FTP login problem (new users)

Hi.

Running TrueNAS-12.0-U8, using the build in FTP, created two users, works fine last week, but now one user cant login, i tried to create a new user, that one cant login too, also tried to delete the user and create again, same problem.
I get the 530 login from the ftp. Any clue why, i tried with other passwords, and i am sure the password is correct.
By the way the build-in ftp still have transfer speed problems when using tls :(

I messed up 1 SMB share and and can't get another one working

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I recently upgraded from a previous version of freeNAS to trueNAS. I had 1 SMB share at that time that was working but now is not and I tried creating another one with an old 2TB drive. The 8TB drive was working until I mucked something up but I have yet to get the 2TB drive working. I can see the 2TB drive on my Widows 11 machine but when I click on it I receive the "You don't have permission" popup. I have been through multiple youtube videos as well as many of...

Drive failing? Advice to turn off?

Hi all,

it seems that I have a failing drive? And I would like to ask for your advice on the safest way to proceed.
A new drive is on the way but it will take 3 days. Is it safer to turn off the server or keep it running until the drive arrives?

I am running TrueNAS-12.0-U8, but this has been going on for a few months now (about six or more). I am still a newbie at this and it's driving me insane. This is random, but it seems like it's been happening about anywhere from two to six times a week. My TrueNAS server has unscheduled system reboots. Can Syncoid tell TureNAS of Deleted Datasets?

We have a hypervisor running sanoid to take snapshots and uses syncoid to push the snapshots to a TrueNAS server. I am wondering, can syncnoid tell TrueNAS of a deleted datasets/or is there a retention policy in TrueNAS to delete datasets that haven't received snaphots in the last X amount of months?

Hey, I am trying to sync two NAS Servers bidirectional using osync (based on rsync). Since I cannot or shall not install stuff to the truenas OS itself, I am trying to do everything in a jail.

Sadly I didn't get it running yet and after some testing around I figured out that rsync does work as expected when I execute it in shell (not inside jail!). However when I run the same command in jail it fails.

So we have been using our Freenas storages (4x) for many years. 2 Primary and 2 backup units (snapshot replication), SAS Drives with SSD caching. Now it’s time to replace these units, because more storage and IO is requested. But we need some advise.

We are planning to use 4x Dell R730xd servers, but because we build all of them the same, i will explain one config.

I upgraded to 12.0-8 and once it rebooted, I am getting a number of the below error messages.
SMB share is writable via NFS protocol and therefore susceptible to CVE 2021-20316.

I use a combination of Linux and Windows clients, so the home directories are mapped with nfs and smb as the login can be from either client.

What do i have to do to fix?​

all interfaces allocated to LAGG or vlan

While trying to setup LAGG at the terminal, I get the message that "all interfaces are already part of LAGG or vlan." How do I correct this? All of the interfaces are un-assigned when I try to setup up the LAGG. I'm not seeing anything in the forum that seems to reference this error.

Evening -

I just installed FreeNAS SCALE recently - and am impressed. Still getting the hang of things and didn't run into this before - probably because the server I was using didn't have encryption. This install does.

It appears I cannot use a passphrase because the system defaulted to placing the system dataset into the default pool. I'm trying to understand the following:

1) What exactly is the system dataset pool?

Hi All,

Which one or combination of the following will give me the best of VM and NAS?
ESXi/TrueNAS/Proxmox/QEME/KVM

I wanted a NAS. I also want VMs. I am purchasing a Supermicro motherboard X10SRW-F with a Xeon processor and 2x16GB DIMM ECC. The motherboard has 10 SATA onboard split across 2 or 3 controllers. I am not sure which of these ports will actually be available, or whether I will be able to pass through these onboard controllers.

Slow read speed on iSCSI

I got my first nas recently and I'm getting quite a lot slower read speeds than write speeds. First I bought a u/utp cable, getting 6 mb/s sequential read but 300-700 write. I connected it with a 1.5m cat6a cable included with the TX401 and got 200 read. Then I bought an S/FTP cable after someone said it might be interference (my ethernet cable is next to the extension cord. Now I get around 200 read but still, 700 write. Separating the cables so they aren't remotely close only gives a small...

I'm very new to TrueNAS, so sorry if it's maybe a noob error :D

I was following a tutorial to install the PLEX Media Plugin but over and over again, I run into the same issue.
