Hey guys, been a while since I have had any issues, but now I gots a new one!

I updated to FreeNAS 11.1-RELEASE last year, and since have not seen an update in the update tab.

View attachment 23929

I thought they were just slow to release the minor revision, as sometimes they can be, but I finally went online to see what version we are on, and I see U4 available! Clicking "Check Now" does not yield any better results. As you can see, I am still on RELEASE:...

6 of 15 Drives Detected

I hope this is the correct spot to put this. I'm having issues with FreeNAS 11.1-U4 detecting all of my drives as it will only detect 6 of 15.

I have a Dell R710 with an MD1000 and all 15 slots are filled with 2 TB drives. The MD1000 is connected with an External Mini-SAS HD SFF-8644 to Mini-SAS SFF-8470 Cable via an LSI SAS8300-8e. All 15 drives are detected from the BIOS and are available for boot selection or when using other operating systems such as FreeBSD 11.x or CentOS 7.

Large 36 x 12TB Build

Hey,

I have a build for which I need to ensure rebuilds do not impact the array, I assume I would be best of doing mirrored vdevs rather than RAIDZ2 or RAIDZ3 vdevs to reduce the impact of rebuilds?

The purpose of the array is a backup target, it's worth noting my backup software does perform consistency checks on the data, hence my worry about rebuilds impacting read/write speeds!

Also it worth having a NVMe PCIe slog? I need to ensure data is committed to the array without fail, I want...

Copying Datasets to New Machine With zfs send/recv

I'm not quite grokking the semantics of copying datasets around using zfs send and recv.  Specifically, I think my familiarity with rsync is causing me confusion when thinking about copying datasets.

As I understand it, zfs send and recv operate on snapshots.  This seems simple enough:  Create snapshot of source dataset, zfs send it to a stream (over the network), zfs recv the stream into a destination dataset.  That...

Crashing every ~10-20 minutes

I honestly I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. I've had FreeNAS for years now, since 9.2. I've had occasional issues, but not like this. Since yesterday it started crashing every 10-20 minutes or so. Yesterday I spent at school, so I didn't make any configuration changes or hardware changes. Over the past couple weeks I've made hardware changes. I've swapped some 3tb drives for 6tb and replaces some old 250gb with 3tb, I've also doubled the RAM from 16 to 32GB (using the same make/model...

Can't execute script within jail from freenas shell

So, I am really at a loss. I just upgraded from 11 to 11.1 and am on 11.1U4. A script I had working before and a friend has working on 9.x doesn't seem to work. Weird thing is, it works if I jexec into the jail and run it. Its a simple mirror script, I have it looking at a remote volume and mirror it to a mounted volume within the jail. If I run the script from within the jail it executes without issue. Also, its not the fault of the rsa key itself, I can ssh into the remote host via freenas...

Slow SAS drives Volume, SSD Volume fast

Hi,

I have a FreeNAS-11.1-U4 server, based on a SuperMicro 3U server, 8-core CPU, 128GB RAM, 2x SAS12 controller connected to a SAS12 backplane with 2 SAS-expanders.
I have 6x Kingston DC400 800GB SATA SSD's and 6x Seagate 2.4TB SAS 10K HDD's, both configured as striped mirrors.

Kingston SSD Volume performs 1-1.5 GB/s, which is fine, but Seagate SAS volume performs at 25MB/s, and that is simply too slow.

1 of the Seagate SAS drive can perform up to 270 MB/s alone, so I cannot understand...

Feature request: XMPP Alert Service

I love that there's a framework for Alert Services in FreeNAS, and it seems like it might be extensible. Would it be possible to add an XMPP alerter to the system?

Alternatively, is it common that components like this could be developed and shared from community? If so would be interesting to know what that process looks like for something like this.

2 × 3 TB, 2 × 4 TB disks... How should I arrange my storage?

Hi guys.

I've had the FreeNAS system listed in my signature for a while. I recently purchased two 4 TB 7200 RPM HGST Deskstar NAS drives, in addition to the two 3 TB 5400 RPM WD Red drives already in my system. The latter two are arranged in a single mirrored vdev. How do you guys should I add on the two new drives to maximise storage and redundancy?

Thanks very much.

Howto: migrate data from one pool to a bigger pool

There have been a lot of posts recently about how to move data from one pool to another.  Usually it's because folks want to upgrade to a much larger pool and the drive-by-drive resilvering process will take too long.  I've recently gone through this as well.  Here are the steps that I followed.

This assumes that you have both pools setup and connected to the same system, but the replication steps can be done between two systems and the disks moved after replication (this would apply in the...

Hi all
Just joined after a fair bit of reading. Probably started the same as you looked at a synology system then realised qnap was better but couldn't quite find the hardwear spec i required for sensible investment. Looking to build a nas that can do 4k transcoding needs to be 10 gbe with maybe 40 to 50 Tb. I have started reading up on the hardwear but to honest i am a bit out of my depth, budget not a real issue just one a good future proof system. Any help greatly appreciated

Building a Home FreeNAS box from server parts from work

I work on the admin side with the IT department at our clinic. The IT director will sometimes give out old hardware to people who want it. After telling him I wanted to get a 6+ bay NAS, he suggested a QNAP (which we use at some remote sites). After choking at the high prices for low-end hardware (6 bays with a Celeron J3455 and 4TB RAM for $900), I returned in earnest to FreeNAS and created a forum account. I know have the following hardware, gifted from IT:...

Dear Forum, i want to share my experience about installing a nice Samba extension called full_audit.

Full_Audit permit to log ALL operation on a share, like create file, delete file, change path......

1) Go to Services->CIFS (click)
2) Add those lines in "Auxiliary Parameters" (or something like that, i've in Italian):

AMD vCPU>2 = crash

Hi,

I am running FreeNas 11.1U3 and have 2 Ubuntu 16.04 VMs. One has 1 vCPU, the other has 2 vCPUs. The one with 2 vCPUs keeps crashing every once in a while.
As I have an AMD processor, this lead me to this page with the apparent fix: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D13780
But I don't want to recompile anything, just wanted to ask when this will make it into FreeNas?

Thanks

Jail trouble on 11.0-STABLE

$

I updated my host to the FreeNAS-11-STABLE train (maybe not a good idea?). Now when I create a jail and attempt to build from the portsnap tree, I get complaints like "Ports Collection support for your FreeBSD version has ended, and no ports are guaranteed to build on this system. Please upgrade to a supported release."

When I do a "freebsd-version" inside the jail, it reports "11.0-RELEASE-p1"

When I do it within the host, it reports "11.0-STABLE"

I don't know what to do. Any advice...

This is a how to install Nextcloud 13 with all checks passed on FreeNAS 11.

New in this guide is how to create and iocage jail and it also works with version 11 & 12 of nextcloud

This is a rewrite of the original post https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/how-to-nextcloud-10-w-apache-php-and-mariadb.46111/ with a few added adjustments where needed to make this fully functional.
I know this works as I have re-emulated this 4 times today to insure its accuracy...
