Running Grafana in a Jail

Hi folks!

I've tried installing grafana in a jail to move it from my raspi. I used pkg install grafana4 to installed it, checked the config located at /usr/local/etc/grafana.conf and my install is at /usr/local/bin. When I try to start it I just keep getting this;
Code:
root@Grafana:/usr/local/bin # grafana-server
Grafana-server Init Failed: Could not find config defaults, make sure homepath command line parameter is set or working directory is homepath...

Configure ESXi to pass-through the X10SL7-F motherboard SATA controller

By default, VMware ESXi 6.0 does not make the X10SL7-F motherboard's SATA controller available for VT-d passthrough. Because who in their right mind would do such a thing?  :)

Well... I do! I've never used the motherboard's SATA controller; I boot from a Dell H200 HBA. Recently I wanted to add a single large disk to serve as a replication target for backup purposes. The motherboard's built-in LSI 2308 HBA is already fully populated. So my only option for giving FreeNAS access to the...

Benefits of i3 vs Pentium? Core count/threads question.

Trying to decide what ECC-capable CPU to get.  My budget is zero, so everything I pick is over budget, but I need a CPU.

Comparing a Pentium and an i3 of the same architecture, benchmark-wise they perform similarly in single threaded and similarly in total performance, even though the Pentium is 2(2) core(thread) vs i3 2(4).  Does FreeNAS, or more importantly the ZFS volume make good use of the extra cores?

Here's my usage scenario:
A 64TB ZFS2, encrypted.  One user, me, archiving my data...

Pool Question - Wide Z3 for Backups

I am upgrading my production pool.  1 of the 2 6-drive Z2 vDevs will go from 4TB to 6TB drives.  This will also free up some 4TB drives that I can move into my backup pool.

My backup pool is a single vDev 12 disk Z2 vDev.  It is a mix of 3TB and 4TB drives.  I will not have enough 4TB drives to complete the backup pool upgrade.  I am considering, once my production pool is resilvered and running stable, is to destroy and re-configure my backup pool (pucker factor while waiting for...

I wanted to share my scripts because I think I'm not the only one who wants to monitor his FreeNAS server a bit more closely and in a more personalized way than the automatic nightly emails would do.

Please note that you're the only one responsible of what you do in the CLI so don't blame me if you mess up your system.

This post is segmented like this:
  • SMART report email
  • ZPool report email
  • UPS report email
  • Display CPU and HDD temperatures
  • Display drives identification...

raidz2 keeps crashing during resilver process

I have a raidz2 in FreeNAS 11.1 that has been running great for quite a while but I noticed the other day one of my drives was beginning to fail as the Offline_Uncorrectable value began to steadily increase over the past couple days and had gotten to about 9k when my new drive arrived. Mind you, FreeNAS hadn't even recognized the drive as bad at this point, I was just being proactive considering the drive in question had well over 47k power on hours.

So I ordered a new drive, popped it in,...

Help getting UFS pool back in freenas 11

So I recently upgraded from 9.3 to 11 and my old pool with a single UFS drive isn't loading. I saw UFS is pretty much gone now in freenas 11. Ok no problem, Its just a single backup disk anyway. However I've spent the last 5 hours trying to import the single disk back as a single drive ZFS but I keep getting these errors every time I try to create a new pool with it.

Code:
Nov 22 13:45:43 freenas GEOM_ELI: Device mirror/swap1.eli destroyed.

Hello

is it possible to mount encrypted volumes from within a Linux-client from the command line/cli?
If not, are there other approaches (if the communication is encrypted as well, much the better) ?

Thank you!

getting slow speeds over gigabit

I'm in the middle of moving 15 TB of data from my Synology NAS (DS415+) to my FreeNAS server (11.1U6) and I'm getting only about 300 Mbps (steady). I've always gotten lower than expected transfer speeds with FreeNAS, but never troubleshot it because it didn't serve anything crucial until now. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the Synology NAS as I've achieved 110+ Mbps transfer speeds with other 1 Gb devices on the network. Based on the environment below any suggestions on getting closer to...

Hello All:

I have a back up configured on my Windows 10 Pro laptop which pumps data to a folder on a freenas system.

However, I see duplicates of several (not all) files being created. A screen shot is also uploaded.

Can someone guide as to why this is happening and what can be done to stop / prevent this?

Thanks & Regards

Checking for TLER, ERC, etc. support on a drive

One of the problems with consumer-grade hard drives is that most of them will hang in the event that they run into an error, and will internally retry the operation, possibly for a minute or more.  For a desktop PC, where redundancy does not exist, this is the correct course of action, because failure of a sector means loss of the data.

Enterprise class drives typically support the ability to limit the amount of time a drive wastes trying to recover data.  Most of these drives are used in...

Replacing drive in mirror with smaller one

I have a boot zfspool with 3 mirrored devices. 2 16GB usb drives and one old 128GB SSD.

Unfortunately the SSD just died so I wanted to replace it with another 16GB USB drive (the exact same type of the other already mirrored 2)
But when I try to replace it (in the WebGUI) I get an error that the drive is too small.
Do I need a drive wich is 128GB big? Even if the others are only 16GB?

If so, can I remove the (already removed) SSD from the pool for good and add another 16GB usb mirror?...

Ombi in a jail?

Hi *.*

as far as I understood it, it is at the moment not possible to install Ombi v3 on FreeBSD.

So I tried it with v2 (v2.2.1 was the last v2) with this: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/plex-request-or-similar.42187/#post-272728
Only that I pkg locked sqlite3 at first because Apps like Radarr, Sonarr, Lidarr and so on have troubles with it.
Now, that FreeBSD has passed a Mono Version thats works like a charm with Radarr etc. I hoped it'll do for Ombi, too. But it...

Hello everyone, recently i found out about PlexRequest and i rushed checking if there was anyone who has already experimented it on FreeNas. Unfortunately i was only able to find one guide which didn't fit too well with my knowledge :(

I'm looking for something that will allow me to receive movies requests from the other users that i'm sharing Plex's libraries with. I don't need anything too fancy, the main focus would be on movies.

Is there anything that would fit my request that i might...
