System power consumption / UPS readout

I'm using an APC BE750G and I wanted to see what my systems power consumption is under various loads. I ran upsc ups@localhost and here is the output:

Is the current power consumption the ups.load (7%)? If so, is that 7% of 450w -- so 32w? That seems on the low side.
Code:
[root@freenas ~]# upsc ups@localhost

FreeNAS Power Consumption Optimizing??

So i need help setting up my NAS to run at lowest power consumption as possible.

My usage:

It will run 24/7 ish, by that i mean it will auto shutdown on a schedule when I'm at work and start up when I get home from pre set times which i believe i can do in bios but if not it can be done inside FreeNAS i believe.

It will be used to store media and just basic storage, and i send my PC's backup to it but speed is not my concern more redundancy which it has. it will only be ever used by 1-2...

Hello all,

I'm still troubleshooting my build.  As mentioned previously, I have the following hardware:
Code:
Chassis: Supermicro Superchassis SC216E16-R800LPB
Backplane/Expander: Supermicro SAS/SATA Backplane BPN-SAS2-216EL1 with SAS2 expander
Motherboard: TYAN S7012 (S7012GM4NR) Motherboard
CPU: Dual Intel Xeon E5645 2.4Ghz 6 core CPUs for 12 cores
Memory: 64GB DDR3 ECC Ram
HBA: LSI 9211-8i JBOD HBA CARD (Appears to be what I would guess is a Dell H200 reflashed to show up as an Avago...

How To: change sensor thresholds with IPMI using ipmiutil

Many server motherboards, including the Supermicro X10 series, have their fans monitored by the BMC, which automatically attempts to recover stalling (of the motor, not in the aerodynamic sense) fans by spinning them up to maximum (PWM set to 100% speed). This behavior is determined by the sensor thresholds.

Supermicro X10 motherboard fan profiles are controlled via IPMI. Unfortunately, only very basic functions are exposed via its web interface and Supermicro's own IPMI...

Automatic Resilvering

While I was away I received an automated email from my FreeNAS server that it was resilvering a drive.

The volume z2 (ZFS) state is ONLINE: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will continue to function, possibly in a degraded state.

I hadn't seen or noticed any issues prior to this, but being away meant I didn't have a great deal of access and sort of forgot about it. Until I was working remotely today and realised I couldn't SSH into it.

I've taken a...

Ethernet intermittent

I'm a real newb when it comes to networking.  And I'm not sure this is strictly FreeNAS related, but it might be.

I have a Motorola cable modem/router with 4 ethernet ports and wifi.  Generally I've had FreeNAS connected to the router via LAN1 and the dedicated IPMI port, but IPMI also works over LAN1 if the IPMI cable is not connected.  Client computers also connect to the router.  It has always seemed to work well.

Lately I've noticed when I connect my laptop to ethernet, and turn off...

New Highend build with FreeNAS

I am going to be building a large storage array for the compay and I wanted to get some advice from you guys as I will be using FreeNAS to power the build.

The main requirement for me is throughput of the data, both with reads and write, and making sure that it is rock solid build and fully redundant.

I am considering two systems with identical specs. The specs I'll be listing are per server. I plan on using ZFS zend/receive to keep these machines in sync.

The platform I've picked is the...

Scrub reveals repairs two scrubs in a row

Hey guys, thanks in advance for the help.  I have a rather large system (my first freenas build).  I have 129 usable terabytes of storage.  I am running ecc memory and have several r2 vdevs.  Everything has been running smooth for months but recently my scrubs have had to repair some things.  I have scrubs set up every 15 days.  The last scrub 16 or so days ago I noticed I had to repair I believe less than 200k on 2 drives in my most recently added r2.  I had also received an email alert...

Maximising use of NVMe SSD drive

As I have a small server motherboard (that is maxed out at 32GB of RAM, all SATA ports are currently used for the pool) and have just been given a NVME SSD drive, I would ideally like to  use the drive as both a boot volume as well as a L2ARC for the big pool.
Given that the boot volume is hardly busy, and that SSD is far more reliable than the current USB sticks, it seems a waste to not use the majority of the disk for something useful.

Is there a method to set this up?

I had posted a few days ago about problems with read only files (to Windows 10 user) in one dataset/share while another seemingly identical dataset/share (except of name) had no problem.  In my attempts to fix the problem I now have read only files on both datasets/shares.

I searched thru this forum and found discussion of similar problems but no solutions.  Most of the discussions were over a year old.

I attempted to resolve the issue by loading an old config that pre dated the problem....

Multipath Disks and Disks

I am using a iXsystems Certified FreeNAS device. One of the most common annoyances I have run into is when trying to use a disk that was once used in another FreeNAS box. Of course whenever I do a Google search on what to do I run into the typical stuff that you see all over this forum:

Give yourself absolute power:
sysctl kern.geom.debugflags=0x10

Wipe out the disk header:
dd if=/dev/da6 of=/dev/null bs=1m count=100
dd if=/dev/da16 of=/dev/null bs=1m count=100

10gbe Intel X540-T2 stopping all transmission intermittently?

I'm having an issue where i recently installed a x540-t2 into a new freenas box.  I have both ports of that connected to a matching x540-t2 on the hyper-v server (no switch).  I've assigned static IP's for each interface and there is connectivity between the two machines using ms iscsi.  the problem arises every so often where the NIC's just stop transmitting and receiving any data.  I notice this on the reporting page of the freenas box - the interfaces traffic levels just drop to 0.

The...

How to fix syslog-ng - "Error opening file for writing"

Dear FreeNAS community,

I again hope for your guidance. Since I installed FreeNAS 9.3.1 about a year ago I have a strange message popping up in my system log. It does not trigger an alert therefore I ignored it but when ever I have a look on my server it is bothering me. The message repeats until it gets suppresed by the system.

After the latest update, my plex docker just stopped seeing data in folders.  I've checked the permissions of the files in those folders outside the plex docker and they still have the same owner:group as what plex thinks they should have.  The data is still there, just unable to be seen from within Plex.

Import Volume - NTFS disk with Data

Hi,

Before I attempt to do this, I just want to make sure I understand this functionality correctly:

I have an existing HDD that contains my personal data. I wish to transfer this data over to my zpool which I created (RAIDZ,3 disks)

The disk I want to transfer data FROM is in NTFS format. Do I simply connect the drive to the pc, then click Import Volume, select NTFS and then select the disk? Will this import the volume, so that I can access the files? I want to make sure that it...

Hi

Re: FreeNAS 9.10.2-U1.iso

I have recently installed the latest version of FreeNAS on to a 8GB USB drive for my NAS.

The installation appears to install OK, however when booting from the USB, I receive the following messages: (see attached)

Seagate 8TB SMR Archive used as backup, working great

Thought I'd post an update. My full backups are working great with the Seagate 8TB SMR Archive disk.
It's backing up a RAID-Z2 pool with 4 x 4TB disks, so a single 8TB disk can do the backups. (After I set
the backup pool to same compression :). I've probably run 12 backups, of various types, (full or incremtnal),
over the last 18 months. All ran fine, no real problems. (Yes, I only run one backup every 2 months on THIS
disk.)

Backups run a bit slow, upto 18 hours, (6 hours for the...
