mount encrypted volume form within a Linux-client

Hello

is it possible to mount encrypted volumes from within a Linux-client from the command line/cli?
If not, are there other approaches (if the communication is encrypted as well, much the better) ?

Hi !

I have lots of jails set up for my uses that i'd like to transfer to a newly bought SSD from my HDD pool.
I've found several posts talking about changing the iocage dataset location doing a reset, but :
nowhere i read touches upon how to effectively transfer an active jail dataset without having to remake every one of them.

What i already did :
- copy the whole dataset to a save folder
- prepared the new pool

So, my questions are :
- is there an other way than doing an "iocage clean...

Replacing drive in mirror with smaller one

I have a boot zfspool with 3 mirrored devices. 2 16GB usb drives and one old 128GB SSD.

Unfortunately the SSD just died so I wanted to replace it with another 16GB USB drive (the exact same type of the other already mirrored 2)
But when I try to replace it (in the WebGUI) I get an error that the drive is too small.
Do I need a drive wich is 128GB big? Even if the others are only 16GB?

If so, can I remove the (already removed) SSD from the pool for good and add another 16GB usb mirror?...

Bom dia.
Sou novo no FreeNAS mais o pouco tempo que tenho passado com ele tenho me agradado muito.
No momento eu preciso montar um servidor de arquivo usando o samba.
Porém tenho um HD 2 TB (NTFS) mais pelo o que eu observei parece que não é possível montar um HD sem formatar ele primeiro.

FreeNAS não trabalha com NTFS? Seria possível montar esse HD (C/ Dados já existente) sem precisar formatar?

iPerf and DD tests

I am having a bit of hard time understanding the different between both. As far as I know, iPerf will test the total throughput of the network while dd will test write/read performance. I am mainly interested in knowing the performance of my FreeNAS host while serving SMB/NFS shares and research has led me to these tools.

My iPerf results:

I am upgrading my production pool.  1 of the 2 6-drive Z2 vDevs will go from 4TB to 6TB drives.  This will also free up some 4TB drives that I can move into my backup pool.

My backup pool is a single vDev 12 disk Z2 vDev.  It is a mix of 3TB and 4TB drives.  I will not have enough 4TB drives to complete the backup pool upgrade.  I am considering, once my production pool is resilvered and running stable, is to destroy and re-configure my backup pool (pucker factor while waiting for...

Hi all Im new to freenas, Have recently tried transitioning my quick and easy warden plugins to iocage manual jails. I followed these guides to setup openvpn:

Help getting UFS pool back in freenas 11

So I recently upgraded from 9.3 to 11 and my old pool with a single UFS drive isn't loading. I saw UFS is pretty much gone now in freenas 11. Ok no problem, Its just a single backup disk anyway. However I've spent the last 5 hours trying to import the single disk back as a single drive ZFS but I keep getting these errors every time I try to create a new pool with it.

Can't download plugins

So after some time I eventually fixed the nas and restored everything from pools. But when I try to install plugins it just shows me

[EFAULT] Exception: CallError:[EFAULT] pkg error: - pkg-static: /var/db/pkg permissions (0775) too lax Please check your network occured, destroyed plex.

I've tried disabling all my DNS's removing old folders where old plugins still were inside. There is an option to put in the IPv4 interface on my own but since I'm quite new to FreeNAS software I don't want...

FreeNAS was running fine, but I had to shut down the server because a Thanksgiving guest was complaining about the noise (seriously regret this right now). I shut it down via the command in the GUI. I started it back up moments ago and none of my Windows shares remounted in Windows. So I logged into the server without issue and saw that all of my datasets are gone (jesse, kristen, media, shared). It created a home folder called "jesse" under my parent dataset "belle" when I tried to re-mount...

All my datasets are gone after reboot. I'm in a panic.

I am trying to setup rsync between my FreeNAS machine and a backup server I purchased, which is a TerraMaster F4-220.  It is basically a knock off of a QNAP/Synology machine, only much crappier (and cheap at $189 on Newegg Flash).  It has an rsync daemon, but it can only be configured with a username and password.  There are very few configuration options in the interface and you have no option but use credentials.  I...

Hello

I recently had an issue with my file server, the power supply broke. When I replaced and rebooted FreeNAS the auto import failed on the last step (3/3) with the comment "You already have a volume with same name" but I cannot see any volumes. I've been looking around in the forum but have not found anything on this problem. I could really use some help so I do not break anything while investigating this failure. What are the first steps I should do to find out if it is a broken disk?...

Please give me some hints

Hi I am having 2 FN systems connected in the LAN. I set up the replication task to have a proper backup.
So far it is working good, as I can see it. But it seems to be very slow. Networking graph shows me avg. 184M

Push Freenas 11.1-U5; 64 gb ram; Raid z2 8x 3tb; 8 core @ 3ghz
Pull Freenas 11.1-U6; 16 gb ram; stripe 3x 4tb; 4 core @ 2.3 ghz

CPU performance monitor on the pull system shows me ~50%

while the replication is ongoing I changed cipher to fast, but it seems to have no effect. is...

It seems like there are lot of guides here on installing Nextcloud, and a number of people reporting problems with many of them.  So, I figured, why not write another one?  This is inspired by the work of @kjake in his scripts to build jails for Unifi and Crashplan, and largely follows the process that @dureal99d documented...

We have a dell 620 we would like to use to support our lab machines. It currently had a H710 controller.  I don't think this can be flashed but can we replace it with another card?  If so what cards would you recommend?
