Hey Guys,

I have a new Haswell based system so had to install 9.1 Beta otherwise network card isn't found on 8.3.1.

But upon cold or first boot (or first restart) I get an error mounting:
Mounting from ufs:/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a failed with error 19.

This is using a 16gb USB flash drive on a USB 2 port.

See this screenshot for whole screen:

Hi guys,

Yet again im back for a second opinion on what im about to buy before i buy it.

I have a FreeNAS system that uses about 300 ish Watts at max load, its a 6 drive system which is running on a Pentium G4400 and 32GB DDR4 ECC Memory. All of it less than a month old still, I think.....

I also have a router, modem and switch that uses id say 100W combined.

As of recently ive had a few power outages in the house while the server has been on, fortunately no damage has been done to the...

Cannot replace disk (encrypted pool)

The disks in my pool "tank" are encrypted by key only with automatic unlock.

unix::>volume show

Code:
Volume name Encrypted by key           Encrypted by password Automatic unlock          Providers Status Mount point

tank                       yes no yes                       ALL                       ONLINE /mnt/tank

To simulate a real drive failure and resilvering, I want to replace disk da19 (8TB member of volume "tank") with disk da0 (8TB unallocated drive).

unix::>disk show

Code:

New Highend build with FreeNAS

I am going to be building a large storage array for the compay and I wanted to get some advice from you guys as I will be using FreeNAS to power the build.

The main requirement for me is throughput of the data, both with reads and write, and making sure that it is rock solid build and fully redundant.

I am considering two systems with identical specs. The specs I'll be listing are per server. I plan on using ZFS zend/receive to keep these machines in sync.

The platform I've picked is the...

CIFS Slow Performance Analysis

Hi guys!

I have a few problems with our fileserver, not really sure where to start adressing the problem. I hope I posted in the correct subforum. I am looking forward to get your input on this issue :)

We are a photography studio and use our freenas server as main filserver.
We transfer our photoshoots from a dedicated machine on to the freenas via cifs. Shoots are between
25 and 60 GB each, all RAW images. Freenas is connected via a gigabit wired connection. We probably do up to 10/12...

FreeNAS Filer Head

Greetings!

I've been exploring FreeNAS for a couple of weeks now, and I wanted to share some results and ask for some feedback.

I obtained a pair of Netapp disk shelves on the cheap and decided to build myself a filer equivalent. Originally I had tried to pass the HBA through to a VM on my ESXi host, but it didn't work on 6.0u2 or 6.5. (Interestingly it did work on 5.5, but I do not want to roll back my environment.) When I RDM'd the disks to the VM it worked, and I had very nice...

Identifying HOST and TARGET side on SFF-8087 - SATA cables

After buying a second-hand server case, the previous owner was kind enough to donate a decent supply of SFF-8087 cablery.

Recognizing some was easy: the 8087-to-8087 cables are straightforward.
Others have labels, type numbers from Amphenol or Molex, and other searchable info.

But not all have labels, and I found it kind of strange that I would have no way of recognizing a cable simply by looking at it.

What's the trick I'm missing here, people?

I created NFS dataset in UI.

Hello!

New member here.

I'm putting together a brand new FreeNAS build.
The idea is to replace my aging (10-year old) DIY NAS file server (very old Athlon 64 x2 with a couple of HDDs inside).

Usage scenario:
  • Centralized file storage for the home.
    • Music/Photo/Video streaming to the HTPC and other PCs in the house over a home 1Gbps LAN.
  • Centralized backup location for all PCs in the house (Crashplan and/or Windows 10 Backup).
The main...
