How to migrate multiple jails? New system.

$

I am close to finished testing new system, how do I migrate jails?
Bear in mind, the iocage export function will be broken until 11.2 U1 comes out, so I need another way of copying the jails across and creating the entries in the UI.

Can it be done?

Selecting raidz-level and buying new hdds

Hello there,

I'm just rambling here, but maybe someone finds this useful: I just decided on what number of hdds to buy. I have crawled the interwebs searching for the definitive answer to the optimal raidz setup and number of disks I thought I'd share my conclusion, and the whys.

My hardware, and experience so far:
I'm your typical home user searching for a good NAS solution. I need rock solid backup of family photos and "important documents", and I'd like to have my media...

Hi, my name is Sam, and I have finally decided to make a dedicated nas partly due to now having fellow computer nerds as roommates (although different types) and as this is a new field to me, I will likely asking a lot of questions, and hopefully I learn a lot!

Hi,
I got some weird devices where I can't do any modification (https://www.nidek-intl.com/product/ophthaloptom/diagnostic/dia_cornea/al-scan.html and https://www.nidek-intl.com/product/ophthaloptom/diagnostic/dia_cornea/opd-scan3.html)
They can communicate with Freenas if I do some modifications in the /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf
------

> server min protocol = SMB2_02

Hello!
I'm Will, new to FreeNAS, but I've been reading the boards here for a fair bit of time.
I work in the audiovisual post-production industry as a solo operator, and I'm currently planning to make my first storage server build for professional use.

Getting directly involved in talks here will be a great help for me!

I’ve followed this tutorial and had next cloud working locally until somewhere around the heading “Let’s Cache”. Now when I try and access the page locally I get this error:

Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.

The Apache log shows the following:

We have a dell 620 we would like to use to support our lab machines. It currently had a H710 controller.  I don't think this can be flashed but can we replace it with another card?  If so what cards would you recommend?

Josh

Failed boot USB, Cannot access config

Hey guys, brand new here, this is my first post. I am very much a newb with this FreeNAS and honestly not much of an IT guy to begin with. I know about enough to get myself in trouble, which I've done! Here's the situation:

About a year ago I built a FreeNAS out of an old Windows server box at work, had everything up and running and things going smooth. Last week the boot USB failed and would no longer boot. I made no copies of the config file

I've read numerous threads now,...

FreeNAS installer + SanDisk SSD = checksum errors

I think I am seeing a bad interaction specifically between the FreeNAS installer and the SanDisk "SSD Plus 120GB" SSD (a very popular model). Details and hardware specs below. I'd be very interested if anyone here has some insight on what might be going on.

Summary: After installing FreeNAS 11.x on this SSD, a scrub of the "freenas-boot" pool reports many (30-100) checksum errors. But if I fill the SSD with random data and scrub,...

hello I am running win10 ver 1810 pro at home. since this automatic upgrade (NOT) I cannot connect to my 2 NAS via explorer network. I can map the drives but when i try to map the drive a windows security pops up asking for Credentials (user name and password) If i insert the username and password for my nas it will not accept the input as valid and return me to an empty form. The username and password are correct. I tries every suggestion form the internet and my tcp/IP if configured...

Should I buy a new or a used server

When running Plex Live at a remote location with 200 mbps download speed I get pausing of the video intermittently. My server is connected to a 75/75 internet. After checking the Plex Media Server.log file I see that in verbose mode the speed dips to 0.9 frequently. This leads me to think that my problem is my processor Intel i3-4130T can't keep up with the transcoding. So I'm considering making a more powerful server.

Would like to stream Plex live to 1 or 2 remote location, watch 4...

getting slow speeds over gigabit

I'm in the middle of moving 15 TB of data from my Synology NAS (DS415+) to my FreeNAS server (11.1U6) and I'm getting only about 300 Mbps (steady). I've always gotten lower than expected transfer speeds with FreeNAS, but never troubleshot it because it didn't serve anything crucial until now. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the Synology NAS as I've achieved 110+ Mbps transfer speeds with other 1 Gb devices on the network. Based on the environment below any suggestions on getting closer to...

Hi I am having 2 FN systems connected in the LAN. I set up the replication task to have a proper backup.
So far it is working good, as I can see it. But it seems to be very slow. Networking graph shows me avg. 184M

Push Freenas 11.1-U5; 64 gb ram; Raid z2 8x 3tb; 8 core @ 3ghz
Pull Freenas 11.1-U6; 16 gb ram; stripe 3x 4tb; 4 core @ 2.3 ghz

CPU performance monitor on the pull system shows me ~50%

while the replication is ongoing I changed cipher to fast, but it seems to have no effect. is...

WD Easystore 8 TB WD80EMAZ

So I picked up quite a few WD Easystore drives and they have all turned out to be WD80EMAZ white drives. There were a great price at 140 (150 today). I can't get any info on these drives (not even from WD themselves). The only 8TB drives WD sells are red, purple and gold. These drives have 256MB cache and 5400 rpm so they seem to be exactly like the reds. Have TLER enabled etc and same firmware as the RED's. I guess my question is how safe do people think these are? I currently have 6 3tb...

Any suggestions on reverse proxy

Good evening folks. I'm looking for a bit of advice on on a problem that's been bugging me for a while. I have a nextcloud server (running on apache as a VM with SSL running via lets-encrypt) and OnlyOffice document server running on a separate VM with a self-signed certificate and after a bit of tweaking I managed to get them to work together. Both work great on the LAN however I would like to get both accessible externally.

I was thinking about setting up a reverse proxy so that I can...

OK. So I wanna build an offiste PC with FreeNAS. Thing is, I have this old PC at home collecting dust, and I'd like to use it. I'd like to know if anyone can tell me if this config will work.

Here's my setup (ideally):

Acer Aspire X1200
AMD Athlon64x2 (AM2 socket)
3Gb DDR2-800 RAM (would be upgraded to 4GB, which is the max)
Nvidia GeForce 8200 chipset
1x PCI express x16 port and 1x PCI express x1 expansion ports
SATA 6Gb/s 320Gb HD
USB 2.0 ports only (would require a...
