Windows SMB permissions all screwed up after upgrade to 13

I fully admit that I do not fully comprehend SMB sharing permissions. It has just worked until my latest update. I just updated from 12.0-U6 (I believe that was the release) to 13.0 today. Unfortunately, now my SMB sharing is all screwed up and I can not access files properly from other machines. The files are all there, I just can't access them. I have searched for help, but I just was not understanding what people were talking about when discussing ACLs. I started messing with ACL settings...

Enabling custom VM settings

Hi,

I have a requirement to tweak a few settings for VMs that aren't available in the UI.

For example I would like to enable nested virtualization and change a NIC to be of type 'vmxnet3' so I can test ESXi

When using virsh to edit the VM manually the settings work, but any interaction with the VM via the TrueNAS UI results in the settings being wiped.

I realize that TrueNAS SCALE is targeted as an 'appliance' but is there a way to allow custom tweaking of the VM configuration through...

Is TrueNAS SCALE (e.g. 22.02.1) meant to 'gracefully' shutdown VM's?

Hi,

I restarted TrueNAS scale a while ago - and thought "Wow, those VM's got shutdown quickly..." but didn't think much of it.

Today I updated to 22.02.1 - which obviously involves a restart, which again happened really quickly.

This time I checked - and it appears the VM's get no notification, nor 'graceful' shutdown when the box gets restarted? - They just have their plugs pulled? - So all are running their various disk/database recovery stuff when the system starts again.

Bonjour à tous,

Et voilà, j'ai laissé partir mon NAS Syno début de semaine.
Je fais maintenant, officiellement parti de la communauté "TrueNas Scale".
Après quelques galères et tâtonnements, tout fonctionne et j'ai même arrêté ce jour mon serveur Proxmox. Entre les APPS et une VM, j'ai réussi à tout faire fonctionner sur mon serveur Truenas.

Pour résumer : Serveur HPe Gen10+, 32Go de Ram, i3 9100F (Xeon E-2234 en prévision si besoin), carte PCIE avec 2 SSD M2 500Go, 2xWD Raid 12Go et 2xSSD...

Error creating encrypted pools in 13.0

After updating to TN13, I tried to create a new encrypted pool with default options, and received the below error. The new pool does in fact show up in Storage > Pools, though I wasn't offered to download the encryption key.

Where is a VM disk file actually physically located in the pool. Is it hidden?

I created a few VMs and Scale automatically created a Z-Vol for each VM. A Z-vol is in fact a dataset block device located on the Z-Pool.
But I guess it should be a file. I tried to locate the file using the shell as root, but I don't see any files in the Z-Pool dedicated to VMs.
Where is the VM disk actually physically located? Is it hidden somehow?

Traefik redirect issues

Hello,

today I successfully managed to setup traefik as an ingress provider for all apps I've installed on my TrueNAS box. So far so good, I disliked the fact, that PiHole is only reachable, when calling it using the correct path (<domain>/admin). I tried to add a redirectRegex middleware to pihole, redirecting calls to the plain domain to <domain>/admin, but that results in a weird redirection loop when accessing it on a browser.

these drives are almost same by spec... i think exos or ultrastar even better by MTBR better, even redpro and gold costs maybe by 100-150 euro more, any idea why?

hypervisor + virtualized Truenas

Hello,
i was planning to install truenas natively on supermicro+xeon 3, but i saw some discussion that ppl run truenas virtualize and therefor can use HW for virtualization of other VMs - basically no need to have another HW as hypervisor.

Is it possible to say if such a solution is supported by truenas, if its also safe / stable etc? I saw they virtualize it using ESXi.

LSI SAS3008 HBA issues with one drive port (scbusX target 2)

I'm having some issues with an LSI SAS3008 9340-8i HBA (bought used a while back, relatively new to me). I'm quite sure it is an IBM M1215. I have reflashed the card with the TrueNAS IT FW 16.00.12.00. I also cover PCIe pins B5 and B6 to avoid SMBus errors which otherwise prevents the use of all RAM slots, but removing this mod doesn't change the behavior below.

I was using it for only 4 drives (with "port 0") until recently without issue and now when expanding to 8 drives I run into issues...

Error during pool zfs version upgrade. What to do?

I just upgraded to 13.0 without problems - nice. However, I tried to upgrade my pool but the Webgui showed an unspecifed error. So what to do now?

I have tried to look up the version of my pool but it doesn't return any value.
Code:
root@nas[~]# zpool get version storagepool
NAME         PROPERTY  VALUE    SOURCE
storagepool  version   -        default

I don't know if this is the right way to see if my pool has been upgraded. If not what should I do?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Apps not showing up or working after reboot ...

Hi,

I am on the Truenas Scale release version (TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.0).

Yesterday I rebooted my system and noticed that the apps disappeared:

The pool is still there and data as well:

I also tried to reboot many times ... after the last one let it stay online for about 10 hours and the last thing I did was a middleware restart in the CLI with:

"service middlewared restart"

All without success. This is super weird? How can they just disappear without error...

22.02.1- Limited to 10gb throughput?

Hi All,

We're testing out Scale in our lab and have run into something that sure looks like a 10gbit speed cap. We are able to transfer in and out of the unit at 10gbit but when we run an Iperf3 on top of that transfer we find ourselves capped overall to 10gbit still. The server in question has 25gbit NIC's up in 25gbit:

I've had a hunt around but nothing is jumping out at me, is there a 10gbit cap somewhere either via license or by a sysctl?

Fastest way to compare 2 datasets?

Looking to do a file contents comparison in 35 TiB of data. I have both pools on the same machine.

I tried 3 methods they are all terribly slow for this much data:

diff
diff -qrN "set1" "set2"

md5
find "set1" -print0 -type f | xargs -0 md5
find "set2" -print0 -type f | xargs -0 md5
then compare md5 outputs

rsync
rsync -n -arc --no-perms --no-owner --no-group --no-times "set1" "set2"

Thoughts?

Truenas 13 cant show my hdd

Motherboard: X10SLM-F
SAS 9341-8i

Im new iand just install truenas 13 in my computer. I have broblem... I cant see my hdd (8pci) and can see only my ssd (sata place) where i have installed my truenas. What i need to do next? I have tried google about 3 hours and maybe next i throw my computer out of window heh :)

speeding up rsync task

Hello all

I have 2 instances of truenas core. I perform 4 rsync tasks every week to replicate my medias and documents (about 9TB). This takes anywhere between 11 to 14 hours every week. All works fine

in an effert to improve my architecture and performance, i tend to tinker ad Infinium

At the moment both boxes are connect trough a netgear gs724. All connected via gig lan and cat 6 cables

Is there a way to drastically increase the speed of the replications ie connect both boxes via fibre...

Connecting to Truenas with iPhone

I have an issue where I am unable to connect to my NAS will connected to my home wifi. However, if I turn off wifi and connect to OpenVPN, I can connect to the NAS with no problems.

I am assuming this is some sort of IP address issue but I am not sure how to go about troubleshooting this. When I first setup the NAS I could connect with no problems.

For information, I am running Truenas Core 13.0 and IOS 15.4.1.
