TB available as reported by zfs:

TrueNAS 12.0 Frequent Freeze & Unable to Safe Shutdown

Hi folks.

I have a particularly worrying issue with my NAS at the moment.

It frequently locks itself up - I can't access the webui, jail services, etc. I am able to ping. I have no idea why this occurs - but when it does, I have to press the power button to get it to shutdown safely. (I do _not_ hard reboot)

System specifications:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor
- MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-2133 CL13...

Hi,

I have a freshly installed TrueNAS (https://download.freenas.org/12.0/STABLE/U4/x64/TrueNAS-12.0-U4.iso) on an ESXi 7.0.2 Server as VM, I keep getting this error. I have noted this error starts soon as I have set in the DNS server IP which pings and resolves fine, but the screen refreshes every minute or 2.

Any ideas on how to get this resolved.

Which are the least noisy *large* SATA drives?

Due to my apartment being small, and for practical reasons, my NAS is located just 3ft/90cm from my head when I sit at my desk. The NAS chassis is a Fractal Design Node 304, and for the past ~6 years I've had 6x 4TB WD Red drives in it (WD40EFRX). It's been working fine, and I haven't heard anything from the NAS when the disks have been idle.

I recently switched to 2x 18TB WD Ultrastar DC HC550 drives. Noise levels were a big concern when choosing disks, and comparing the spec sheets for...

Hi All,

Have set up a new TrueNAS 12.0-U4 box and trying to get it to sync with my BackBlaze cloud storage. However, I'm faced with the following error:

failed to authorize account: failed to authenticate: Get “https://api.backblazeb2.com/b2api/v1/b2_authorize_account”: EOF

Have checked and verified:

the API settings for BB on another box
nameserver and default GW settings in Global config
WAF for any traffic blocking

Have manually tried to connect using rclone...

Smartctl running at 100% CPU after only 20mins

So, after only 20 mins of system uptime, my CPUs are pegged at 100%. I believe it's got something to do with the Raid card consuming the SMART data at this point.

This error repeats in the terminal, over and over again, every couple of minutes. I'm assuming something is getting hung, and the process keeps running without terminating, but I've no idea there.

Nextcloud not working

I installed Nextcloud Jail a few months ago and it was running fine. When I restarted the Jail now abd access the Nextcloud IP via HTTP, I get this error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report.

When I access via HTTPS, I get this error...

I am using a cheap 240GB SSD as boot drive but it seems a waste of capacity. Is there any way to utilise the remaining space on the SSD for data?

All Drives In Desk Shelf go offline after Upgrade 11.2 -> 11.3 -> 12.0

Having an issue with all disks in one shelf going offline.
I had the same issue occur last year when I upgraded from 11.2 up to 11.3. At the time I rolled back to 11.2 and the issue ceased to occur.

Presently, just upgraded from 11.2 again up to 11.3 and then 12.0 U3.1. The issue is back again.
I am leaning heavy on hardware failure. However, it just seems strange that the issue started directly after the upgrades in both instances.

Summary of problem:
All of the drives in one disk shelf...

All Drives In Desk Shelf go offline after Upgrade 11.2 -> 11.3 -> 12.0

I don't know if you can help . but I hope you do I am trying to install a plugin and get (newbie to TrueNas)

" Install Error: MoviePlex had a failure Exception: FileNotFoundError Message: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'pkg-static' Partial plugin destroyed"

We got a freenas environment, a typical getfacl . for a smb shared zfs folder looks alike :
(./somefolder)
Owner: Domain\Peter
Group: Domain\domaingroup
owner@:rwxpDdaARWcCos:fdi----:allow
group@:rwxpDdaARWcCos:fdi----:allow

We can fix files to comply with above group@ permissions by typing:

find . -type d -exec setfacl -m group@:full_set:df:allow {} \;
find . -type f -exec setfacl -m group@:full_set::allow {} \;

But that's not ideal...
