ZFS Compatibility between FreeNAS & Linux

Hi All

I noticed from discussions on this forum that @Arwen is using ZFS on her linux laptop, so I decided to give ZFS on linux a shot for my home desktop PC. So far so good, but what about interoperability with FreeNAS ZFS.

Since ZFS is coming from two development streams (FreeBSD/Linux Debian/Ubuntu) am I likely to run into problems if I want to send/receive ZFS snapshots (for backup/restore)?  Does anyone have experience doing this?  Am I likely to corrupt a pool...

Ombi secure remote access from a domain?

I was looking in to a way to make this happen with a free domain hosting provider. This is the first time I've dealt with web domain hosting and I have some major questions. To get what I think I know out of the way, here's how I envision this happening:
  1. Server PC hosts Ombi jail
  2. NGINX jail takes Ombi and adds SSL
  3. Router does port forwarding for NGINX jail
  4. Cloudflare takes the forwarded port and sends it to a dot.tk domain (since it's free and I've heard it supports SSL)...

Hey guys, brand new here, this is my first post. I am very much a newb with this FreeNAS and honestly not much of an iT guy o begin with. I know about enough to get myself in rouble, which I've done! Here's the situation:

About a year ago I built a FreeNAS out of an old Windows server box at work, had everything up and running and things going smooth. Last week the boot USB failed and would no longer boot. I made no copies of the config file

HI all,

I'm trying to install UrBackup in a fresh Jail, on version  FreeNAS-11.1-U6, and I m using the following instructions at: https://www.urbackup.org/freenasserverinstall.html,

  1. Create a new FreeBSD jail (the default). Map the backup storage into the jail.

I'm running some tests on different configurations and am puzzled by some of the results I am getting.

My setup:
IBM x3650 m3 , 2 x5650 cpu, 128GB ram
LSI 9200-8e
2 x Netapp DS4246 with IOM6 (6 gbps)
8 x 4TB Seagate iron wolf in raidz2 sata
1 x samsung evo 850 120GB in stripe sata
Freenas 11.1-U6

test6.out = 42GB file generated with dd if=/dev/random, file is on th 8x4TB raidz2

/mnt/ssd=ssd stripe of samsung 850 evo 120GB

dd if=./test6.out of=/mnt/ssd/test1.dd bs=1024K

It seems like there are lot of guides here on installing Nextcloud, and a number of people reporting problems with many of them.  So, I figured, why not write another one?  This is inspired by the work of @kjake in his scripts to build jails for Unifi and Crashplan, and largely follows the process that @dureal99d documented...

In 11.2 RC2 the Nextcloud plugin should be fixed...
After installing the Nextcloud (v14) plugin in FreeNAS 11.2 RC2 there is a pop-up with some credentials (without indication what to do with it...) ... after that you end up in the GUI of Nextcloud where you are asked to make a admin-account.

There seems to be made a data directorie:
/usr/local/www/nextcloud/data

Under that you are asked to fill in:
userdatabase
database password
database name
localhost

Should I fill in the data...

Hello everyone,

I'm posting here in hope to get a better understanding of how FreeNAS works especially when it comes to NFS shares and ZFS.

I'm currently hosting a /data folder for an application via an NFS share on a QNAP. Last week we had a disk failure and given the age of the device, I don't trust it to last very long. Over the week-end I migrated the data over an NFS share on our FreeNAS box (9.10.2... but we'll upgrade soon™) and the first thing I did after the transfer...

DS4243 LSI 9300-8e Multipathing

Hello,

i have an DS4243 with two IOM6 modules installed.
The diskshelf is connected to an LSI 9300-8e where i today upgraded the firmware to 16.00.01.00 via DOS.
My second IOM6 module arrived today too but i can't get multipathing up and running.

The camcontrol devlist just shows the 24 disks of the 24 installed in the shelf.

Both IOM6 modules are connected to the LSI 9300-8e.

I also don't have a "View Multipath" button in the Web-GUI

iPerf and DD tests

I am having a bit of hard time understanding the different between both. As far as I know, iPerf will test the total throughput of the network while dd will test write/read performance. I am mainly interested in knowing the performance of my FreeNAS host while serving SMB/NFS shares and research has led me to these tools.

Hello

I recently had an issue with my file server, the power supply broke. When I replaced and rebooted FreeNAS the auto import failed on the last step (3/3) with the comment "You already have a volume with same name" but I cannot see any volumes. I've been looking around in the forum but have not found anything on this problem. I could really use some help so I do not break anything while investigating this failure. What are the first steps I should do to find out if it is a broken disk?...

Please give me some hints

I run myfreeNAS webGUI off of macOS.

I setup a dataset for media storage with Windows permissions such that
I could make it into an authenticated CIFS/SMB share for easy drag/drop.

Code:
/mnt/POOL/media/
Permissions: Windows
User: root
Group: public


How do I modify specific permissions without having Windows available
to provide the Windows permissions GUI?

installing kiconvtool

I want to mount smb shares inside the jails. However, mount_smbfs requires root privileges to run filename encoding conversion. I need UTF-8 encoding support. kiconvtool loads specific charset tables into kernel.

I found that kiconvtool is listed in the iocages ports but I cannot find it in the base pkg repository.

How do I install it?

JSON Service Account Key What is it?

JSON Service Account Key field under in "Add Cloud Credential" for Google Cloud Storage, what is this asking for? The guide mentions a "Browse" button but I see nothing. Many fields in my JSON file. It doesn't like any of them when entered "This field is required." What do I need to enter here? I feel like a moron for asking but I'm new to this aspect.

We have a dell 620 we would like to use to support our lab machines. It currently had a H710 controller.  I don't think this can be flashed but can we replace it with another card?  If so what cards would you recommend?

I’ve followed this tutorial and had next cloud working locally until somewhere around the heading “Let’s Cache”. Now when I try and access the page locally I get this error:
