Online upgrade from 9.10.2 U6 to 11-STABLE

Disk goes missing when updating to nightly

So I have a weird issue. I have a Dell r710 with 6x5TB Drives with a JBOD config using a h200 HBA. It has 128GB of memory and 2x6 core intel processors.

When using the FreeNAS Stable all 6 disks are presented just fine. When I updated to FreeNAS nightly  the last disk goes MIA. The bios is fine as it still posts the disk without issues. If I flip back to Stable the disk magically returns.

I've attached two files. The image with 6 disks showing is while running FreeNAS-Stable on FreeBSD...

I'm trying to convert our NAS to being fully encrypted and it would seem I'm missing a clue or a step somewhere. To test with, I've got a server that I can blow away the ZFS volume as many times as I choose...

To start with, the server boots and runs off a ZFS mirror (ada0p2/ada1p2) and I'm trying to create an encrypted ZFS volume on da0-da7

If I create a ZFS volume through the web interface, I have "tank" using da0p2 - da7p2.

If I then follow these steps:
zpool offline tank...

one drive dock running slower than the other during burn in tests, bend in cable???

another newbie question :)

I'm about 36 hours into burn in testing, and Drives 4, 5 and 6 (sata3 - sata5) on the right are running (read/writing) about 15 percent slower than drives 1, 2 and 3 (sata0 - sata2) on the left.  I'm running badblocks on all the drives concurrently with TMUX, and the processes were all started in sequntial orders within a few minutes of each other.  

Is this a function of the hardware config or is this an installation problem on my end?  The hardware config...

Hi,

I'm trying to use FreeNAS as a NFS server for our Citrix XenServer 7.1 cluster. Sadly, performance is not optimal, and I'm trying to find out, why.

Hardware for FreeNAS

- SuperMicro 6027R-E1CR12N
- Disks:
  - 8 Seagate Entreprises HDD (4 TB each)
  - 4 Intel S3500 SSD 480 GB, two for ZIL, two for cache
  - 2 Intel 80 GB disks in mirror, for FreeNAS
  - Intel X550-T2 as the 10 Gbps network card
- NetGear 10 Gbps switch between the FreeNAS box and the 3 XenServer hosts

Hello, I am a FreeNAS novice/intermediate user; I am using FreeNAS currently as a hobby while I learn, moving toward becoming a knowledgeable user, at which point I will start using it for mission-critical data.  None of the involved data is mission-critical.  I do not have a pool backup.

And I am dealing with my first degraded pool incident.

My hardware is listed in my signature.  It's currently lousy (non-ECC RAM, etc), but I will improve it as funds allow.

I would like to know i)...

Update from 11 to 11.1 causes VNC display disruption and VM mac address change

I updated to 11.1 from 11 today and experienced the VNC connections both web and client to be garbled and also the mac address changed hence DHCP changed the IP. I am not 100% sure of the mac address change (I couldn't reach the old IP and don't have access to the DHCP server logs) but suspect it from the 'auto generate mac' description when the config for VNC doesn't have one specified, I was expecting it to use the one it chose in 11. The mouse in VNC is an X like old X windows, it's there...

Hello,

Spent last weekend building a Supermicro Atom C3558 freenas 11.0 box.  So my sum total freebsd experience is an UEFI install to a flash drive on the front USB 2.0 port and 3 or 4 boots.  

I have no ip for the web interface.  I just pasted a bunch of my notes below.  Any advise or pointing out an applicable help link would be greatly appreciated.  Assume that I make basic mistakes.

If this is a hardware support problem I surmise that freenas 11.1 is required.  Is installing this RC...

Dataset folder hidden files

I have a media dataset that's connected to multiple plugins that read/write to it such as Sab, Transmission, Plex. About a 3 weeks ago I noticed more than half of my movies in Plex were missing. I navigate to my NFS share of the media file location that Plex points to. When I attempt to add a file from a backup to the media files location, it says the file already exists. It's as if the files are there, but hidden. The only thing I can think of what would have caused this would have been an...

I'm new here, so Hi All!

My name is Alvaro, I'm from Uruguay, and I'm looking to build my first FreeNAS server. I want to play with FreeBSD and ZFS until I'm comfortable enough to trust them with my files.

I'm basically a Linux guy, I've been using Slackware for 16 years, and work daily with Linux VMs in AWS. I used to support applications on AIX and Solaris (I still have the Solaris 10 DVDs Sun used to give away), and I'm a heavy user of ViM (which is what my work Mac is "busy" with, 90%...

Upgraded to 11.1 ... jails upgrade?

Hi all,

So 11.1-RELEASE was pushed today and I upgraded; first thing I did was try out the new GUI, which made me worry because, despite seeing my jails come up, they didn't appear on the Jails list. Further, when I used the old GUI, they were still there, exactly as they were.

Normally I wouldn't complain about things working and being 100% functional (naturally), but my understanding is that Warden is being phased out and all jails are now IOcage. I also was told there would be some kind...

Is the S3 target by Minio license free?

I think the S3 target powered by Minio is absolutely fantastic and I am starting to build S3 cloud storage services with it. I know that Minio has a commercial license for their version but what about the FreeNAS version?

Is there a capacity limit I can use with the Minio S3 target? Is there a commercial fee/license/subscription to use the Minio S3 target in production?

I am hoping to get some replies. Thank you in advance.

Since I will have to rebuild the jails I have (unbound DNS server, Nextcloud), and I want to change my boot drive from a USB 2.0 stick to USB 3.0 stick, would I be better off installing 11.1 fresh from scratch, and starting over, instead of running an update from the gui?

I have 2 pools, one pool is for data (it has 2 sets of mirrored vdevs) one pool is for jails (single m.2 ssd).  If I install freenas 11.1 from scratch, will I be able to import the pools?  I realize I will have to set up...

1) Can the cloud sync capability in 11.1 sync to my personal GDrive, rather than a bucket?
I attempted to follow the instructions to create a local credentials file for the Cloud Sync, but generally failed with PERMISSION_DENIED: errors from the gcloud CLI .... newbie erros.

2) As a newbie, is there a writeup that describes best practice for configuring my FreeNAS box ?  I am a not a sys admin, but I bought a FreeNAS Mini for home, to protect my data. Specifically, I rarely delete files and...

Just updated my backup box.  Getting following message every 2 minutes and 5/6 seconds or so:
[WARN] agent: Check 'service:nas-health' is now warning

Seems potentially linked to an earlier boot time message (?):
[WARN] agent: check "service:nas-health" has the 'script' field, which has been deprecated and replaced with the 'args' field. See https://www.consul.io/docs/agent/checks.

There's an earlier message relating to the Consul agent which is apparently responsible for these...
